To buy or not to buy clothes
Added 2020-01-10 15:08:45 +0000 UTC
Hi!
This week, we'd like to know your opinion about something! It's about clothes and the way you acquire them in the game. Would you want all clothing to be unlocked and available from the start, or would you prefer clothes to be items that your Parafolks have to buy from a store or online?
On one hand, if all clothes are unlocked, it's easier to dress your characters the way you want at all time.
But on the other hand, having basic clothes to start with and then visiting the store downtown to purchase clothes you like could be a great experience. You could also decide to share clothes between friends if you like.
So please cast your vote and tell us what you think, it will help us a lot!
Please note that the above image is a quick sketch Léa did to put some clothing ideas on paper! :)
Thank you and have an amazing weekend!
Alex

It would be amazing if there were a second-hand store too, with the option to both donate and purchase new-to-you clothes.
2021-06-13 18:15:49 +0000 UTCMaybe you could select a couple of clothes from each catagory and add those to your wardrobe? The others have to be bought in a clothing store :)

2021-01-05 16:19:35 +0000 UTCShops and online shopping to buy clothes!
2020-10-16 18:38:12 +0000 UTCThat was one thing I disliked about the sims having all the clothes available. I want my character to work hard and earn the clothes.
2020-10-16 18:36:44 +0000 UTCsmart idea! brings me back to my youth with some online game that had a system like that. I would pack my character with everything I thought was cool so I'd have less to buy once I was in-game, haha.

2020-08-05 23:35:47 +0000 UTCWhen the sims (for example) went from purchasing wardrobe in stores to having full access all the time, the whole process was immediately cheapened and felt like a mobile game. Financial gains may be one of the only real challenges an open sandbox life simulator can provide. I think all clothing should be available when creating a new para from scratch (and you can set their wealth/the amount of outfits they come into the game with) but once they're in, they're in play and need to venture to the store for everything from then on.

2020-07-06 23:04:25 +0000 UTCThis would be amazing!!

2020-06-27 22:37:48 +0000 UTCI was just thinking it’d be cool if we could have this for furniture too. If we have mannequins for stores it’d be nice for paras to not have to buy the whole outfit but individual items from the outfits

2020-06-27 22:37:08 +0000 UTCI like the idea of buying clothes! But I'd love to have an option to have all the clothing choices readily available in some way, even if it's not through gameplay (like a "debug" mode, or an option to edit the Para in the Paramaker through a cheat)
2020-06-11 04:11:02 +0000 UTCIt would be nice to have a way to “favourite” clothes items, and have them in a separate section
2020-06-06 20:51:43 +0000 UTCBeing able to purchase clothes for specific events would be cool too!

2020-06-01 09:22:36 +0000 UTCJust joined so I'm late, but while I like having as many options as possible progression is also important for me in these kinds of games. If ya'll are able I think having every kind of clothing item available from the start would be great for people who want to make the parafolk in a certain style, but have variations be unlockable. Like have a leather jacket for example avaialbe from the start but you can buy varients that are worn or that have different shirts.

2020-05-25 00:32:30 +0000 UTCI love love the idea of being able to share clothes amongst friends! It could also facilitate interactions between siblings of arguments over borrowing things (as siblings often do!). It could also build relationships between para's when they lend each other things, or lose friendship points if they don't return it (or no consequence if you use a 'forgive' interaction!). I wonder if they could also re-sell their clothes once they no longer want them for a fraction of the cost, meaning they can no longer keep them, but would be similar to online resellers (though without a profit because I just don't think that would really work...) Just some ideas that this gave me that I thought to put out there x
2020-05-23 13:10:21 +0000 UTCI know I'm sooooo late to these posts (I literally just joined the patreon) but +1 for clothes shopping!! I'd love to be able to create different clothing stores - formalwear, lingerie, sportswear, casual, teen style, etc - and have my Paras go there. Also, I'd love if the Paras could shop online for clothes and have them delivered in the mail :)

