Exclusive Reveal: The Language of our Parafolks

Hey everyone!

Andrei here ready to deliver you some big news! 📣

As you all know, we’ve been working a lot lately on how Paras will communicate with each other. Well, after much anticipation from your end, we are very pleased to present to you the spoken language of the Parafolks: Parli.

🎥⬆️ Please watch the above video before reading further!

About the Video

🗣 The Language

In Paralives, building relationships and interacting with other characters will be an important aspect of the live mode. Parli, pronounced par-lee, is the spoken language that we have created for our Parafolks and that you will be hearing when your characters chat together and express themselves.

💬 Discussion Animations

Alice created many discussion interactions and reaction animations that we are first showcasing today. This allows our Parafolks to have conversations, ask questions, argue, tell jokes, flirt and more. We will be adding more and more discussion and group interactions so that your characters can live their social lives to the fullest.

📝 Additional Notes

Development Diary: How We Created Parli

In the following paragraphs, you’ll find out how this language came to be from our goals to the many tests we did and how we got to choose our favorite!

🎯 Our Goals

Coming up with a whole new language is a daunting task, especially for us, who had never done such a thing before! To get started, we decided that the language should be:

  1. Incomprehensible gibberish so to give the player freedom of storytelling
  2. Different from the made-up languages of other franchises
  3. Minimalistic without long and exaggerated sentences (“less is more”)
  4. Distinct from English gibberish, while still sounding familiar enough
  5. Realistic enough as if it could exist in real life
  6. Not too goofy but also not too serious with a good balance that would give a cozy effect!

With all of that in mind, we were ready to start coming up with ideas!

🔉 Our Research & Tests

At first we came up with simple ideas such as altering existing words (ex: French Verlan, anagrams, inverting words), using theater improvisation exercises (ex: limiting letters, using only onomatopoeia) or other things like simply using universal languages such as Esperanto and Interlingua. As we progressed, we came up with more and more complex ideas and got to study how actual linguists create their own conlangs (made-up languages) by first choosing a specific palette of sounds and then making all sorts of rules to combine them. So we used these same approaches for some of our ideas and the results were pretty cool! In total we came up with over 20 different approaches and recorded more than 2000 instances of words and expressions. We also got the whole team to give their own opinion on our ideas through a survey. We got a lot of good feedback which helped us decide which approach was our favorite. We could’ve gone on brainstorming and testing things forever…but it was time to make a decision.

🏆 Our Pick

Outside of my work life, one of the things that I enjoy doing to make my partner laugh is to sing any existing song in a made-up gibberish that I improvise to hide the fact that I forgot the lyrics. It always works. So I thought that it’d be nice to incorporate it as one of our approaches. I brainstormed a bunch of made-up words through improv and created a phonetic alphabet with the recurrent material of those words.

Here’s the current phonetic alphabet of our language.

You guessed it—this approach was a team favorite and the one that best met all of the goals we had mentioned before. So we decided to pick it as our language! Later on, we added more rules such as limiting the amount of vowels to 2 per word or put 2 consonants one after the other in order to make the language more identifiable.

And there you have it! It was a real adventure for me personally to jump in all this brainstorming with no linguistics background whatsoever. It was especially really fun to voice-act all the voice overs with my partner and see them come to life in the game. Do you believe this language sounds right for Paralives? We’d love to hear what you think about it. On that note, I hope you enjoyed today’s post and thank you so much for your support!

Buh byyyeee!!! 🎸✨

Andrei

Edit - April 20th, 2023: This post is now public, feel free to share it!

Comments

I LOVE Parli - it sounds perfect! I was (and still am) really REALLY tired of the modern, casual and above all AMERICAN sounding Simlish. I'm so pumped to hear Parli! :D It's pretty, delicate, and perfect!

Lautel Okhio

Some longer words and stung together sentences would be good, it sounds a little caveman right now. But the concept and language is good.

IdrilPuck

I love it! My only opinion/suggestion is that including some longer words (3 of more syllables from time to time), could make the language more natural... But I'm only familiar with romanic languages and english, so maybe I'm a little biased :) Good job!

Anna

I love it, sounds great but also distinct to this game.

Kayleigh

Just personally, it's almost there but sounds a bit unnatural because one of the parafolks keeps responding in two-syllable clipped-sounding sentences. Maybe it would sound more like natural if the number of syllables was switched up a bit and the words had less hard consonants?

