2024 Big Update on The Vegetation
Added 2024-04-05 13:43:26 +0000 UTCHello everyone! Léa here, bringing you a spring update on the vegetation in Paralives. 🌷It’s been a minute since we made a post about all the vegetation, but you’ve seen some sneak peek during our yearly recap for 2023. It’s time to give you a tour of everything we’ve added so far to the game, some are old friends, but the majority haven’t been properly introduced to you yet!
Huge Trees to Help Fill the Neighborhoods
One of my favorite things to create for the game are big fluffy trees. They are so tall that Parafolks look minuscule next to them. They are perfect to create shades and dimensions in gardens 🌳
From left to right: maple tree, hornbeam, birch, willow, and poplar. Notice Maggie under the willow tree?
From left to right: white spruce, norway spruce, Siberian fir, bamboo, royal palm and maritime pine.
Small Trees Perfect for Backyards and Sidewalks
Not every tree should be 10 meters tall, so we added smaller species and younger trees to have more variations and give you a wider range of options 🌿
From left to right: sakura, rowan, japanese maple, european fan palm, greek juniper and cedar.
From left to right: apple tree, gingko, and four variations of trimmed yew trees.
Let’s Talk Bushes!
With or without flowers, bushes are heavily used in every one of our builds so far. Chloé and I love to improve our yards with them. They are great to fill up empty spaces and make a garden look cohesive and well thought out.
From left to right: hedges, simple bush, halo dogwood, heavenly bamboo, aucuba, blue oats, aloe vera, plantain lily hosta, and boston vines.

From left to right: barberry, hydrangea, lavender, hibiscus, yucca, hosta king size, roses, climbing roses, and oleander.
Flowers in Spring, it Really Makes Sense If You Think About It
Flowers were a non negotiable, we wanted a variety of shapes, colors and sizes to be able to create interesting compositions whenever we need to!
From left to right: dahlias, narcissus, sunflowers, carnations, calla lilies, daisies, lilies, and tulips.
From left to right: geraniums, twins, lilies of the valley, wild orchids, black eyed susans, poppies, cyclamens, and hyacinths.
I created this scene to showcase how versatile our plants can be:
A small garden, lush and bushy, full of flowers and colors!
Don’t Have a Garden? Don’t Worry, We Have Plenty of Houseplants!
You’ve seen them many times in our videos, Chloé and I love to use them when we build, here is a lineup of all our interior plants so far.
All of our houseplants in what looks like a plant shop, very quickly put together (please note that this is not really a shop from the game; I just thought it would be a cute little scene!)
That’s it for today everyone, I hope you liked this recap! Plants and trees are a big part of what makes a town and house feel lived in. It was a big priority to add as many as we could with as much variety as possible in order to help you create unique scenes in Paralives.
A big lineup of everything showcased in this post!
Are we missing your favorite plant? Feel free to tell us in the comments!
Have a beautiful sunny day 🌞
Léa 🐶

2024-06-21 11:50:07 +0000 UTCwill the plants require upkeep, or are they static decorative objects? also is the sakura in a permanent state of bloom?

2024-05-25 08:26:53 +0000 UTCcould you make a pretty magnolia tree pretty please? i have 2 big ones in front of my house and would love to recreate it

2024-04-20 08:06:07 +0000 UTCAny plans to add lilac bushes to the game? They're my favorite :)
Amy Joscelyn
2024-04-17 15:15:14 +0000 UTCMy thought too, to be able to change the plant color. Especially for blooms like roses, tulips, and hyacinths that come in a range of colors.

2024-04-17 15:14:55 +0000 UTCIt most commonly refers to the Japanese cherry specifically
Maxx
2024-04-14 13:52:07 +0000 UTCI’d love to see rhododendron, magnolia, and maybe dogwood! Also more tropical plants 🌺 hibiscus, banana, coconut, pineapple, mango, etc ^^;

2024-04-12 16:07:56 +0000 UTCI’d love to see irises, snowdrops and sweet peas!

2024-04-12 14:14:25 +0000 UTCAwesim job guys! I would love to see some Japanese iris, peony bushes and weeping birch trees ( we have lots of those birch here in Norway).

