2024-12-02 01:21:46 +0000 UTCI can generally take or leave Ekko/Powder, I’m not gung ho for or against it, but I think the idea of them being childhood sweethearts makes a lot more thematic sense when one has the context of the animated music video for Enemy (you can find it on YouTube, it released during s1), which shows a LOT more of Vi and Powder and Ekko as kids— there’s segments in that video that shows the two of them playing together and tearing up the town together, which— while alas not explored much in the actual show— gives credence to the idea that there could be a universe where they are an item. Is the subplot with them in this episode necessarily connected to the main story? Not really, I agree with you there, but from a writer’s perspective what I do think it serves the purpose of is adding a bit more depth to Ekko’s relationships with other characters, something which we haven’t gotten to see Too much of with him, at least as compared to others like Vi or Jinx. But again, I’m certainly not mad you didn’t connect with it, that’s an entirely fair takeaway too XD Sometimes story elements click for us, sometimes they don’t and we’re like “eh,” and that’s okay. O u g h seeing the oofies Jayce went through hurt me, though. I’m pretty sure that the leg he broke was the same leg that Viktor has particular weakness with, too? So with that in mind, I think there’s a sense of deepened understanding and perspective he may have gained here, what with what his former partner had to deal with on a day to day basis. I’m such a sucker for alternate timeline explorations, so this episode really hit for me. The super harsh juxtaposition between the “good end” and the “bad end” was so well done.
