Sneak peek on future posters
Added 2019-07-01 15:11:20 +0000 UTCGood morning False Knees Fans!
This week I'd like to highlight a side project Josh has been working on for several weeks. He really likes to spend a long time hand-painting very detailed pictures of birds, which he offers in his store as medium-sized and poster-sized prints So far he has painted a crow, a seagull and a bluebird, and during his shows he was also selling a beautiful poster of a grackle.
The latest additions he's working on are paintings of a robin and a red-winged blackbird, which should make their appearance in his store in a few weeks once he finishes them, digitises them and adds a vibrant background that compliment the bird! The grackle will be available online as well, at the same time (I've attached a picture of the finished poster below). I hope you enjoy pictures of his work in progress:

The robin and red-winged blackbird are currently around 7x8". He works with gouache, starts with the bottom layer and slowly and progressively layers his recognisable little strokes of paintbrush to form the bird's plumage and give it depth. It takes a LONG time - I can't wait to see them when they're finished!
I hope you're enjoying these updates as much as I enjoy making them. Happy Canada Day everyone!

Thank you so much, Adam! That’s so kind of you to say :) also very cool fact about the crows, I didn’t know that. Joshua indeed almost always paints birds of southern Ontario in his comics. But sometimes when we travel somewhere new he’ll draw those birds in his sketchbooks. I’ll make sure to scan some. Hopefully one day we can visit Australia! The Australian magpie is so beautiful, what a beak!!

Because if it's based on the quality of the bird I'd love to point Josh in the direction of the Australian Magpie. ( their call is the best!! ) The Wedge-tail might be the most famous Australian bird but my fav. is taken. Crows all over the world, by the way, originate from Australia! Or rather, Australia back when all the continents were joined. Anyway, I'm a huge fan, keep up the wonderful work, thank you so much Mélodie for allowing us an insight to all of our favourite comics!