2024-04-12 05:46:17 +0000 UTCis it/will it be possible to pick the flowers and possibly make arrangements and put them in vases?
Sam Grant
2024-04-12 02:39:08 +0000 UTCYep! Sakura is the Japanese word for cherry blossom.

2024-04-11 23:53:47 +0000 UTCWill it be possible to change the colour of plants to any colour, like other elements in the game? I would like to create a garden in Paralives with black roses and tulips.

2024-04-11 10:49:19 +0000 UTCI enjoy the lineup we have so far! Like other people are saying it would be great to have some kind of fern as ferns are peak! I have a few other suggestions too like at least one kind of green flower, I feel those are pretty underrated. Milkweed are wonderful plants that are pretty interesting, not to mention have lovely smelling pretty flowers. Some sort of sticky plant like a cocklebur would be I feel an important addition for more unkempt yards. "Weeds" in general I feel need appreciation.

2024-04-10 15:11:14 +0000 UTCWhen i saw the beautiful bushes i thought of some bushes in our graden, where the little birds are sitting in

2024-04-10 02:31:08 +0000 UTCI don't know if it's possible, but something I would absolutely adore is if plant shape and leaf position was randomized, as in never having the same plant twice, even if they're the same kind. That and tall grass.
ManatoZ
2024-04-07 23:13:43 +0000 UTCLove all of them 💕 Great work! Additionally, I would love a possibility to chose between various pots for the house plants ^^

2024-04-07 14:45:08 +0000 UTCIs a sakura the same thing as a flowering cherry tree?
Derek Warren
2024-04-07 04:02:45 +0000 UTCsome indoor and outdoor ferns are very important to me! I would also love an indoor fiddle leaf fig and more plants from the ficus family. a swiss cheese monstera and philodendron pink princess would also be lovely. I could keep going but I'll stop there 😅

2024-04-06 20:57:12 +0000 UTCEverything is soooo beautiful! Are the flowers can be picked and be put in a vase or given as gifts?
Ilan Raviv
2024-04-06 19:20:42 +0000 UTCMaybe add some sycamores?
Eleanor Swan
2024-04-06 18:58:21 +0000 UTCI was thinking about how cool that would be also!

2024-04-06 12:39:49 +0000 UTCi'd love more lavender options, because that's my favourite, and lilac bushes too
Sehrys
2024-04-06 08:10:05 +0000 UTCAustralian Black Boys are also pretty unique looking and would add some jazz to any more deserty look. :-) In Australia they are often added to minimalist gardens to add sophistication.
Fran Smith
2024-04-06 06:40:33 +0000 UTCMaybe in the future, house plants can need occasional watering. Not every day or even every week, but occasional, just to add a little realism, but not end up a chore. :-)
Fran Smith
2024-04-06 06:37:22 +0000 UTCThese look absolutely awesome! And such wonderful variety too! The only thing I see missing are ferns. My mother had lots of potted ferns growing when I grew up. Maidenhair Ferns, Lady Fern, Ostrich Fern, Autumn Fern for a lovely orangy colour, Staghorn Ferns for hanging pots, Australian Fern Tree for the garden. And many more. I'd love to see some ferns! :-)

2024-04-06 05:52:59 +0000 UTCIt's exciting that we'll be able to edit/add new things outside of lots!

2024-04-06 03:46:21 +0000 UTCAre you guys considering added ''dispersed'' flowers? Like small and spaced out to look like they're just growing there naturally (think dandelions, buttercups or clover flowers). I really like doing ''overgrown'' lots and I feel like this is usually missing!

2024-04-06 00:34:06 +0000 UTCGreat plant variety, looking forward to a quaint cottage garden and burning paras alive next to my aloe vera patch. While not necessary, because a universally recognisable plant selection is definitely enough to play with, it would be cool to see a couple of Australian plants in the future. Gums, melaleuca (tea trees), banksia or wattle; Grevillea, bottle brush, christmas bush or kangaroo paw. Some lesser known but cool stuff might be Lilly pilly, which is a popular pink and green hedge. Or Bunya pine, which like coconuts are a falling hazard, with their head-sized pine cones. I'm super happy with what you guys have right now, looking forward to using them in builds in the future :)
200Hertz
2024-04-06 00:26:37 +0000 UTCOmg all of these look incredible! I think adding some low lying shrubs or ground coverage would also be amazing to fill in some larger gardens too! Something like ground ivy, seaside daisies, lambs meadow, creeping thyme etc. a nice variety of bright flowers and basic greenery for those Paras that might not have such a green thumb

2024-04-06 00:19:29 +0000 UTCI love them!

