Showing Off Different Fences + Our Fence Placement Tool!
Added 2024-03-08 13:59:10 +0000 UTCHi everyone! Chloé back again to present today’s Patreon Post.
Two weeks ago, we featured a little sneak peek of our fences in a modern house build. Today, I will be showing them a bit more thoroughly!
First of all, we have two methods with which you can place your fences:
✏️The drawing method, where you can draw your fences the same way you would your walls.
🧱The wall replacement method, where you can select a wall and have it changed to a fence of your choosing.
Currently, fences can not be curved. A lot of designing to get rounded fences is required, so it’s a feature we will keep for later. If you try to replace a curved wall with a fence, it will not work.

Both methods to place fences: at the front, the drawing method. At the back, the wall replacement method.
Our system works so that you can easily connect several fences from different angles, which I think it makes using them so much fun! You can also connect them to walls and different fences with no issues.

As you add more pieces, the pillars at the connected edges will update to be oriented in a way that looks the best for what you created!
I am currently creating new ones, here are a few that are in the game at the moment!

As some of you eagle-eyed patrons may have noticed in our modern house, we will have fencing that matches our stairs’ railings. This way, you can coordinate them if you so desire.

For gardens and the like, you will have a selection of fences, short and tall, available. Players will also have a few privacy screens like the one on the left to choose from!

If you want something more sturdy and chic to uh… hide them with style, there are also some brick and stone fences available.

Lattice fences if you want to have a bit more privacy from your neighbors. These are quite common in Canada; I can hardly make it in a suburb without seeing at least one yard fenced with these.

If you want something a bit more stiff for city-oriented builds, there will be some options too! Chain-link fences are next on our list.
That’s all for today folks! I hope you enjoyed today’s little showcase. I simply cannot wait to get creative with these fences, since they add so much to a build! What kind of fence would you like to see in the game? Let us know!
Have a wonderful weekend y’all!

2024-03-15 02:48:04 +0000 UTCI think the stair railing post and the fence post need to be merged into one when placing. Anyone feel the same?

2024-03-13 19:45:41 +0000 UTCHey there Paralives team! I’ve got a suggestion for the cas buttons! Maybe you could put in a prescription glasses button so glasses aren’t accessories only, like in the game that shall not be named. And maybe you could make buttons for sexuality and gender too! Let me know if you like my idea!

2024-03-12 03:42:09 +0000 UTCI am loving the progress so far ❤️ Circle fences isn’t an immediate must, knowing that there is a possibility of them arriving in the future is enough 😊

2024-03-11 19:57:57 +0000 UTCI wondered about this too, as I really like that iron and brick fence actually. From looking at the picture, my guess would be that it's a style of a fence that automatically alternates pillars and fence segments, given how it meets the other solid brick fence type

2024-03-11 15:02:55 +0000 UTCA question, How will the placement of pillars work? As in, in the example for brick fences, the example on the left has wrought iron bars followed by a solid brick pillar and it repeats in a pattern. Is this a style of fence where the pillar placement is predetermined, or is it by using a combination of different fences?

2024-03-11 14:56:07 +0000 UTCI believe it's because they didn't developed the roof tool yet.

2024-03-11 14:37:39 +0000 UTCHI, I have a little "criticism"to make, that is, when you show the interiors, the furniture and parafolk emit shadows that follow the sunlight, as if there were never a roof. Is it something done on purpose or is it something you've never noticed? because in my opinion it's not beautiful, it would be nice to have softer lights, or even when there is no light and no window to see the room totally dark, or it would be beautiful to see a room without lights and with only windows that let the sun's rays enter the room from the windows

2024-03-10 08:56:47 +0000 UTCI dont think that something as basic as matching swatches should be be counted as spoiling us, it should be bareminimum 😑 Not that I can blame anyone on feeling so atm 😥

2024-03-09 13:05:25 +0000 UTCi frickin love the lil animation when you place the fence down, it does a lil wiggly bounce, hehe :3

2024-03-09 07:45:33 +0000 UTCOnly thing I don't want is the pillars changing places when making the fences longer. It's super annoying in the Sims 4 when they randomly change places and ruining its looks. I want complete control over those pillars.

