So Many Ways to Sit + Integration of Steam Features

Different Ways to Sit in Paralives
In Paralives, just like in real life, people will often be sitting. We thought it was important to support many ways of doing it because it will be a common action and it can show personality.
So many ways to sit!
- Sebastian casually sitting on the arm of the couch
- Maggie sitting in a standard fashion
- Eli being a child and goofing around
- Marvin sitting just like Maggie
- An anonymous Para sitting on the floor with their legs folded on the side
- An anonymous Para sitting on the floor with the legs in front
All these sitting animations are dynamically adapted so that characters of any height can sit on object of various elevation, like Anna explained in a previous Patreon post with this image:
How different characters of different heights use the same animation that we dynamically adapt to avoid any issues.
Steam Workshop, Steam Cloud Save and Steam Achievements
Étienne is currently working on various features that you will be able to enjoy when the game releases on Steam in the future.
Steam Workshop
In Paralives, it will be very easy to share houses, characters, mods and other types of custom content with other players. What will enable this is the Steam Workshop, a place where you can navigate and search for content and add it to your game in one click!
The Steam Workshop page for Cities: Skylines. Search and browse content then simply press the green “+” button to add something to your game. This is exactly how it will work for sharing and installing custom content and mods for Paralives.
Steam Cloud Save
When enabled, this handy feature offered by Steam and that we have now integrated in Paralives backs up your save game in the cloud automatically. This means that if you have multiple computers, you can switch between them and you will be able to resume your game where you left off on your other computer, without having to manually transfer the file or do anything yourself! It’s also useful if your computer breaks down and you forgot to back up your save files.
Steam Achievements
Achievements are specific goals that the game will offer you to complete. Steam will list these achievements so you can compare your progress with your friends who are also playing Paralives. Étienne managed to make the system working with two test achievements already functional. We’re looking forward to having all sorts of goals for all play styles!

For example, here are some achievements we might add to Paralives eventually:
▶ Play through 3 generations of Parafolks
▶ Accumulate 1,000,000 Paradimes
▶ Make 5 new friends in a single day

Would love to see parafolks sitting cross legged, on both the floor and on furniture!! This is how I most commonly sit in real life haha

2023-02-12 03:52:33 +0000 UTCwould love to see paras sit on the floor with their legs crossed like sims 2 and would love to see some different positions when sitting like crossed legs on couch or one leg up on couch etc i think it would bring alot of personality to the character showing weather they were in a more relaxed mood or sitting very structured for a business interview for example

Could you add cc through the game files? Apologies if this is a dumb question haha, I'm not too experienced with game development, modding, etc.

Also, one of my favourite D&D player (Marisha Ray) likes to sit on a chair in a perching manner, with feet on chair and knees bent. I do like that position Eli is in! As for achievements, I'd like to see ones for failling a certain amount of times. XD Also make sure to include easter egg ones or things that are obscure.

Then again I haven’t tried this since I was 10 so idk if it’s possible 😅 Can Paras still sit on counters like we saw at some point? I would also love if they could sit on the floor or their bed cross-legged, I often do that and its great for reading because your hands are free! PS: cant wait to unlock an achievement for having my Paras fall asleep inadvertently a 100 times because I didn’t watch their energy bar

2022-10-30 15:36:35 +0000 UTCthanks you so much for sharing your progress! i have a question about the sitting position (sorry if this is super obvious 😅) - will paras sit down in a random way when you select "sit" on an object? or will you be able to click something like "sit cross legged"? or will the sitting style depend on their mood/personality/etc. (e.g. a tired para will always sit down slumped and resting their chin on their hands)?

2022-10-29 17:33:17 +0000 UTCOooh, I love the different sitting positions! Could there also be an option for sitting cross-legged on both the floor and on seats, especially couches? I tend to automatically sit cross-legged myself because it is one of the most comfortable and stable positions for me. Even if only children/young parafolk could sit cross-legged on both seats and the floor, while older parafolk can be cross-legged on the floor. (I understand that may cause clipping issues between the characters and the seats though.)

If you go on YouTube and search for "The Sims 2: 50 FUN LITTLE DETAILS not in Sims 3 & Sims 4" by "onlyabidoang " you'll see what I meant at 4:46 and at 7:18. It's where I got the idea to suggest it for Paralives. Not to mention I'd LOVE to have all those details for Paralives!

In the future I'd love to hear more about what your superpowers are in this area (about TOU, for instance, or simply categories/tags). As I'm almost always sitting nervously at the edge of my seat (never as comfortably as Maggie and Marvin !), I expect some additional sitting poses/animations in the Workshop XD How does the Cloud save work if your internet connexion isn't on, or is unstable ?

I can't wait to be able to play it. I already know that paralives will be my favorite game for a long time. thank you for involving us and sharing with us the development of the game.

Eli is my favourite (as someone else said, I would love to see adults doing that too. maybe not elders though). :D Achievements: I think I had done something like this in the discord before but can't find it (only 103 results for stewby and achievements which is not bad). :P Achievements: shockingly, I would like a perfect para achievement... could always be at every life stage (maybe that would be too much).

2022-10-28 15:44:06 +0000 UTCI like some of them but I am also hoping for a memories system... so some of these I would class as memories as opposed to achievements. - one for each type of death - memory. - one for when you have completed all death types - achievement. - for playing through 10 generations - achievement. - getting fired from a job - memory. -getting promoted - memory. - top of their career - achievement. - one para have more than 5 different careers - memory (top of five careers = achievement). - getting a romantic partner - memory. - having more than one partner at once - memory. - one para having more than 10 romantic partners - memory. - having a child - memory. - getting married - memory. - playing a para from birth to death - achievement. just my opinion though. memories would be in-game where as achievements would be in the steam system. :)

Maybe one Para sitting and another laying with their head on the sitting para's lap. Thank you for the cloud save feature. I love the idea of having my saves everywhere.

It would be kind of fun to see different sitting styles tied to different traits or moods, kind of like the walking styles in the sims 4.

As a statistics nerd, I love to look at global achievements, so if possible, it would be amazing if certain achievements were blocked if you use certain cheats (just the ones that would make it much easier). That way I can still use the statistics of the global achievements (because they don't mean much if people can easily cheat the achievements). Also - I can't believe the attention to detail you put into it, having multiple ways to sit!! That's so amazing!!!

It was quite the topic of discussion for the sims and I'd like to know more. Will they be able to sell them? Will it be allowed? If they create their own mesh from scratch, can they profit peacefully from the people willing to pay for their work to be integrated in your amazing game? :)

It’s been so so much fun watching the progress of the game and just being excited every step of the way! Even bugs are fun to watch, as they just confirm progress and I appreciate how transparent you’ve all been this entire time!!!!