TriforceSims

I can't wait to see more glimpse of characters interacting! The game is really coming together 😁

Keosha 6

Since you asked to share opinion 😭😭 I’m sorry I don’t like it!! I’m not sure why, I can’t express to you exactly why, but I really love the voice actors damn 😍

perle catt

Sounds a bit like birds chirping, I love it 😍

Masha

More people doing a bad thing doesn't make it good 😅 I'm happy for your sake you don't mind!

Zahlea

love love love 😍

Ashley Brent

I don't see the problem. The Other Game does that too.

Rina xo

Got to this update a bit late but I had to comment. I love the sound of Parli! It's very cute and indeed 'comforting' to listen to, and you could have fooled me that the voices are professional actors already. I hope these two voices will remain as an option in the final game, I adore them.

PinkLyon

I love linguistics! Thank you so much for sharing the behind the scenes of how you developed it. :)

Hannah Moody-Goo

I'm a linguist and as I watched the video I couldn't help but draw up the sound inventories in my head haha 😅 Looks like a very classic conlang with no bells and whistles. And that's absolutely a good thing! It'll have international appeal and be easy for most people to mimic. Interesting that /t/ and /d/ are at different places of articulation - what's the reason for that?

Tom Lu

The language is perfect! wow 🤯 please show more of this because I’m already obsessed! 😅

Xavier Zayas

I love it! I do wish the sentences were a little longer for storytelling purposes.

Hot Mess Simmer

Absolutely love this

Margaret Flynn

I like it <3 How will the "hello" be in Parli? Will you provide a dictionary of basic phrases?

Teela

Love it! I sure hope the child and teen voice actors use believable distinct sounding ways of speaking.

Carrington Page IV

The voices are so pretty!

Cute Ghost

That's a lot of "k" sounds to get used to, but I love the voices!

Kyll

Wow! Fantastic job ❤️❤️❤️

Nathalie Carluccio

ITS SO CUTE! I'm a native English speaker, but my first words were in Yoruba. It sounds pretty and cosy! I love the rhythm of it, and as a long-time player of a certain other life simulation game franchise, I like that it sounds different and unique (and also less Americanized - I'm from the UK and really like that the accent doesn't sound too heavily one way or another - and also, that it's not super English-ified) you guys did a FANTASTIC job on this!

Lautel Okhio

I like it! Maybe a bit sharp with a lot of Ts- and K-sounds, but other than it's great. Never heard of real life international auxiliary language before so that was interesting. Your made up language sound pretty natural to me (I speak Swedish). Don't get me wrong, I like that the sharp sound were there, but it felt like they were there in almost every sentence and that might be irritating to listen to in the long run or when sped up.

Sandra

I love it!!

Falling For Dead Roses

I love this, if a language can be cute, this is it

Gill Reid

I feel like limiting the words to no more than 2 syllables makes it mimic how small children talk (especially with ending many words with the "ee" sound).

Adrian Silagan

The female voice actor definitely speaks Canadian French based off her accent - quite a unique and charming voice!

Adrian Silagan

I think the fact that the speech sounds kind of French distinguishes it from Simlish

Adrian Silagan

Can we please have the demo voices in the final game? I love them. The voices sounds so cute and cozy. Can't wait to see more of this new language for our Para's.

Rini_Sama

Don't worry this is not the final version all you see is a work in progress.

Lucie Baha

Please keep the original voices of the demos in the final version, I really like their voices. I love the language, the sounds really fit with the Parafolk's vibe

Sarah

Agree there are too many EE sounds. I am thrilled with how much work is going into this but already know I'll get annoyed with the K and EE sounds.

Kristen

Sounds like Spanish gibberish to me.

Kristen

I love the voice actors. the voices sound so calm

Bubblie Stuffies

LOVE

Natan Peixoto

I like the animations a lot. The voices are also really cool, I have to say that I don't like the many EEEEE at the end of the sentences. But I can't wait to see and hear more! Ps. I know you are working on it but the graphic on the windows is great! I like the reflections so much.

Giammarco Victor Venturi

Absolutely love it! The tones and inflections, yes!!