2024-03-09 02:26:12 +0000 UTCi would love a fence option that looked a little weathered, maybe an old stone wall with moss growing in between the rocks etc and maybe one that's all glass for more modern builds. privacy screens that have vines or something similar growing on them could be pretty too i really like the fences shown in this post, a lot of different styles so there's something for any house!

2024-03-08 23:05:09 +0000 UTCThat's true it's possible it could be limited to use on the standard wall type but hopefully not! I love ivy

2024-03-08 23:04:44 +0000 UTCRight now it snaps to 0, 45, 90, 135 and 180. Could be nice to have a setting that changes that!

2024-03-08 21:22:06 +0000 UTCGreat job thus far, and love that we will have matching ones to stair rails. How about something like this: data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAEAAAABCAQAAAC1HAwCAAAAC0lEQVR42mN8WQ8AAlcBas53/MIAAAAASUVORK5CYII= Or this: data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAEAAAABCAQAAAC1HAwCAAAAC0lEQVR42mN8WQ8AAlcBas53/MIAAAAASUVORK5CYII= or this: data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAEAAAABCAQAAAC1HAwCAAAAC0lEQVR42mN8WQ8AAlcBas53/MIAAAAASUVORK5CYII= or this: data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAEAAAABCAQAAAC1HAwCAAAAC0lEQVR42mN8WQ8AAlcBas53/MIAAAAASUVORK5CYII= or this: data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAEAAAABCAQAAAC1HAwCAAAAC0lEQVR42mN8WQ8AAlcBas53/MIAAAAASUVORK5CYII= or this: data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAEAAAABCAQAAAC1HAwCAAAAC0lEQVR42mN8WQ8AAlcBas53/MIAAAAASUVORK5CYII= or this: data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAEAAAABCAQAAAC1HAwCAAAAC0lEQVR42mN8WQ8AAlcBas53/MIAAAAASUVORK5CYII= or this: data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAEAAAABCAQAAAC1HAwCAAAAC0lEQVR42mN8WQ8AAlcBas53/MIAAAAASUVORK5CYII= Would love to see these and any other's you can come up with :)

2024-03-08 20:42:35 +0000 UTCI love that the fence tool shows the angle; would it be possible to have an angle snap feature? Maybe one we can customize so we have options for 90°, 45°, etc.
Megan Santucci
2024-03-08 20:16:22 +0000 UTCI completely understand! Thank you for the answer to my question :) The fences look incredible and you are all doing such a wonderful job with this game!

