Patreon Blackmail Scam

So apparently there's a scam about the hack from a couple of months back. Someone is claiming to have a bunch of information from those who's email addresses and stuff were taken in the hack. According to the guy that runs Patreon, this is a scam and bullshit.

Again, if you want to support me but don't want to use Patreon anymore, Paypal does offer subscriptions. My paypal email address is jakkal@gmail.com

Here's the CEO's message, which you probably got in email:

I learned yesterday evening that some Patreon users have been receiving

a scam email. The sender claims to have the recipient’s SSN,

credit card number and other personal information. I want to assure

everyone that the claims in this email are false, and we are already

working with federal law enforcement. Do not reply to the email—it

is a scam. The tax forms we store are securely encrypted with RSA

2048-bit encryption, and we do not store full credit card numbers.

If you receive this email I suggest you flag it as spam and ignore any

further emails. Do not reply.

Thanks.

Jack Conte, CEO/Co-founder, Patreon

Derivative. The original was clever, but it hardly applies in this medium. And anyone can fact check this one, while the other was confirmed viable -- though unlikely they'd follow through. http://siliconangle.com/blog/2015/09/06/ashley-madison-blackmail-for-bitcoin-scam-reaping-profits-for-extortionists/ Oh hey, that one even says they got almost USD$16k out of it. I figured he'd get more. Means this Patreon scam is likely to yield way less. Hardly worth the effort.