Vash T

I really like the parli language but I think it would really benefit from having less "i" suffixes for the words. It's kinda too sharp for my ears

Precious Sims

i love how it sounds like a mix of languages from all across the globe, makes it feel both unique and inclusive

Beth Attrup

It feels... robotic. All I hear is " Beep Boop." "Beep beep beep boop" " Beep Beep" It doesn't feel organic or flowy. The pauses in between calls and responses also feels far too brief. Like they're trying to cut one another off. Maybe too many EE sounds?

Caius Cosades

The name is fitting, "Parli" like parlé in French. Thank you for your hard work & for sharing this. The onky critic is it ends in a lot of "i" which can be a little hard on the ear repetitively !

sofst

POUKIE

sofst

It sounds cute, I like it :) I agree that less is more.

samber

It is a mix of multiple languages. I could hear the tone of Mandarin, Spanish, French, some Africans, and some islands. Good job!

Anatasia

I can't get over how good those paras look. I'm so excited for the character customization

BA

And conversely a monologuer

Sylvie Coward

Can't say I agree with it being either clever or an obvious choice. But it also doesn't matter what I think because that is the name now 😊 I'll just hope there won't be any more "para"/"par" prefixed terms for stuff. We already have: - parafolk/paras (while quite unsurprising and natural to name the game characters something related to the game's name, fact is it DOES add to the problem) - paradimes (the money in the game) - parli (now the language as well) Which isn't a lot seeing to the amount but it is 100% of all the things that have been named 😬

Zahlea

I actually love that they sound distinctly French, even if the language itself is gibberish. It would be kind of a sweet nod to the game's country of origin if that stays!

Tiffany Stallings

"Professional voice actors" are often over polished and sound too much alike. I would vote for whoever did the female sample be one of the voices. It sounded natural and had a lot of cultural flavor. Please recruit voice actors from various parts of the world, so they have flavors.

Leo Driscoll

They will make very beautiful children ❤️

KittyPara

They sound adorable ❤

Bleeb90

ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT! It doesn't sound like a made-up language... it sounds like it could be real! Brilliant!!

Moss

This is so wonderful. I love the amount of care and love and thought that goes into all of the aspects of this game. The "Cozy" vibe of the whole game so far that I have seen is so endearing; you can tell it has a soul. Great job team Paralives 👌❤️

Bethy Grace

Oh!!! great!! ilove it !!

rénette

I love it it sounds so pretty almost french

Desi Monique

This indeed fits the cozy vibe you are going for. I could listen to it all day and not get bored. Thank you for your hard work!

JossGun Shipper

I love how beautiful the game looks and runs. The parli sounds really cute, but seeing the hair being soo stiff and motionless next to the swaying grass and flowers outside the window, really takes away a bit from the game for me.This is just my opinion, but I do see the tons of love, effort and work that went in creating everything.I hope hair and clothing physics will be added later on. Amazing job <3 team Paralives :)

Kristian Dimitrov

I like how it sounds like it could be a real language, but it’s also not. It’s like a pleasant mix of languages and rolls off the tongue. I’d have to hear more of it, though.

BooDotBoo .

Oh, i love it :)

Erin Kyan

OMGGGGG

Sophia Caldas

I love the sounds of it. It's a lovely mix of language sounds! And you used the IPA system too! Impressed! I was so worried that you'd make a language that with that same underlying universal American twang that we all have to listen to all the time. I'm SOOO relieved that you didn't! This sounds really fresh and original. I hope, with your voice actors, that you use people from a variety of accent bases. I hope you actually get to read this. I am late replying because I live in the Asiatic region of the world around Australia. We generally get to see new things last on the global turn, after America and Europe. I hate to add criticism to something that has obviously been a labour of love, and resulted so wonderfully, but I think the number of syllables in each reply needs tweaking a little. Most of the replies are 2 or 3 syllables, and even in this very short video that makes it sound a little samish (the variation of sounds in the language itself sounds great), but in my opinion it needs more variation in syllable numbers. More 1 syllable replies, more 5 and 6 syllable replies. Am I guessing that the dialogue is short because you don't want conversations to be too long? And this is a good call, because they seem to take all day in that other game. The second thing, and much better way to definitely add more variation, in my opinion, is to do with the conversations in these dialogues being so obviously all lead by the initiator (the guy in this case). While this sometimes happens, like in an interview for a job or something, it doesn't generally happen in real life at all, particularly if it's a casual conversation. Conversation leading changes back and forth throughout a conversation. For example one person asks a question, and the other replies but then asks their own question. I'm not a programmer, so I don't know if you can do this programmatically or how easy it would be, but just that simple thing would really add much more variation to the dialogue, I think, even more variation than varying the length of the sentences. Because then you don't just have simple question/answer or statement/reply sounding dialogue, like "1,2. 1,2. 1,2". Instead, the dialogue would look more like "1,2. 2.1. 2.1. 1.2". It's not just the variation of the number of syllables, it's the intonation, pitch and tone that changes more naturally between participants when the person asking the question or saying the statement varies. This would result in a much more natural sound overall. This is difficult to explain, but this would add a lot more variation than it looks like it would on paper, because it's not just about number of syllable variation, it's about intonation as well.