2024-03-08 20:03:41 +0000 UTC@Alex Massé Oh that's pretty cool, that allows for nice variations in the way you draw your fences ! Including in a straight line ! Ah well, it was worth asking XD I suppose this kind of Frankenstein mod would not be as hard as coming up with an entirely unique new fence. I certainly don't have the skills for that, but you know XD @r m Oh you're right, now that you mention it I seem to remember ivy indeed ! I don't know if we'll be able to place it freely and/or on fences yet, but it's certainly something to keep in mind.
ladyteruki
2024-03-08 19:52:34 +0000 UTCOh, fences with possibility to connect them at the angle ! Will be so useful for sure ! Really nice of forms even now too, we have rural, neutral, noble and urban ones ! To each their own !
FinFan 83
2024-03-08 19:48:49 +0000 UTCThank you! The grass will not be placable and will automatically appear like that on the terrain
Alex Massé
2024-03-08 19:43:14 +0000 UTCCorrect, the pillar from point B would remain in place! It's not possible to mix and match pillars and fences unfortunately but it's true that the modding tools would allow you to do that somewhat easily!
Alex Massé
2024-03-08 19:42:46 +0000 UTCFences with decorations would be cute! It's possible that we add some in the future About the corner poll, they are automatically placed at the ends and connection points between fences We won't have gates for fences at launch but it would be great to add them later on!
Alex Massé
2024-03-08 19:40:16 +0000 UTCWe plan on adding spiral staircases in the future! It's true that a curved balcony won't be able to have fences, for now
Alex Massé
2024-03-08 19:35:36 +0000 UTCThank you! We might fix this in the future but we will keep it like that for now because it's a technical challenge and we prefer to make progress on other features before the release
Alex Massé
2024-03-08 19:34:43 +0000 UTCThis is a bit tricky to fix but hopefully we can work on that in the future!
Alex Massé
2024-03-08 19:33:41 +0000 UTCThanks for the feedback! It's a bit tricky on the technical side to make them connect but maybe we can improve that in the future!
Alex Massé
2024-03-08 19:32:43 +0000 UTCThanks a lot for the feedback and good suggestions! 1 - Privacy screens are a variety of fence 2 - Yes, fences are recolorable 3 - It is one variety 4 - It is possible at the moment but we are still looking into to see if it causes issues in the build mode or if it works well! 5 - If the previous point works, it will be possible yet! 6 - That would be really cute! Not planned for now though but maybe in the future! 7 - Holes in the fence are not planned but maybe we can consider them in the future because that would be fun!
Alex Massé
2024-03-08 19:31:50 +0000 UTCThat would be great!
Alex Massé
2024-03-08 19:28:14 +0000 UTCI love the grass in the close ups. Are those going to be placable items? Or will the grass always have some dimensionality like that? It's such a nice detail that adds a lot of realism.
r m
2024-03-08 19:25:33 +0000 UTCI think they showed ivy before on a house exterior! I agree that it will look great layered over the privacy screens.
r m
2024-03-08 19:22:15 +0000 UTCYes! A smaller hedge that works as a fence, or an overgrown fence with plants woven around the bars would look great!
r m
2024-03-08 19:20:19 +0000 UTCThat's pretty cool. The privacy screens look nice and not bulky, it could look very nice if we have ivy and other similar plants like that. It's even possible that for some build I could use the privacy screen inside, in fact ! Quick question. Is it right to conclude that if I draw a fence from point A to point B, stop, then draw a fence from point B to point C, the pillar at point B will remain in place ? Also, are pillars always connected to the same fence, or can you select them independently ? Say, I like the brick pillar from the zigzag gif, but I want a more moddern fence like the last one : can I use those ingame, or will I need a mod that combines them ?

2024-03-08 18:51:40 +0000 UTCOh, My! Everything is SOOOOOO beautiful! And these chairs... not sure how you call them in English...the white beach-like ones... You are warming my heart with a nostalgic memory. We had one in my husband's yard in our home country! I loved to rest on it! Thank you! (we call them шезлонг...is it a deck chair or sunbed in ENG?) ❤️

2024-03-08 18:30:36 +0000 UTCI was wondering if you guys plan on having fencing with some decorations. Such as flowers on the fences os so on. I also noticed in the last picture, there is a 'corner' poll forming in the middle of the fence. How are the fences set to generate these polls? Is it at the end of each 'drag of fence' or is there a way we can control how these generate? I noticed you have not shown any gates for the fences, any particular reason?

2024-03-08 18:08:03 +0000 UTCloving the fences😊 i hope you guys can add some fences with lanterns or maybe string lights in the future 👍🏾 anywho looking forward to next week post!

2024-03-08 17:47:08 +0000 UTCStair railings look like they're on a slightly different system. So, they may not be subject to the same challenges. I'm more concerned it means we can't put a rail (as opposed to half wall) on a curved balcony. Though I suppose that's not a super common feature in most houses.
BonaparteBardithion .
2024-03-08 17:04:27 +0000 UTCDoes no curved fencing confirm no spiral stairs? 🥲

2024-03-08 15:38:19 +0000 UTCYes I cannot wait to make a playground with the chain link fence!

2024-03-08 15:08:29 +0000 UTCOhhhh I'd love to see some fences to use on a farm/cottagecore. Google says it's called chestnut fence in English!

2024-03-08 15:02:51 +0000 UTCHigh fences make great neighbours! Loving the fence tool so far! Chain lihk fences are the most common ones I see around here Looking forward to seeing it!

2024-03-08 14:59:57 +0000 UTCLooks absolutely amazing! A question though. Could we have the fence connect to the railing? So it's not 2 seperate posts? :)
Kiiiwiii
2024-03-08 14:56:45 +0000 UTCOne thing. The fence and the stairs rail don't meet. Is that something that will be changed? It looks weird to have two posts at the top.
BreakingGaia
2024-03-08 14:51:26 +0000 UTCWow. I baffles me how I get excited just to see something that looks very normal. Thanks for making fences that look like real things I would see walking around.

