Have you ever been dress coded? I would fight someone if they told me to go home because I was in crocs.. ooofta

March Bonus Story #1 -- Video

As a business school student, crocs are never ever considered smart casual. But that doesn’t mean they couldn’t have just let her in or at least been nicer about it. And coworkers expecting her to come all the way back -to an optional work event- is an unrealistic expectation. It doesn’t sound like this is a good workplace culture fit.

On hats, in the UK it is generally considered rude to wear a hat indoors but this is definitely an old fashioned thing for the most part but there would be places where any kind of hat would be expected to be removed indoors. I kbow this was LA but to force it to be coat checked though is definitely a power move. I'd have gone elsewhere, somewhere I felt more welcomed just as I was.

Coworkers: “This isn’t about you” Also coworkers: *making it a big deal YOU weren’t there* Like as OP I’d be like, okay exactly tho, it wasn’t about me so why do you care so strongly that I didn’t come back and stayed home? Also I probably wouldn’t be much fun due to feeling embarrassed and anxious

unrelated to the story but you should try and have jake shane from passthatpuss on you would LOVE him 😭

My high school had a dress code/uniforms that included outerwear. For my 15th birthday I went to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando and purchased a robe that I wore to school when I got back. The head of the upper school loved it 😂 opposite of being dress coded story lol

Hats are the worst dress code! My stepfather deals with hair loss and was wearing a hat to dinner and they refused him service unless he took it off, he was so embarrassed that he went to the casino to gamble and told the rest of the family to just eat there without him. I felt so bad they made him feel that way

I'm sooooooooo sorry but where does a button down shirt and a skirt pair w crocs? "Smart casual" with coworkers for a work event and shoe choice was crocs? The overall vote was asshole on the story btw. There's a time and place for any attire but I'd said crocs to any restaurant beside fast food or chain is a nah. Also the hostess was just enforcing a policy; I'm sure w her pay grade she wouldn't have cared either way. Businesses have policies and they can enforce as they please. Unfortunately OP broke a policy but instead of being like "you right let me change," they took it extremely personally and spent the night home when they were wanted by the coworkers to be part of a celebration. It really wasn't a big issue but OP made it into one.

I also hate dress codes and being dress coded. That said, don’t go anywhere nice in Europe or they very literally will refuse you no matter what happens or who you are.

Also dress codes often focus on things that are found in black or brown communities! Like their definition of “fancy” is white🙄

Definitely not, I actually did a very similar thing. I was at a formal party, and my heels started to give me blisters. So I took it off and wore my crocs instead. No one really cared though. I don’t understand how sneakers are appropriate, but crocs aren’t. I would’ve also just stayed home.

My dress code story (and don’t judge my style choices, it was early 2000s and middle school 😂) - I wore a blue Jean skirt with black leggings underneath cause it was fall (and again early 2000s middle school). Apparently my skirt was too short still, even though I had leggings on underneath. So they made me switch to a literal white lab coat that was technically SHORTER than my skirt but was apparently “more dress code appropriate” Thankfully I had my Limited Too hoodie to wear over the top part, so it just looked like I was wearing a cute white skirt and literally no one could tell it was actually a lab coat 😂

I was dress coded when I went on a vacation with my bf to Cuba, the dining halls you had to be wearing something that would cover your body, so shorts and a shirt or a cover up. Couldn’t just walk through with a bathing suit on. Well I was leaving the dinning hall and I had a cover up on I was like 3 steps from the door and some lady stopped me and took both side of my cover up and closed it and told me I couldn’t walk around like that in here.. like excuse me I was leaving I’ve been in here for the past hour and no one said anything until I was leaving.. ridiculous

I was dressed coded for wearing a shirt that said Bama on it because my teacher was a Georgia fan. It wasn’t even for the school it literally just said Bama on it and they made me change shirts. But I also hate crocs so….