Fran Smith

Magnificent!!!

Stanley Etienne

While I agree that perhaps they should be careful using the 'par' prefex too much (only for very big overarching parts of the game, perhaps), I think this was the obvious pun name to use for the language. "Paraphrase" doesn't sound universal enough that people would actually use it. But "parli" does. And it's a great obvious pun in English too - "parley". It was kind of the obvious choice for the language, so much so that I can't imagine them using any other name.

Fran Smith

I agree. I thought the voice acting already sounds great!

Fran Smith

OH MY GOD I AM ENAMORED WITH THIS

LightDeficient

LOVE!!

Natan Peixoto

Very excited! Like others have said, I do feel like it's a bit choppy. I think further down the line it would be interesting to add more subtle things to make it more realistic. Things like extended consonants, tones (some languages feel breathy, other nasal, etc) as well as some ''errors''. Like in casual talk words feel lazier and there are more interjections (tsé). Lots of love!!

Und3rgr0und -

I love how musical it sounds! Those particular samples seemed to have an awfully lot of "ee" sounds that stuck out but maybe that's just how I was hearing it. Overall, goals achieved!

comprehensive galaxy

🇧🇷❤️hiii Andrei. i love it, So cute🙈😊. Andrei, sobre os cabelos. Este cabelo está tão estranho fixo. Desistiram da ideia de movimento?

Junio Jose

i third that haha

Luna

that's awesome! will there be a system that takes individual words and scrambles them up? I feel like linguists would have one hell of a time helping you develop a system for that, that sounds like a natural language

Luna

So cute!

MelodyLove

French undertones with some Italian sounding conjugations, this is great work. I look forward to every update as always

Wolfnut88

This is so nerdy I love it ❤️

Megan Santucci

Poki Poki

VV

The bitchy and chiko kinda took me out haha

K. n

I love it - and I *did* study linguistics once upon a time, so I very much appreciate the amount of thought and intention that all y'all put into this. much delight that y'all learned about making conlangs (so much fun & interesting things to consider!) I don't have any constructive feedback; just keep it up, and I'm sure it will work out perfectly 👏🏽👏🏽👍🏽

Amata

Oh I love it! It has such a cute sound and actually sounds like it could be a real language!

mortia

Love the things rolling aspects! I agree with the flow comment because with the some of the short words it gets the cadence of the game who shan’t be named.

Chloe-oe-o

This is AMAZING! It’s so inviting and sweet sounding. Awesome job, once again!!

It'sMike64

Amazingly cute and cozy ^^, I don't wanna be silly or hurt anyone but it kinda sound like a middle eastern sound, many words end in "i" giving a great identity, if that is the goal, but i think it might be too much? idk, I'm just trying to give some athentic feedback, because it is Lovely and amazing everything the team is building up!!

Hoff Fondue

OMG I just LOVE these paras and their voices! Please include them in the game! The voices sound so natural and chill, with such an intimate, cozy vibe--I want my paras to sound just like this! Plus these two paras are SO cute and have tons of chemistry! I love them and want to play them! Please make it happen, pleeeez :)

Slippers

Love, love, love it!!! ❤️

tey711

sooo cute!!!

Lynzie K.

I love it! The conversation sounds very natural & fluid. Andrei did an amazing job!

Kiya Averhart

AMAZING and so cute!! I love it 🥰🥰🥰👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 brilliant work Andrei and team!