2024-04-05 21:02:32 +0000 UTCSo happy you've included Willow's. My favourite tree, and tulips, my favourite flower. You are all doing an amazing job, thank you x
Gill Reid
2024-04-05 20:36:10 +0000 UTCThese are all so pretty! I love how your team can put all these different plants into the game, it's really cool. One plant I find interesting that you could add is the Strelitzia, it's really wild-looking and spiky. Thanks for cool plants guys :)

2024-04-05 20:24:41 +0000 UTCI think Magnolias would fit in nicely. Berry bushes are something I personally want to see

2024-04-05 20:16:03 +0000 UTCWould be fun to be able to pick the flowers and have them around the house <3

2024-04-05 18:29:39 +0000 UTCAbsolutely love the variety and the species! As someone who has done a lot of studying of trees specifically this makes me happy C: Happy to see ginkgo here given how popular of a street tree it has become. I will say that typically they are only yellow in autumn (of course seasons will come later). Also just a fun fact: female ginkgos are a bit notorious for having smelly fruit so do with this information as you may
Karina
2024-04-05 18:17:10 +0000 UTCThese look amazing. I’d love some dead plants and trees too for more versatility in the builds. Like imagine a run down front yard filled with junk and dead trees and plants that leads to a run down house where lives a social PARiAh. See what I did there 👀 If some of those trees are deciduous for winter, maybe we could have the option to use those. Just a thought. This is already really amazing and I cannot wait!

2024-04-05 18:13:12 +0000 UTCThey just look absolutely gorgeous!! I am SO excited to build in this game!!
Kaitlyn Jackson
2024-04-05 18:01:34 +0000 UTCI would love to see Passiflora Caerulea at Paralives!💕 Is my favourite flower🌸
Alduh Gaydarof
2024-04-05 17:59:45 +0000 UTCThese look lovely :) I'm just wondering if we can adjust the color of the flowers. For example, if we want white, pink, or yellow roses, can we make that from the default rose bush?
Slippers
2024-04-05 17:53:00 +0000 UTCWhat I'd like to see a little of is spiker plants outside the arid ones. Thorny blackberry/raspberry canes and holly trees. Oregon Grape bushes, which are frequently used for erosion control here, also have similar leaves to holly and they produce clusters of yellow flowers in the spring.
BonaparteBardithion .
2024-04-05 17:21:24 +0000 UTCThis makes me want to be a florist in the game 😍 Such a pretty selection of flowers! Would love to see lavender too~ ^^

2024-04-05 17:00:47 +0000 UTCI adore the huge trees, they’re gorgeous!!

2024-04-05 16:58:35 +0000 UTCThe hanging planters are soo cute!! Also duck planter? Good job team!

2024-04-05 16:56:06 +0000 UTCthey look beautiful! Can we get some tiger lillies too?
Michael Green
2024-04-05 16:33:39 +0000 UTCYou'll be happy to know Alex's response to one of my comments above. :) "Yes! You will be able to change the swatch or create new swatches for most of the vegetation items"
Jennifer
2024-04-05 16:01:36 +0000 UTCOhh! All of them are beautiful! I love the Zinnia elegans. They come in so many pretty colors.... And forget-me-nots!
Sarah
2024-04-05 15:53:26 +0000 UTCthese are sooo cool! I'd love to see some Spanish moss as I see them all the time here in Florida:)

