JAAAAAAAMES! Oh wait, wrong movie. Infinity Pool is still Mia Goth's funniest performance, though. Her best performance is definitely Pearl, but man, was MaXXXine a fun time at the movies. My review is below, but first let's talk about all the July happenings for the coolest coven in the universe. Not so much because of me, but because of you 🫵

YouTube 📺
Come hang with me and April tonight! We're going LIVE from a witchy location in Burbank called Vulture Culture Oddities and mostly talking horror movies. Join us on YouTube 😱

I created my first Trip hop song and I'd love to hear your thoughts. Also, the June Vlog includes MaXXXine premiere shenanigans, a Buffy convention, the Fred Again concert, and Ken Napzok's comedy show. And remember my special offer: if you'd like to upgrade tiers, but money sucks, refer a friend to join our coven & you'll be upgraded a level for an entire month! Finally, make sure you don't miss any events or posts from me by going to collections 💌

Coven July Events ☀️ 🍉
It's my birthday month, so I decided to bring back a music challenge. Let's get nerdy and share our favorite music from our favorite movies with the 30 Day Soundtrack Challenge 🍿

Our Listening Party is happening next week after the holiday! What songs make you wanna dance in the sun? Please add 3 of your favorite summer party songs to our playlist 🎧

DJ Bruja is back on July 16 with an 80s party inspired by MaXXXine, so save the date and make me stop talking in the third person 💃

And yes, of course, there will be watchalongs, Q&A hangs, and a Discord Magick Circle that might get even more vulnerable than sharing our kinks 👫

MaXXXine Review
I will not accept a life without Mia Goth I do not deserve. In the age of Charli XCX's Brat, female empowerment is getting hot in a scary way, and MaXXXine brings us a new kind of scream queen, with a much nastier and joyfully messier way to highlight women’s autonomy.

Perhaps some of the criticisms of the movie are right that there's more style than substance. I wish it said more about 1980s Reagan era Neo-puritanism, and it may not be as philosophically deep as Pearl. However, MaXXXine has the coolest, most atmospheric cinematography in the entire trilogy. It's full of Universal Studios backlot goodies, sweet synth music, neon lights, leather pants, and the best scene in a horror movie involving testicles.

It's also filled with amazing supporting performances to add to the star power of the baby voice that haunts our dreams. Giancarlo Esposito is a perfectly hilarious, trashy entertainment lawyer. Moses Sumney and Halsey are musicians first, yet they shine bright as top-tier actors in the few moments they're given. Lily Collins was perfectly cast in her best role, and Elizabeth Debicki is finally allowed to be tall.

After being bombarded with cheap Ecto Cooler '80s nostalgia for years, MaXXXine is a refreshing take on a moment in time that was enjoyably sleazy and sexy, before the annoyingly conservative Motion Picture Association ruined movies and sanitized entertainment. The third act may be less exciting than a hearty debate on Satanic Panic propaganda videos, but at that point, I was still cackling at the beginning credits: a collection of real life news archival footage, including a mother complaining that her daughter listened to Prince's Darling Nikki.

According To The Stars
It's a time to take a breather, so we can raise our consciousness before the fall, as there's talk of the old world order reaching for it's last breath. We're getting a bit of a reality check this summer. There's a dying but strong attempt for control from power structures. Corporations and government institutions are supposed to be going through radical changes, as there's a cumulative anchoring of the world. We're being invited to go with the change even if it feels scary. If we use up our energy positively, there's less energy to manifest negatively.

On a personal level, we're going back to our roots and being reminded of who we really are. The universe is asking us to examine our current behaviors and how they are due to our origins. It's the time of the season for loving ourselves and reprogramming our past upbringing through creativity and gratitude. When we have greater compassion for ourselves, our families, our ancestors, and those around us, that moves us closer to unity consciousness, in order to go through an ego death and come together with all humanity

Thank you sincerely for being here and beating the June gloom with me. Every day I wake up and think about how fucking grateful I am for this community. May your July be warm-hearted, sunny, bright, and hot and sweaty in the bedroom ❤️

"Elizabeth Debicki is finally allowed to be tall." Looking forward to seeing what that means! I feel like she seemed really tall in Widows and Tenet.
