No More Heroes 3 Part 8: I Forgot To Post This One

On the last episode of this series i posted, someone asked if i cut the Kimmy Love fight. The answer is no, i did not cut it, i forgot to post it entirely. Since all my game footage is just randomly scattered throughout 9 different fully fucked hard drives with absolutely no organization whatsoever, i somehow skipped over this entire section and just moved on to editing the next chunk of footage without even realizing anything was missing.

So thanks to that guy reminding me, you all get to see my encounter with Kimmy Love, which surely would have been lost to time otherwise. You also get some more of my world famous silly sounds and inane freestyle rapping which would have been even more tragic to lose.

Speaking of rapping the actual boss fight doesn't have that much commentary because i was too busy being enthralled by the brilliant, badass battle-rapping cutscene beforehand. This is probably the best fight in the game so far, both in terms of the aesthetic of the fight itself and the story interactions. But it put an end to my jokes for the night because it was too cool to wanna talk over.

My favorite part of these games has always been Travis himself and how we learn about through his reactions to the bosses he encounters. He's a guy who very deliberately projects a cool but rude ice cold killer persona, but certain characters manage to crack through his facade and reveal his depth. The games are very good at doing this without overdoing it, it never lingers for too long on these moments and leaves them subtle enough that the character comes off as really authentically flawed and human.

Some bosses are so sadistic and perverse that they actually offend Travis, and through that we get a sense of his underlying morals. Others engage him as equals and fellow warriors, allowing us to see the more honorable side to him. Then every once in a while you get the bosses that Travis seems to particularly sympathize with and hates having to kill at all. In these moments we see a guy who's resigned to the violent path he's chosen but doesn't always like it, or himself. He lives for battle but is also trapped by it. The thing he's best at and feels most passionate about also takes a lot of out of him and weighs on him, and that's pretty relatable.

I could write a fucking book about Travis Touchdown and why he's the greatest character in the history of fiction, and one day i will. I just have to beat this game first, which i also forgot to do. I started playing it again the other day and my last save was a year ago to the day. It was actually kind of rad.

That's what happens when you're a grown up. You can be making your way through a cool video game and then all of a sudden life happens and you randomly drop it for a year. This world, man. Killing is easy, living is hard.