2024-04-05 15:50:47 +0000 UTCOh my gosh, I love them all!!
Madragal
2024-04-05 15:31:21 +0000 UTCI really love all of the plants shown today! They all look absolutely lovely! My suggestion for plants to add would be forget-me-not flowers and redwood/giant sequoia trees. I'm not sure how likely redwood trees would be, since they are very localized (I think only Oregan and California have them) and very tall, however I think they're very stunning!
Leaf
2024-04-05 15:23:15 +0000 UTCLooks absolutely amazing! Im a huge plant enthusiast so ill be throwing these all over my builds! Haha id love to see some peonies too and some more climbing plants would be awesome, maybe clematis, sweet peas, things like that. Generally having plants i can have "climbing" my houses walls so i can make overgrown builds, that would be incredible! I have no idea if it woulf even be possible but if there were plants that could be placed on roofs as well to crawl up the roof ahhh id be in love!
Pernille Hjerpseth
2024-04-05 15:22:22 +0000 UTCObviously the vegetation is awesome, already! Just beautiful and so promising! Peach trees, blueberry bushes, indoor herb planters... I absolutely adore the thought of growing my own food, but I have next to no actual gardening skill, so that's one of my fav things to do in game!
Kittle
2024-04-05 15:22:15 +0000 UTCIt will be a beautiful Paralives world!! ❤️ I don't believe I saw them in the grouping, but two of my favorite houseplants are the Ficus Tree and False Aralia. And, as far as outdoors I love Wisteria, especially vining on walls. Your work is always so lovely, Léa, and I look forward to more!! Oh, I almost forget... African Violets for houseplants! 😁
tey711
2024-04-05 15:21:21 +0000 UTCThank you! Yes, we do plan to create more plants but we are almost done for those that we wanted for release. More will surely come after that though!
Alex Massé
2024-04-05 15:19:55 +0000 UTCThanks for the feedback! We do plan to tweak the colors of all the items of the build mode including the vegetation
Alex Massé
2024-04-05 15:18:51 +0000 UTCHehehe! Yes, flowers are recolorable!
Alex Massé
2024-04-05 15:18:12 +0000 UTCIt's not planned for now but maybe in the future!
Alex Massé
2024-04-05 15:17:50 +0000 UTCThank you!! You will be able to edit items on every lot if you want and there will also be a cheat to edit items that are outside of lots and place new ones there as well
Alex Massé
2024-04-05 15:17:06 +0000 UTCAmazing plants! I really love them. Will you be making more plants? If so, I would love to put Wisteria in my future parra's gardens😁
Sabine Groenen
2024-04-05 15:16:01 +0000 UTCYes, you will be able to change the scale of these items and recolor them as well!
Alex Massé
2024-04-05 15:15:15 +0000 UTCI love all the different variety however I think some of the colors are too bright and flat to look realistic. Like the sakura, japanese maple, hedges and some of the pink and red flowers. I think the plants can be pretty and colorful without looking like a neon highlighter
Court12413
2024-04-05 15:14:51 +0000 UTCThank you Christina! We do plan to add the ability to grow vegetables but it will probably be after the initial release of the game in Early Access
Alex Massé
2024-04-05 15:14:32 +0000 UTCThe Paras can have watering cans, as a treat XD
ladyteruki
2024-04-05 15:14:22 +0000 UTCI suck at landscaping, so I better improve to take advantage of all the options we have. Especially since I imagine the flowers will be recolorable (the bushes in the building showcase were, so I don't feel like my assumption is too bold). I will have ZERO excuse to build houses on boring empty lots XD
ladyteruki
2024-04-05 15:13:45 +0000 UTCThank you Maxx! Yes, most of the plants will have different color swatches and you will be able to create your own too. However, it's true that some trees that change color in the fall won't be recolorable because they will automatically change color when the season changes
Alex Massé
2024-04-05 15:13:34 +0000 UTCall I ask is that we can water the houseplants for fun
Adrian Silagan
2024-04-05 15:03:39 +0000 UTCThe foliage for this game looks so beautiful and 'realistic' (thickness, size, colors etc.), really great work. Lovely to see all the variety. Personally, I'd also love a magnolia tree. Remind me, can we alter the height of trees and plant trees/shrubs/flowers all throughout the neighborhood or are we limited to the lots and the rest comes with the world?
Zedef
2024-04-05 15:02:20 +0000 UTCThis all looks amazing what blows my mind is how natural and the foliage looks. I can’t wait to play.
TrePixels
2024-04-05 14:57:13 +0000 UTCWill fall/autumn include leafs falling from the trees and collecting in the yard/streets?
Zedef
2024-04-05 14:56:35 +0000 UTCThank you! We are planning on having different styles of grass and wild flowers that you will be able to paint on the terrain, at the same time than painting the terrain texture. More info on that in the future, as we work on that!
Alex Massé
2024-04-05 14:51:28 +0000 UTCYes, we do have an apple tree! We might add more fruit trees later on, when we add gardening and harvesting to the game :)
Alex Massé
2024-04-05 14:49:54 +0000 UTCThis all looks incredible!! What blows me away the most is how natural and thick the foliage looks in the third last image. I can't wait to see what amazing landscaping people can achieve with these!! As for what plants I'd love to see, consider this my official request for Poinsettia. It's a very common plant here around Christmas time (the Swedish name even means "Christmas star") and after discussing it in the Discord server it seems like it's quite an international thing. Not to mention how utterly gorgeous the plant is!! 😍