2024-03-08 14:49:01 +0000 UTCI also commented this earlier, so fun that we both thought of this 😍

2024-03-08 14:44:09 +0000 UTCI think wrought iron fences would be neat too! I love the wooden panels they've shown too :)
Anna
2024-03-08 14:38:52 +0000 UTCI love that most of the stuff you guys do is everyday stuff that people actually see and use in their every day lives, rather than weird stuff that is just not that common. We can build houses that actually look like our own houses, instead of making do with all the weird stuff in that other game. These look so versatile and great!! With the chain wire fences, could we have both the diamond shape (very popular in Australia) and the square shape, also chicken wire fence (smaller hexagon shape). :-)
Fran Smith
2024-03-08 14:36:32 +0000 UTCThe fences look great! One little nitpicky thing I’d like to suggest is having the stair railings and the fence connect, so there isn’t two separate ends - I’m sure that’s something you’ve already looked at but just in case! Doing a great job tho, I loveee these updates :)

2024-03-08 14:35:35 +0000 UTCI like so much that there's a good variety in the ones you created. Great work. Keep going👍.

2024-03-08 14:30:26 +0000 UTCI love the white farm looking fences. It would be cool to have some barbed wire fencing for an alternative option if your trying to make the area look more grunge or used and not so dream cottage core farm. Or the like hand stone built walls that are are used in Scotland and Ireland a lot. I'm not sure what those are called. I also agree with the others of having a variance with a dilapidated look.
Dominique Kurtz
2024-03-08 14:27:32 +0000 UTCFences are generally used to mark borders and borders are rarely curved, so I'm good with no curved fences! Really like the look of these fences, plenty of variety and they look like fences I could spot in RL and/or wouldn't mind in my yard. Looking forward to seeing more fence and door/gate options in the future! The placing the fence animation is really cute, by the way. A few questions: - Are privacy screens (as shown in this post) decor items or a variety of fences? - Are fences recolorable? - Is the brick and metal 'fence' as shown in this post 1 variety or two combined? - Is it possible to add decorations to fences, like hang paintings or flower pots etc on them? - Is it possible to add light fixtures to fences to illuminate the yard? - Can we add a cat/dog door or flap to a fence or gate? Possibly with a locking/chip mechanish so it only works for your pets or a cheaper version and then random pets can show up. - Can we have the option to make holes in the fence (either as decoration or functional) for nosy neighbors and/or dogs to look through? Suggestions for future varieties: - Galvanized steel fences - Concrete post with wooden panels in between per 1 piece of fence, not just concrete posts at the end/beginning (these are very popular in my country) - Wooden fences with the panels either horizontally or vertically - Different heights of wood-paneled fences, like 1 m, 1,5m and 2 m - Thin metal wire 'boxes' with rocks/pebbles inside of them (either with pre-made wire 'box' or to draw them yourself and have your para fill them with rocks/pebbles) - Cat-proof fences and/or cat-proof add-ons to fences like the rolling mechanisms or the rubber/metal pointy things (that are rarely effective)?

2024-03-08 14:26:12 +0000 UTCIm loving these so far! A fence type id really like to see in game one day is what we call "skigard" in norwegian, or i think roundpole fence is the translation for it. Theyre so great for cottage vibes! And for farms like their vegetable gardens and such!
Pernille Hjerpseth
2024-03-08 14:25:45 +0000 UTCA log fence?!?! That is so cool! You Norwegians are so fancy, I've never seen anything with diagonal logs before.

2024-03-08 14:24:25 +0000 UTCA "living fence" would be cute, although that one might be under plants. ... Also, sorry if I post too much, I don't usually use the mobile site and I got confused about the enter button.

2024-03-08 14:21:07 +0000 UTCI am hoping we get "broken" variants for those run-down places. Rusty metal, crooked boards, bent bars.

2024-03-08 14:14:39 +0000 UTCI don't know the proper english name for them, but I would love a "skigard" as it's called in norwegian. If you search it up you will see a very cute homemade fence, perfect for cottages and rural areas.

2024-03-08 14:07:02 +0000 UTCNot being able to create a curved fence is not a big deal to me because we are free from the grid and can place fences at any angle. 😆 All of it looks really good, guys!