Becky

The language sounds really cute! 🥰 I like how it sounds like they're saying actual words! If I were to offer any feedback though, it would be that it sounds slightly "choppy". Maybe the words could bind together a bit better for more of a flow? 🤔 As for the name I'm very much not a fan of "Parli". It's the same tired "para" prefix without being very punny. Admittedly, I had come around to the word "Paraphrase" because while it uses the "para" prefix, it's clever in a way I don't find "Parli", even knowing that "parler" is the French word for "to talk". I guess the only good thing I can say about the name is that I can appreciate the nod to French and the language of the developers. I very much wish they'd stayed away from the "para" prefix (yes, I count "par" as the "para" prefix) and I dearly hope this is the last we see of it! I really love to read about the process of creating the language. Thank you SO much for that! And I love how thorough you were with it. It definitely payed of - imo you NAILED the cosy vibe ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

Zahlea

Omg so cute 😂 I love it 💚

pekeniax

Right? We're gonna have a crush soon enough

Riccardo

First : THIS IS SO CUTE Second : The voice over is actually really good! I really loved the cozy vibes and the minimalistic tone of the conversation Third : the dude is really attractive Forth: THIS. IS. SO. CUTE.

Riccardo

Wow.. This sounds so amazing! The language suits Paralives so well and the parafolks feel so alive and cozy ❤️ This language can not be better for paralivea it is perfect! It is also so perfect for story telling and the language sounds so pretty ❤️ I am so proud of everything that you do! This is truly amazing!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Lisa-Marie Berzelius

Hey, when you guys need a professional voice actor, let me know!

Maya Appavoo

Everyone has been giving the same feedback so I’ll focus on what I love, the arguing animation, the accents (I hope there are different accents for different worlds though that might be a little ambitious 🫣), the sharpness of the enunciations, the calmness of the way they speak. I will say that the laugh on Sofia looked a little clownish, the edges of her mouth were a little to pointed and her teeth didn’t separate when she laughed 😭. Also…love those dining chairs

Joanna Hinds

i second that ;)

Gaelle Khoueiry-Jaber

Loooove this! How subtle and cute they sound. Really love how laid back and comfortable the voice acting is (even if it's temperorary). I'm also a fan of the minimalist design, the long and drawn out gibberish of other games can be a little much sometimes. Also, is it me or am I hearing some subtle French inspirations? This is coming from someone who is not bilingual tho. 😅

ramaru

Love love LOOOOOVE!!!

Mikeela Chandler

Certain words felt alittle off but it's good overall. Sometime in the future I wanna seeour already established characters talk. I need to hear sebastian and Marvin talk. I bet Marvin has a sexy voice. And we need to hear our girl Maggie ❤️

Alexi

I really like it! I am going to echo a few comments that some longer words/compound words would add to the realism and avoid that clipped feeling, but the overall coziness, cuteness, and originality is absolutely amazing. The name of the language is also super cute and very smart. Looking forward to more!

Sam Puchlerz

Thats right! I forgot about that hair physics video! Love all the work and art so far

Chase Belcik

Omg first off i love the LAUGH but also the language is so nice and not as harsh as other game languages

aza

Cette langue est vraiment trop mignonne ! <3

Loukaila

Here's the deal, Paralives team. That woman Parafolk (Sofia) should definitely become a townie, you'll create a townie of me and make me her girlfriend (so she and I would be a lesbian couple cause yes.) and we'd have a small house with a lot of plants and cats. No, I didn't just plan my life with her in fifteen minutes. BUT I'll be forever happy to know that a version of me was able to love that woman. Deal? Deal, let's go (I'm kidding but I'm not if you're not ;) )

Lyyo_

It sounds super cute! Also idk if someone already said this but parli in Italian it means (you) speak/talk eheh

Alice

It sounds soo cute! It’s so pleasant to listen to, it really fits Paralives, i had no idea what to expect for the language tbh, but this is it!! I also love how distinctly non-english it sounds. Though as someone else stated, there is maybe a little too many short words/utterances in there though. The general sound is great, all it takes for more ”realism” really is just some more 3-5 syllable compounds. The animations are truly perfect though, it feels like a real conversation. Btw, that open window in the background, will we be able to open/shut some windows, or does it ”come” opened? Either way, I love that little guy already. Speaking of guys… That Jason… he better be single

Maxx

I will echo some of the comments on the /i/ sounds, but as a conlanging nerd myself, I love this! Any chance it was partially inspired by Toki Pona?