Zahlea
2024-04-05 14:42:54 +0000 UTCThank you a lot for these lovely plants and trees that you made for the game ! It'll be amazing to have the "Dragon Tree" as a houseplant for interior 🌿
SarahCroft
2024-04-05 14:40:45 +0000 UTCWill the flowers and such be as customisable as the rest of the items?
Bizbot
2024-04-05 14:29:58 +0000 UTCI LOVE all the flowers and shrubs and everything! Big fan of adding color to yards. :) Also because barberry is invasive where I live and I volunteer at a forest preserve where we spend half a year cutting away barberry, I saw that listed and immediately narrowed my eyes and whispered "...barberry" with great disdain. 😂 But it's a video game, so no such thing as invasives! Can't wait to use it for the great color! Other plants I love: amsonia hubrichtii (blue star) and purple lovegrass for the fluffiness, and asters for the full-shrub color!! A magnolia tree would also be nice.
Sarah
2024-04-05 14:29:45 +0000 UTCI have never heard of a better idea!! Sign me up for anything witchy and surrounded by nature!!
Jennifer Huber
2024-04-05 14:25:50 +0000 UTCOh, these are just lovely! I can't wait to use all of these in the game when it is released. Could we have some Christmas/Easter cacti and an air plant? I was going to suggest a bonsai too but I think saw one in a pot. Will we be getting the chance to grow vegetables, herbs and fruit bushes - like raspberries, strawberries, potatoes, rice, pumpkin etc?
Christina Ozeki
2024-04-05 14:23:55 +0000 UTCAhhhh!!!! I'm so excited!!!!! I would love to see some outdoor ferns and alternative ground cover like Irish moss and creeping thyme!!
Madison Deitch
2024-04-05 14:21:43 +0000 UTCThis looks so pretty. Firstly, I just love the Sakura tree. Just love it. Though the thing that always gets me is the house plants 🪴. At this point it is the perfect thing to flesh out a house. 'Random open space in your house?' - 'Boom, house plant' Can't wait to build with these.
Jean321x .
2024-04-05 14:14:39 +0000 UTCamazing variety and beautiful colours!
Adriana Takáčová
2024-04-05 14:13:59 +0000 UTCThey have shown of that Paras can smell the flowers before, I'd love if being outside next to a bunch of flowers and greenery would have an effect on the Paras moods and emotions, or even inspire them. Idk if I would want them to need watering personally, though, it seems like too much of a chore in actual gameplay. And its not like every plant in a garden needs artificial watering either. If the watering is optional and just to make the Paras happy without consequence, I would love it ofc.
Maxx
2024-04-05 14:12:25 +0000 UTCspider plants and pothos are must haves, imo; love all you guys have shown
AmorFati
2024-04-05 14:08:06 +0000 UTCIn the small tree category they have an apple tree and you can see the apples I wonder if we’d be able to pick those apples!
Peachkins
2024-04-05 14:07:45 +0000 UTCThe oleander, dahlias and calla lilies are so beautiful 😭 I’ve been wondering whether you guys are considering adding some color variation swatches for the plants, I know a color wheel doesn’t make sense and it has to work with the leaves changing in fall and all, but having tulips and roses of different colors would add so much variety for example. Or slightly different shades of green for bushes and trees just to make them look unique next to each other in other than size. Either way, this is such great variation and I love that you fully went for real existing species rather than just generic ones! You can just feel the love oozing from every corner of this game
Maxx
2024-04-05 14:07:24 +0000 UTCOhhh these look so nice! I'm a big fan of plants, indoor and outdoor so this is something i'll use a lot :) Can i suggest that maybe there could be some grass / wild flower options for gardens? Less in the sense of objects, but like those little grass textures on the ground that paras can simply walk through. that's something i find missing most of them time. Maybe some tall grass, some small flower patches like daysies etc. That would be absolutely awesome!
lias
2024-04-05 14:04:22 +0000 UTCVery cool. Will we have fruit trees too? I know that we can harvest from other plantas...
Panthro Samah
2024-04-05 14:04:06 +0000 UTCThe flowers have quite bold colours, but I trust you will add in some less saturated alternate colours, in time. One of my favourite garden plants is Syringa vulgaris - a fluffy, unkempt shrub taller than a person, with beautiful and fragrant flowers for a short period of the year. Would make for a good "wild looking" addition to any garden!
Vera Ohlsen
2024-04-05 14:02:36 +0000 UTCLoving the variety !
Joanie Boissonneault
2024-04-05 14:02:18 +0000 UTCWelp, time to start designing a witchy cottage in the woods full of way too many plants where my Para can avoid all human interaction since I can't do it IRL
Zak the Sloth
2024-04-05 13:58:21 +0000 UTCi really love the variety and looks of the plants! gingkos are my favourite trees and i'm super excited they'll be in the game!! what i would love to see more of in the future is more colourful and lavish flower displays for tables
Melina W
2024-04-05 13:58:18 +0000 UTCI love Autumn colours so I am even more excited now. :)