2020-05-23 13:03:51 +0000 UTCI think everything should be accessable when you start with or create your family/para, but after that only some basic clothes are unlocked for free and the rest needs to be purchased. That would allow you to make a character with more than a basic personality showing in their clothes in the beginning without losing the realism of buying new clothes.
Smiley
2020-05-22 19:47:20 +0000 UTCI would love something like the Able Sisters in Animal Crossing
2020-05-22 13:17:58 +0000 UTCI think a happy medium would be best. I would like a good amount of clothes to start with when you are making your para but then have more stuff that you could go to a shop and buy. Perhaps you could have a similar system to animal crossing where certain clothes are available in the shop at certain times so everytime you go there would be new stuff.
Briony King
2020-05-22 09:17:22 +0000 UTCShopping is the experience, downtown and online! Maybe new clothes can be available to try on and purchase depending on the seasons or holidays.. return policy? Would be great if we had a tool to make clothes that would be available for everyone to shop so there can be so many options. Don't forget accessories like ties, belts, purses, shawls, scarfs, sunglasses, hats... underwear, swimwear, seasonal, formal, lingerie, sleepwear, coats, gowns, dresses, skirts, pants, leggings, shorts, jackets, sweaters... etc 🤩
2020-05-22 06:15:06 +0000 UTCI love that
2020-05-22 04:27:22 +0000 UTCIt would be really cool if there was a good amount of starter clothes when you first make your para, and then you could go shopping for nicer ones as you play. It would also be really awesome if you had some sort of feature where a few exclusive clothes are only available for a day or a week, and it might make people want to play the game more often. I’d also love it if when you go shopping, the clothes are seasonal (in winter, you can only buy winter clothing). Thanks! x
2020-05-22 04:26:43 +0000 UTCYes please! Best would be if all clothes were accessible when creating parafolks, but afterwards you need to go shopping if you want new outfits!
2020-05-21 19:42:00 +0000 UTCI too am late, and I'd love to let my PF go shopping and buy clothes and shoes. It could be a good way for PF's to create there own clothing collection or just to buy/sell clothes. On the business side, it's a good way to market to brands
Jasmin McCarthy
2020-05-21 19:39:20 +0000 UTClove the idea of buying clothes, but a cheat to have all of them would be great.
2020-05-21 19:11:41 +0000 UTCA little late to the party but I think it’d be nice to have everything open when you’re first creating your Parafolk and then once in game you’ll have to unlock more clothes if you’d like to customize/or have the option to toggle ‘hidden clothes’ (purchasable clothing) for those who want to make a Parafolk from some inspiration real quick.
MexiVenus (Juno)
2020-05-21 06:06:37 +0000 UTCI would like the limit on cloths so you can shop for them, but an option to use a cheat to also unlock all the cloths too
IdrilPuck
2020-05-21 01:39:13 +0000 UTCI would love it if, when you create how ever many starting outfits your paras starts with, all of the clothes and individual pieces of that outfit get added to your household wardrobe, so then you can create new outfits by mixing and matching the pieces you already own, so you still have some room to create new outfits even with just what you start with, but then you can also add more by going shopping, or maybe even by creating your own if they add something like sewing or knitting skills.

2020-05-20 15:29:50 +0000 UTCi love the idea of having the Paras actually go and buy new clothes. It's something I really dislike in the sims 4. you don't need to /can go out and do shopping anymore (at least not to my knowledge) and i would like there to be a bit more realism with grocery and clothing shopping
2020-05-20 15:18:24 +0000 UTCPurchasing clothes is such a unique idea that I had to actually sit back and consider it. Or Para could be a clothes addict or something, and there could be specific styles in everyone’s closet instead of everyone having the same set of clothes!
2020-05-20 13:09:37 +0000 UTCI think having everything unlocked to start with, and then if you want to change or add more later, you have to go to the shops!
2020-05-20 12:16:49 +0000 UTCLove the idea of having to purchase new clothes! This speaks to my shopaholic heart lol! As people have mentioned, having cheats to unlock clothes would be ideal.
2020-05-20 06:10:57 +0000 UTCBuying sounds awesome, but cheats would be a must to unlock stuff for when I'm not in the mood to work for outfits lol
Jessica Fauss
2020-05-20 03:18:41 +0000 UTCI think they need to buy it for SUUUURE, but it would be nice to have a cheat that unlocks everything, just in case we want to create townies easier for example
2020-05-19 20:42:40 +0000 UTCTotally agree with @HappymakersAcademy commentary! It would be nice to choose before start the game :D
2020-05-19 19:09:56 +0000 UTCIt would be perfect to have an option to lock and unlock all the clothes, for example, a question before the game - do you want to create a new sim and live a life, full of experience and challenge, or recreate a real person, with all the resources available? Or just two gamemodes, sandbox, in which everything is unlocked (or some options that you choose), including some debug stuff, stuff that you receive through missions and awards like in sims, all the clothes and infinite money. Just to create some big projects or recreate real characters from the movies and etc. And a second gamemode - real life experience, in which we have a limited choice in clothes and maybe even appearance, and limited money, maybe even limited objects, expanded through missions or challenges. Also, as people said before, it could be realized via cheat codes, however, one button to start sandbox gameplay - sounds really amazing. Like a creative mode and survival mode 😂😂😂
2020-05-19 10:19:36 +0000 UTCI think its really important to have things spend your money on in game otherwise what is the point of getting a job haha. Going to a store and buying clothes is something I have really missed in Sims 3 & 4. It was one of my favorite parts of earlier Sims games. Having everything at the start of the game is too easy and you have nothing to work towards.
2020-05-19 07:27:58 +0000 UTCI definitely want stores but I think it could be better if there instead were some exclusive patterns or places like thrift stores that have a randomized selection, to make it different every time you visit and could make you potentially discover some unique clothing pieces you normally wouldn't put on your para. If this poll becomes a thing, however, could there be a way to cheat access to all clothes just so that we can make our townies not look too basic?
LightDeficient
2020-05-18 08:28:17 +0000 UTCI think it's also be great to show, I don't want to say status, but basically status. I mean if your para is getting paid minimum wage it's not realistic that they can dress like a billionaire like in The Sims. I think it'd add a great element that maybe your para has to save up for that really stunning dress instead of just having access to it right away.

