Crow and Pelican falsetobers + timelapse

Sorry I didn't post yesterday's painting here! From now on I will post them here first, about 15 minutes before everywhere else.

The time-lapse spans about 2-and-a-half hours that it took me to paint it. All totalled, I think it took me about 4 hours. If you really pay close attention right near the end you may see a familiar paw.

And here is yesterday's Brown Pelican:

This one was very much final-scene-in-Jurassic-Park inspired.

Aw, thanks you guys! Fingers crossed this leads to some crow friends! ☺️🤞

I don't think I've ever seen a crow not eat ANYTHING really. But I think it helps to have a food item that makes noise. That's why I like the peanuts because when they hit the ground it gets their attention. You could try cracked corn or dog or cat food, which is especially helpful if you have it on hand. Also, keep in mind whatever you feed them, if you carry it with you for a bit (I used to go to and from work with peanuts in my bag) your pockets or bag will kinda smell like it, so maybe pick something not super aromatic. If you're doing it in your yard or a close area it's easier to pick and choose, any kitchen scraps would do. They like meat a lot. I was watching two crows eat something wildly disgusting earlier that I am going to spare you from knowing about, so I assure you, probably anything you want to try to feed them they'll take. :)

I've heard they're really into eggs!

As someone who's also interested in befriending some crows, are there alternative snack options for the crows? I'm sort of... deathly allergic to peanuts is all... :P

Ashley N

You need only bring the peanuts, it's up to the crows to decide if you're worthy. After a few months I had them waiting for my bus in the morning. I was well trained. Ha! Here's a fair bit of a crowd from one day: https://photos.app.goo.gl/iykdRw727m7KsHZCA

Haha, I often say "almost done" in my head or out loud. Once I really am done, I know it.

!!! I want to open a C.A.W. chapter in Guelph! Is there a rigorous application process or does it just require having a bag of peanuts on hand?

False Knees

They've got range, that's for sure

I can't tell you how much I love the time lapses! I mark the point at which I think you must be finished--at least three times! The amount of detail is amazing. I tell my son (who introduced me to your work) that it's like the songs he creates that have 72 tracks. Every little touch matters so much!

I have a project I refer to as "crow alliance work" aka C.A.W., because I think I'm hilarious and it's just me feeding unsalted peanuts to crows trying to bribe them to be my pals and this one tooootally reminds me of that because sometimes it's just tossing up a handful of peanuts and watching them all drunkenly stumble all over trying to load as many in their mouth as they can because heaven forbid they have to share. It's great and this is great. My favorite bit is the ruffled feathers on the front. I mean there are lots of good bits, posture, intense eyes, sulky beak, but it's an extra nice detail. Also, the pelican is perfect they still seem like made up birds to me.

your ravens are my faves...their expressions are always a mix of 'frat boy idiocity' and 'wise old man' and I love it so much.

The apps not great!

False Knees

Oooh! The gif doesn't work in the app for me. I'm using the Patreon app instead of the website, but on the website it does work.

David

Thank you! I'm not sure why I did the background last here. Haha. I usually do it first.

False Knees

Is it not loading David? It should appear right below the first image. I had trouble making the gif I made the other day work on my phone...

False Knees

I see you talk about a time lapse... Where can we see it? 👀

David

Oh, you do the background last? You don’t usually see that, if it were me I’d almost certainly mess up the subject. I like seeing the little strokes to the side to get the right amount of ink on the paper. Such beautiful layering, thank you for sharing your process!