Ace of Hearts

I highly agree with this criticism! 👍 But I love the rather international sound and prefer it over the highly american inspired sound of the later iterations of simlish. (Sims 2 simlish I did love a lot, though)

Luan

That's a welcome treat! Been having the video on repeat for the past half hour

Tomaž

It sounds great!

PenudBudr

I think it’s looking and sounding really great so far! I love the hints of accent sprinkled in because of the way certain letters are pronounced (tongue placement and such). Definitely original and exciting! I’m excited to see more content to come. I’m especially excited to see the animations improvement. Right now everything is so small and difficult to differentiate if the game was one mute. I know it’s all WIP but still very excited!!🤎💛 Great job you guys

MexiVenus (Juno)

Someone else mentioned it, but I think there is too much frequency in the use of short words. I noticed it particularly in Sofia's responses. Made it feel kind of stunted and awkward for me? Like unnatural. If there was a mixture of those short syllables with slightly longer ones in the responses I think it would have made the interaction overall more fluid and natural sounding. I get this is a work in progress though and I'm sure I and everyone else would get used to it during actual gameplay. It was a cute interaction too despite me not understanding what they were saying. I do think the demos of the voices sound great already though so with voice actors it'll probably be outstanding, and its amazing that you guys managed to come up with a custom language like this and can showcase this conversation. As always we appreciate your hard work and thank you for sharing!

Victoria Franklin

I agree! Came here looking for this comment. natural languages don't have only short words - and the sentences used in conversations are longer as well. We have so many thoughts, and we need many words to let them out! Such a short version sounds unrealistic to me.

Edyta Kowalewska

Yess! It's perfect! I'm obsessed, the voice lines sound so good!

Linza

so you really expect me to believe those we NOT professional voice actors?? That was so good!!! And the way their mouths move when they speak? So pleasing to watch!Plus, I've became the worst version of myself. I am crushing on a Parafolk. That woman can take my whole existence. And I vote for having your partner as part of the voice actor team, her voice is so fitting! :)

Lyyo_

It sounds alright so far, definitely interesting, but the very high use of two syllable words starts to sound a bit much after just a few sentences

nemo

I'm losing my mind over this, the language is so distinguish AND the game looks amazing, omg!

SimMattically

Regarding "final voice overs will be recorded by professional voice actors".... I think it's already perfect as it was. So comfortable and engaging to listen to.

Jonas Svensson

I like the way it sounds. one thing I hope you'll add is having paras having an argument/emotional discussion interrupt each other, it would add some realism.

Andrea Digney

The language is absolutely adorable! I love it!

Cel Riegle

I LOVE IT!!!!!

Natália Stein

The more I listen to it, the more I enjoy the "ee/í" sounds that several of the words end in - I'm Latin American, and it makes me think of Spanish, so that adds to the coziness for me

Xavi Belanger

I love the overall coziness I get from their language! The only things I notice myself wanting are that I wish the conversations were less transactional (though I know that would be a challenge for this type of game world) and for some of the words to sound like they trail off a bit rather than how they currently have a hard stop. Great job on it, though, I still think it's super cute and unique!

Xavi Belanger

I'm looking forward to hearing more of the "Parli" language.

Monique D.

I noticed Parli features a lot of 'ee' sounds, which may take some getting used to. However, I trust that this was a deliberate choice and I'm excited to see it in-game. I like the demo voices, can't wait to hear the official ones when you hire the pros! 🗣

Pedro Lima

I love this!

Jade Young

OMG I love how they sound !!!😍 and that male para lookin kinda cute 😏

Joy Kennedy

I feel like some of the words should be a tad longer. Some of what the girl says like "buki", "luchi" "ichi", and then "ubuki" "adaki" there seems to be a lot of words that end with "i". It sounds more like a toddler trying to speak than an actual language. Other than that, keep up the great work! But definitely think of having words end with different vowels and other letters. I am not sure if this was mentioned but will parafolk have difference voices?

Elen Pink

Thank you! Andrei did an amazing job!

Gab (Paralives)

Ohhhhh absolutely perfect to my ears!

