Hourly Comic Day(s)

This past weekend, it was February 1st. Like every year, this meant that it was Hourly Comic Day! And like every year, Josh had forgotten about it until the morning of. Haha!

He hasn't always followed it (it can be hard to clear out a whole day to just improv-draw when you haven't planned to), but this year he did, and I'm so glad! I love seeing these little snapshots of our life, seeing the moments he picks and how he translates them into his unique art style. Most of all, I love seeing him challenge himself into a pace and a style he isn't usually practicing. His usual comics take several hours (if not days) of work, between finding the right dialogue, finding the right reference pictures for the story he wants to tell, etc... and of course drawing the whole thing. So I find it very exciting to see what he'll do when he has to constrain himself to draw fast. Plus it's fun to see how he draws people and cats. Ok, I'll stop gushing and just let you read them!

To give you a bit more context: we had great snow this weekend, and Josh was busy drawing all day, so I started making a giant snow groundhog (for Groundhog Day). But I got tired after making the structure (also, have you tried sculpting a groundhog without a reference picture? It's hard!), so I asked Josh for help to make the details. Since he was replacing me, he asked if I wanted to replace him for a comic! So I did and I made the spidey one! I'm so honoured to be featured, haha.

In the end it took him 3 whole days to finish all the comics but he was super happy with the result. I hope you like them too! And if you want to see the ones he made in previous years, head on over here: 2014, 2018. His style has changed quite a bit! But I find his humour and cadence has stayed very similar :)
