2024-04-05 14:16:40 +0000 UTCMacKenzie you had me rolling with your grocery store analogy and then sobbing moments later while talking about your Dad (then rolling again at the image of you tackling someone in the audience for tattling on your adoration of him). LOVED today’s episode and breakdown of Cowboy Carter. Re-listened to the album first and then this episode again. Mind. Blown. P.S. I never want to hear HGH from Mackenzie’s lips at the top of the show😢

2024-04-05 13:24:31 +0000 UTCI’m so proud and grateful to “know” MacKenzie Green! The first time I heard Cowboy Carter, I bawled during Blackbird. Thinking of her dad and all the stories we are blessed to know intimately, through her. I’ve been on a deep dive researching black history since we met MacKenzie. She’s been a beautiful addition to the cohost cast!!

2024-04-05 03:23:47 +0000 UTCAs with everything in history it seems everyone has their own interpretation of Blackbird. The Little Rock Nine Civil Rights Movement was undoubtedly a major part of American history but Paul McCartney’s message in the song Blackbird is being misinterpreted. He wrote it for the WOMEN of the LRN and has said multiple times that Blackbird should be interpreted as “Black Girl”. He reiterated his meaning of “Blackbird” when he met two of the women (Thelma Mothershed and Elizabeth Eckford) at his Little Rock show in April of 2016. Blackbird was meant to be interpreted as “black girl”. Any history buff knows the utmost importance of the Little Rock Nine but neglecting to mention the women of whom the song was written about does a huge disservice to them, and their part in black American woman’s history. Paul McCartney also reiterated his sentiment on his Instagram post today stating “When I saw the footage on the television in the early 60’s of the black girls being turned away from school, I found it shocking…. “.

2024-04-04 16:50:21 +0000 UTCMackenzie, the way you love your dad (and mom) is so heartwarming. When Bey’s Blackbiird came out, I told my husband about your connection to the song and your dad and I started crying just trying to explain it to him. I’m so happy you got this song while you help your dad with his health problems 🥹