Star Zoë

Happy sippin'! 😊

Gab (Paralives)

So happy you're liking 😊

Gab (Paralives)

IM IN LOVE ❤️

lilblox

Wow. I love Parli! It sounds amazing. Can’t wait to see you guys build on it! 😍 “applause”

Marita Svendsen

omg

AL

Also will Jason be in the game because I know who my para is going to marry ;)

literary_warrior

It's so interesting to hear how you developed the language, and I'm so impressed with the results. Because of your decision to not have overly long sentences, the dialogue is so quick and lively, which I love. This has made the characters feel so alive, in a way we've not seen before, which makes this perhaps the most exciting reveal yet. I can't wait to hear more. I'm a little bit in love with Sofia; she's adorable!

Emerald Sausage

Second that! I liked the language itself, but every sentence being the same length was a bit monotonous, if this could be varied it would make the dialogues more organic (don't even have to go far, just do like 1 word - 4 words - 2 words instead of the same amount every time). Also, with the trait system, would be funny if you could have a quiet type of character who replies in monosyllables, I think we all know a listener-type person or two

Isaac Leydl

Glad you like it 😊

Gab (Paralives)

Thank you so much! :)

Gab (Paralives)

Thanks Paige! 😊

Gab (Paralives)

Thank you 😊

Gab (Paralives)

It sounds great! There were a lot of short words ending with "i", which made it sound a bit repetitive. Perhaps a few longer words would be helpful to it sounding real as well? It sounds great, though!

Romée Lutterop

Thank you, Ivan!

Gab (Paralives)

Great work and process for this. I do agree with another commenter that the short, bite-sized sound is nice, but could make the dialogue or convo naturally feel (or I guess sound) surface level. Rephrased, it all sounds like small talk at it’s current stage. Excited to see how you play around with the speech rhythms and flow overtime. :-) Thanks for sharing this!!

Alicia Cassey

They sound soooo sweet. Great job guys. 🥹❤️🌷

Anastasiâ Helwig

This is amazing :D And it's so cool how the animation of the paras' mouths matches what they're saying perfectly

moon

The way they talk with their hands such a nice little detail. I’m very impressed with the language. You guys did a wonderful job :)

literary_warrior

We didn't get into that in the post but yes! Most of the words will not have any meaning but some of them will be used in specific situations and will have meaning

Alex Massé

its very nice. it fits the calm and cosy feeling I get from the game. I wish the parateam a very nice weekend.

Bettina Dransfelt

SO ADORABLE!

Plutonian Ambassador to Earth

So glad you like it!!

Gab (Paralives)

It sounds like Italian to me, hahaha. But great job!

Bespectacled_Beans

I can see the reasoning for the short phrases (Minimalist approach) but since they all seem to have two or three syllables it gives the language a very clipped cadence. Some single syllable phrases or long/drawn out versions of the phonemes could balance it out.

BonaparteBardithion .

This is excellant! Can we made a mod to change the voice and add elfique langage?

Dodo-12-37

That's Andrei's amazing work on display! He wanted to create sounds that couldn't be easily associated to some English/American gibberish. That's why you can spot some non-English influences in there like Latin languages or Japanese :)

Gab (Paralives)

I really like Parli! 🥰 You certainly hit all of you goals that you mentioned. One funny thing is that the word that sounds like "Pitchi" is a cursed word in my language so it was quite hilarious to hear this in there. :D

Eva Jánosdeáková

Wow I wasn’t expecting this post. This is amazing! I love the name Parli! Like, to talk. That’s so funny and clever. I will say the only thing that mildly bothered me was that I noticed there was a lot of “i” sounds. They were saying things like bacci, fuchi, bicci, etc a lot and that made it sound a little repetitive/redundant for me personally. But honestly the work y’all put into it shows, it sounds really cool and seems like it fits well overall. Great job!! And thank you for showing us :)

fairlyBread

Honestly, I think you two did such a good job voicing the characters! I loved it ♥️ And I think you nailed the simplicity. It’s interesting to hear that almost every word ends with “i”. Kind of fits the language’s name “Parli” ^^

chantal99

Currently, the hair physics works when you rotate the character in the Paramaker or when the character turns around in live mode but it could still be improved so that it moves when the character rotate their head You can see our hair physics here: https://twitter.com/ParalivesGame/status/1466475024831897601

Alex Massé

Amazing work!

Julio Saliba

Aw I love how they sound! It's endearing and different.