2024-04-05 13:58:05 +0000 UTCOh my! Those flowers look gorgeous!!! And the trees look so good

2024-04-05 13:57:22 +0000 UTCOh my goodness I am in absolute adoration, how bright and colorful! I'd really love to see some lilacs and violets and sweet pea flowers (we called my sister who passed away 2 years ago Sweetpea). But either way, these are wonderful! Will we be able to water our houseplants and watch them grow?! I've always said having that and open windows that let curtains flutter in the breeze are things I've wanted in The Sims!

2024-04-05 13:57:09 +0000 UTCThese look so beautifull! I would personally love to see chrysanthemum flowers added. In my culture we place them on graves, it symbolizes grief. It would be nice to add them to the cemetery!

2024-04-05 13:55:47 +0000 UTCI really love the art style of this game. I can't wait until we get to see what gardening is going to look like.

2024-04-05 13:55:38 +0000 UTCYes! The details are not set in stone yet but we plan to add seasons to the game in an update after the initial Early Access release and some vegetation items will change color when switching season

2024-04-05 13:55:29 +0000 UTCNot at launch but we do want to add gardening and harvesting later on!

2024-04-05 13:54:29 +0000 UTCI love everything so far. I know this won't be high priority but could we get a Joshua tree? They are so unique looking and for a desert landscape it would give a little more variation than palm tree. Only thing is I think they only grow in two places in the world so not so well known. It would also be really cool to get some semi aquatic or swamp plants and trees. Just some ideas.

2024-04-05 13:54:00 +0000 UTCThank you! Celestial events are not planned for now but it could be a cool thing to add one day! Yes, we will be watching the eclipse together Monday and I'm looking forward to it!

2024-04-05 13:53:36 +0000 UTCYes! You will be able to change the swatch or create new swatches for most of the vegetation items

2024-04-05 13:52:41 +0000 UTCWill some of these have seasonal changes in appearance?

2024-04-05 13:51:39 +0000 UTCWill the flowers and apple tree ect be harvestable?

2024-04-05 13:51:03 +0000 UTCNot planned for now but we do want to introduce gardening to produce vegetables in the future and this will require watering!

2024-04-05 13:50:23 +0000 UTCThe plants are beautiful. I would love to have them on my garden. Also a question, not related to this weeks patreon post: are celestial events (solar/lunar eclipses, comets) planned in Paralives? As Montréal is on the path of totality (with clear skies), are you prepared for this event? I hope you guys enjoy this rare moment with the team! Can’t wait to see pics of them! I apologise for the long text.
