The Paralives Office
Added 2020-01-16 14:55:55 +0000 UTCHi!
This week, we thought it could be nice to show you where we work, not in the para life but in real life! For now, the office is really small since it's only Roxane and I. Léa is working from home at the moment but will join us later! We might have to move to a different office when the team grows larger.

The table on the left is my desk and Roxane's desk is the right one. Our setup is pretty simple, we both use a Windows desktop computer with two screens. Roxane also has a Wacom Intuos drawing tablet to sculpt 3D models and draw textures. Oh, and we have some plants too! And no, I won't play something for you on the guitar, I'm not confident enough about it :D
That's it for our setup and hardware. As for software, we are making the game using the Unity3D engine so we work with it daily to add new features into the game and test them. The programming language is C# and I use Visual Studio to edit the code. On the art side, Roxane and Léa are using Blender for 3D modelling and sculpting. To create the textures of the models, they use Photoshop and Substance Painter.
I hope you liked that glimpse into our daily life working on Paralives and have a nice weekend!
Alex :)

Thank you for this insight to both of your office, it's cute and small (in a good way)
2020-05-24 06:32:42 +0000 UTCAlex, I'm a programmer too and your office is 100x better than mine. :D
2020-05-11 05:56:00 +0000 UTCSo wonderful to learn about! I'm a computer animation major and we mainly use Maya 😊

2020-02-06 19:17:05 +0000 UTCWhen you plan on growing your team, how will you hire? I have a sister who's a programmer who's heart is in indie game development and a boyfriend who is an animator! Where would I point them to apply?!
2020-02-04 22:10:59 +0000 UTCNice

2020-01-19 22:47:37 +0000 UTCYou all are doing a fantastic job! You even have EA noticing because after YEARS of being told about issues, they ignored them until now. You're really making a big difference and you should be proud of yourself and your team (:

2020-01-18 02:34:16 +0000 UTCI love that you shared this kind of things with us, its a nice cozy office and cool guitar btw.
2020-01-18 02:31:06 +0000 UTCHi Cláudia! Thanks for the suggestion! It's really close to what we are trying to do at the moment: a post on Patreon every week to talk about progress, development, early look at a feature, polls, development life, etc :) So we're trying to post every week but not necessarily at the same time every week

2020-01-17 14:32:51 +0000 UTCHehe, that could work!

2020-01-17 14:30:48 +0000 UTCBest of luck to you Zoe! I started making games on the side while studying in computer science. Just making small projects on evenings and weekend. I think it's a good way to get into it! There are a lot of Unity tutorials and game design videos on Youtube, that helps a lot too :)
Alex Massé
2020-01-17 14:30:10 +0000 UTCYes, we will need an animator to create all the human and pet animations :)

2020-01-17 14:27:55 +0000 UTCOhhh! That's an amazing idea! I might just do it! Thank you, haha

2020-01-17 14:27:09 +0000 UTCIn order to make Patreon more dynamic and attractive, it would be cool to have a schedule, in which you post for example every Monday or every Friday. I say weekly because I think it is important that people feel like they are getting content for the money they pay. It doesn't have to be something big every time, but just a reminder that we are not forgotten and that the game is still in progress. I think it's an important tool to keep people excited (thus to keep people subscribed) and to attract new Patreons. It could be about actual development every two weeks and about other aspects related to game creation in the other two weeks, for example, polls, pictures, anecdotes that happened at work, stories (how you came up with different ideas for the game), rituals you have etc.
2020-01-17 08:53:32 +0000 UTCThank you for sharing. It's interesting to see how you work. Love how simple your office is. :)

2020-01-17 05:30:52 +0000 UTCI really love the wood logs on the shelves, there's something both warm and minimalist about it ! Sidenote but this made me think about what could be a symbol of Paralives. Obviously not a wood log :P ...although, why not XD But like, a lot of games have somewhat of a mascot (Vault Boy) or a shape (the plumbob) that says "hey, it's THAT game" without having to say the name. Thoughts ?

2020-01-17 03:37:00 +0000 UTCNot sure if you'll see this but I've been curious, how old were you when you started game design? I find it seriously impressive you're in your early twenties and doing stuff like this already. Seeing you doing this at such an early age really inspired me to take some classes at my college in game design as I would love create my own games someday. Best of luck on paralives!!!!

2020-01-16 22:36:10 +0000 UTCVery interesting to know, especially on what software you use to make the game! When the time comes, the game will certainly need animations, will you hire any animators in the future (Not that I am any sort of animator, I’m just curious)?

2020-01-16 22:06:43 +0000 UTCThank you for sharing Alex!!! The only things missing......a Dogo portrait framed on the wall and the real Dogo (I assume there is one :)) lounging on the floor between your desks. LOL Many thanks for the peek behind the Paralives creation!! Blessed be creators!!

2020-01-16 16:49:04 +0000 UTCIt's an Intuos pro. I like it, though it's driver had memory management issues in the past.
2020-01-16 16:47:12 +0000 UTCWhich Wacom Intuos tablet does Roxane use? And does she like it?
2020-01-16 16:27:33 +0000 UTCSame, haha!

2020-01-16 16:03:36 +0000 UTCIt's wonderful to see your small studio before it grows. And to know what language you're using - by far the best news I have heard about this project. I'm even more hopeful that we will get the mix of TS2 and TS3 that I really hoped for in years past. Best wishes to you all.

2020-01-16 16:00:11 +0000 UTCI love the calm set up, and geez little by little everyday (and I’m sure Alex works even when the ladies aren’t) this is a passion project!
