Steven Universe | S3 | Ep 24-28

The LAST of season 3 is here! For some reason, it feels like we've been on this season for ages, but it was well worth it. The cap off to the season was great and has me eagerly awaiting S4! Hope y'all enjoy the reactions! :)

Episodes 24-28

Steven Universe | S3 | Ep 24-28

Random non-Steven Universe-specific but fun (to me) info nonetheless: You likely have actually consumed bismuth and not known it! It's an ingredient in Pepto Bismol. It's what gives it the slight metallic taste, if you've ever noticed it around the other flavors. I'm not good on the science of why, but the crystal itself forms into a square prism naturally, and you can actually make bismuth crystals yourself at home by melting one down and watching it reform back into that shape as it cools. Tons of how-tos of it on youtube. Hi, don't mind me, I really like collecting shiny rocks and I'm loving that you're watching one of my favorite shows!

The visuals of that scene were so good - I loved them taking the SU art style and applying it to just deep space. Makes me want to make it my background haha We need more Lion tbh. He's always in good episodes! Oooh, 2 admitters of seeing the cringey outro! Thanks for watching all the way through! :)

Beta- Your laughter at Lapis's "No :)" response to Peridot asking her to fly them into the barn made me smile, ahah. It's so nice to get to catch up with the two of them, and see how they've been settling in as roomies. Even though they're two very different people, it seems they're making it work, ahah. I think it's very sweet that Peridot has also been added to the list (a short list, otherwise only including Steven) of people who can make Lapis smile. She's still quite aloof and traumatized but she's trying her best. Gosh, and the ending of this one... when these episodes originally aired, they were airing one by one every week day for a straight month. (Ah, the "Summer of Steven"... what nostalgic times.) I was practically chewing at the bars of my cage waiting until the next day for the conclusion of this storyline, lmaooo. _ Earthlings- SMOKY SMOKY SMOKY :D Smoky Quartz my absolute BELOVED. Yes, their third arm is so bizarre, ahah- it's a sort of feature that is weird seen entirely in isolation from how they fight, but once that yo-yo comes out, it makes perfect sense as an extra hand they can use to pivot the string. Seeing Steven fuse with a full Gem for the first time is such a hype moment- I feel like by this point on my first watch, I almost forgot about the possibility, since I'd gotten so used to seeing him fuse with only Connie. The tragic thing about this one for me is that there are SO many layers to unravel here with Jasper, even with her being an antagonist to the rest of the group. She was the one perfectly formed Gem in a second rate kindergarten on a failed colony, but like... from some of her commentary to the corrupted Gems, and to Steven later on in the episode, I genuinely get the impression that she loathes herself because of where she came from- that she feels a deep, DEEP shame, and is compensating for that by her macho behavior and personal war against Rose, the one she blames for ruining this colony. "You suffer because it's what you DESERVE. We all only get what we deserve..." And when Steven makes a genuine effort to try and heal her, she violently rejects it. I think she does this because a part of her WANTS to suffer. Her army has scattered, she lost to yet another fusion, nobody ever wants to fuse with HER, she is at her absolute bottom point here. She chooses to suffer because she too feels that it's what she deserves, as price for her failure. And I think Amethyst recognizes that, too- recognizes the commonalities they have, in the way they both struggle with self hatred- when she knelt down to bubble Jasper's gem, she said "Come 'ere, sis," which I thought was really bittersweet, hhh.

Bismuth- Oh I have a lot to gush on about this episode. First off, an answer to one of your quick questions- the little silly interlude before they go to the forge and also later in the ep were special little break animations for when they went to commercial break. With normal airings, they went to break in between each episode, but since this one was double length it had two commercial breaks in the middle. "Well, it'll be really funny if she does it a third time." And then nobody laughed when Bismuth said her joke a third time. :E Also shout out to my favorite frame of SU- the split second Bismuth was accidentally animated without pants when she catches Pearl in their spar XD I genuinely love the way they kinda... completely go against my initial predictions when Steven suggests some other Crystal Gem bonding activities for Bismuth to try. When I saw the tennis match and how violently she hit the shuttlecock, I originally assumed the writers would go the route of "Bismuth can't do anything without Violence" or whatever, but nah. The next few sequences are just her chilling out on the floor playing cards and baking a pizza. And then, of course, her really sweet pep talk to Steven. This makes the reveal of her plan to win the war hit so much harder for me, because it's not that she's a Bad Person, or incapable of kindness, it's that she's a Gem living in the midst of a horrid conflict who is desperate to defend those she loves in whatever way possible. (That way... of course... conflicting with Rose's own ethos at the time.) The last thing I wanna say on this ep is that Steven... oh, honey. I feel really bad for him during that fight, because Bismuth genuinely believed he was Rose (and thus a full ass Gem) at that time, and thus she was striking to either poof or shatter. But of course, Steven is soft and squishy :( I believe literally any of those strikes could've seriously harmed him, had they hit. Scary stuff. No wonder the kid was exhausted, he was outright fighting to survive here. And finally- god, your little jerk-back and stunned facial reaction when Steven had to defend himself with Rose's sword was *chef's kiss.* This. THIS is why I watch blind reactions. Absolutely was like watching it for the first time again, seeing that. This is one of my favorite shock moments in the whole show, because it's something you absolutely DON'T expect to see from Steven, to actually poof a conscious, uncorrupted Gem at point blank. This comment is long LMAO I will chatter about other eps in a response to this one ahah.

Yeah this batch was great!! I think I was 15 when these episodes came out, and I remember being in complete awe at the visuals of Steven all alone in space in the last episode. That zoom out with all the sounds being muted still gives me goosebumps. (Also this batch has lion in it and I canโ€™t not like a batch/ episode that has lion in it ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿซถ) And yeah I watched till the end โ€แด—ฬˆ