Samari Prime

Thank you so much! We are still discussing how we could include the chat bubbles and how it could work with the conversation gameplay! :)

Gab (Paralives)

I believe they said before there would be so maybe it isnt implemented yet

Court12413

To me it sounded like it could have been an actual language from some tropical island somewhere. I LOVED IT! It was also easy to tell, both from the sounds of the voices and the physical reactions, what type of conversation they were having. I am always so excited to be a supporter of this game and this makes it even better!!

Jennifer Huber

Parli is a lovely name and wow it really does sound like a real language. All the research you guys did is amazing.

Tinsley

If I'm reading the chart right, it's got similar vowels. A couple of the phrases sounded like Japanese words for the same reason.

BonaparteBardithion .

Okay thats pretty cool. It sounds like it could really be a real language. I love it

Court12413

Omg! Love love love love ❤️

breah

Read now that these recordings are only temporary demos and they will be recorded by voice actors later. Wouldn’t at all mind having these as two of the voices though! Sounds very nice and natural!

BekkiRoss

Parli sounds so cool! It reminds me vaguely of japanese, spanish, portuguese, as well as some native languages in South America, or tupi-guarani. I noticed most words sem to end in "i" or "ee", which seems like a cool quirk. I'd love to hear some more variety, though. Overall, I really like Parli, can't wait to hear more of it in game! :)

Mauro Fantin

it sounds fantastic! thank you for sharing! though one thing I have to say is how amazing the paras look. like the artstyle is perfect and I love the outlines they have. it really comes together when looking at the paras at a distance like this which would be normal for gameplay :)

Kasia

I love it! I love that they seem to speak with specifically non-English accents - it's reminding me of a mix between romantic and Polynesian languages. By contrast, Simlish very much sounds like Americans speaking nonsense.

All-Natural Fig Jam

It sounds like a mix of French and Spanish gibberish. It’s so cute, like I’m in love! The name Parli is perfect. Also the guy parafolk looks like the NBA player Chris Paul to me 💕

Simmons

Parli! I love it!

Kieran Wade

I love the sounds of their conversation. It sounds organic. I'm curious about something I saw in the video. This may have been addressed before and I don't remember, Will there be any hair physics? I noticed the woman parafolk's ponytail doesn't move.

Chase Belcik

Wow! Great work! Every update makes me want to play this even more! Can’t wait! 🤩

Susanna Kiintonen

This is very exciting! Keep up the great work!

Charmen Young

I honestly don't even know what to say. Completely speechless (unlike the parafolks 🤪)

Sara Rocha

Will we have a couple words that have meaning, such as "sul sul" in the sims meaning "hello" ?

Andrew Boylan

Amazing work guys 👏

Hilmi

Yay! Sounds cool!

ari 🧸

Maybe, but I do love it! Sounds adorable.

Kiya Averhart

i just wrote about that in the paralives discord. :D

Stewby

As someone that studies empirical linguistics I am incredibly impressed! I didn't expect the language to go that deep. But you even used the IPA 🥺 Very very good work and the language sounds very cosy and pleasing!

Nils Henrik

I’m obsessed w this and all of you (i’ve been liking all the patreon posts from the beginning the past couple days lol) so cool to see the development !! you guys have come such a long way and it’s so freakin cool getting to read abt all of it. much love and keep up the amazing work <33 PS parli is adorable

Tatyana

i cannot describe how amazing this is. Andrei, you are phenomenal and such a great member of the team. Awesome and so exciting. Cannot wait to hear more parli in the future. :)

Stewby

love it!

Giuseppe Sammatrice

Also, I love their voices! Fit so well with the game!

BekkiRoss

This looks so amazing!!!🌟🌟🌟 I love seeing the build mode and parafolk meet, the game looks beautiful as is, but I wouldn't mind any improvements. I like that the language sound like it could be a real language, if that makes sense 💓

Sola Ngalim

I also definitely heard 'cup of tea' in there somewhere. Time to put the kettle on!

Charlotte Stevens

Yooooooo oh my goodness 😍😍😍

Alicia

V nice!

Charlotte Stevens

Wow I love it!! 😍😍

BekkiRoss

This is absolutely fabulous 🤩

Paige Fletcher

I love this!

Kyle Austen

I love this!

Ivan

I don't know why this sounds a bit like Spanish to me. 😂

Kiya Averhart

Amazing! So expressive. Love the emotion that comes through in the audio and animations. Any thoughts on speech bubbles with symbols to express different interest topics or reactions?

Michael
