Steven Universe | S2 Ep 21-22 | S3 Ep 1-3

I had absolutely NO clue we were hitting the end of S2. I thought there was a few more. So...I guess welcome to S3! 🤣 The last two SU uploads had some hiccups, so I worked REALLY hard to ensure this one is correct - hopefully my efforts are not in vain 😅

Once again, another incredible batch. My favorite being seeing "teenage" Steven! Let me know what y'all thought, I'd love to hear it as always! :D

Re: Steven's Birthday- The train comes back around with the concept of Steven's age being entirely dependent on his state of mind! (As in the episode "Too Many Birthdays" in early season one, where he started feeling really old and turned into an old man and almost died.) I imagine here he feels entirely helpless and lost at the idea that he may not age like a typical human alongside Connie and thus turned back into a baby. Awkward lol. _ The episode It Could've Been Great is very special to me- the very first scene I ever saw of SU was the song in this episode with Steven and Peridot, way back in 2016, when it first aired. My choir teacher at the time happened to have seen a clip of this on YouTube recommended, and showed it to the class to boost morale because it was a finales week. (And he liked the message about "working hard is important... but feeling good is important too!") One of my friends let me know what show the clip was from, and that was the beginning for me. <3 Also, woo! Almost caught up!

Ahhh, I totally didn't make that connection. I think probably because Gems being different races didn't really sink in yet. But that makes sense! Unfortunate how it was inspired though :/ I really hope we get the cotton candy look again at some point, but it does make sense that it was more of a in-the-moment sort of thing so they didn't have as much control. It was a super cool mix though! Seeing Yellow Diamond's Pearl was really fun and interesting, I'm super excited to see more Gems that aren't ours. I'm mostly excited to see what an Amethyst is haha Ahhh, ok! Thank you :D Then we must watch those as well! Might even get the Movie on the movie reaction channel!

Ruby and Sapphire, along with LGBT, are also a metaphor for interracial couples. Rebecca Sugar has stated that their discrimination was partially inspired by some racist people being hostile towards her and her husband. While Ruby and Sapphire being a soldier and aristocrat was part of it, Homeworld mostly hates fusion between different kinds of Gems because that creates a whole new being with no predetermined purpose, which breaks the strict caste system. And yeah, people (me included) love that cotton candy look! But the implication there is just that their first spontaneous fusion had a bit more chaotic mix of colors (her clothes were also asymmetrical,) which then blended together over time to represent the fact that they've grown to be more in sync and more controlled. Pearl being considered terrifying is funny, but from the Homeworld Gems' perspective it's already scary that someone who is expected to be extremely passive is doing anything on her own–and then add to that that she's attacking people with swords. Speaking of Pearls, I think they're usually more like how Blue Diamond's Pearl was shown here: just standing there and saying nothing. Yellow Diamond has made her Pearl a secretary to help her with her work, so she gets to talk more and have a bit more attitude under the guise of that role. Quartzes are a variety of big and buff soldier Gems. Jasper is a Quartz. Both her and Amethyst have been shown to do Sonic the Hedgehog-like spin attack, so that's a Quartz thing. Steven Universe: The Movie is after this show and after the movie is a shorter show Steven Universe Future. They're all canon and continue the story.