2020-05-18 07:26:01 +0000 UTCWill you be allowing custom content eventually? I like the idea of shopping for more clothes. I think it would also be interesting to be able to make cc and have the ability to run your own shop where you can sell the clothes
2020-05-15 19:05:17 +0000 UTCI think having a realistic shopping experience would be not only a great feature, but a point of separation between this game and the sims franchise. for instance, having different clothes available at the shops than the clothing offered in paramaker would be much more immersive. especially if different shops had different styles of clothes and different price ranges (as in real life), so a small boutique would have more expensive and detailed clothing, where a bigger store would have lots of cheap basics to choose from. it would also be cool if paras had a skill to make their own clothes via a sewing machine (they could order materials at the machine or online maybe), and even sell those clothes to shop owners to essentially become a freelance designer. as a player, I don't really see the point in going to the store if the items there are no different than the ones my character can buy at home.
2020-05-13 03:30:35 +0000 UTCYou mentioned "having basic clothes to start with" - it would be fantastic if when creating the Para we have all clothes and accessories to choose from, but that's their starting closet, and anything additional would have to be purchased.
Lane Brettschneider
2020-05-11 19:56:48 +0000 UTCWE NEED TO BUY CLOTHES DOWNTOWN JUST LIKE IN THE SIMS 2, ALSO CLOTHING STORES PLEASE :D
2020-05-11 05:54:13 +0000 UTCI would like the option to do both. Like having the normal game make you unlock clothes, but have a cheat to unlock the clothes if you want to make a rich para to start with. Does that make sense?
2020-05-09 23:04:43 +0000 UTCOMG 😍 This would be awesome to go the an actual store/ Mall to buy clothes. This would add up so much to the gameplay. I love the idea. Thanks for thinking outside the box!
Similicious
2020-05-09 16:01:47 +0000 UTCOne thing extremely lacking in The Sims 3 and 4, for me, is what to do with all your household money after just a short amount of time. There is only so much stuff you can accumulate before that gets boring. That’s usually about the time I get bored and start over. I like a challenge and things to work towards. I used to dislike having to purchase clothing in Sims 2, but then really missed it in the latter installments. I realized things like clothing and food magically appearing out of thin air takes out the immersion and challenge of the game. Maybe have a game cheat people can use to unlock all outfits if they want to have everything up front.
2020-05-08 02:53:16 +0000 UTCHow about making most of the clothes unlocked from the start but special occasion clothes (like wedding dresses, halloween costumes, pet clothes etc.) have to be bought at a shop or online when needed.
Trisha Feder
2020-05-08 02:40:23 +0000 UTCIt would be nice to have a good selection of clothes from the start! But being able to experience going downtown and buying clothes (would also be nice if there were different kinds of stores for different styles, so not all shops are the same (not sure if this is asking too much at this point)) would be amazing! Other than that, I am not sure if you'll be updating your game often when it comes out, but it would also be amazing if there were seasonal clothes that we could get from the shops too, like costumes for Halloween, Santa outfits and Ugly Sweaters for Christmas, Cute Bunny Ears and bunny outfit for easter, etc.!
2020-05-07 04:33:17 +0000 UTCI’m super late on this but it’s best if you give options for basic clothes just so we still have a basic variety to choose from
2020-05-06 17:04:42 +0000 UTCI have memories of being a teenager and convincing my parents to buy me the COOLEST shoes before the new school year, or the most fashionable shirts, etc. These could be very memorable moments for our parafolk! I think if incorporated in a fun way, with a user friendly interface this could be an incredible feature. I'm so excited to see the updates love how things are looking for this game!
Bree
2020-05-05 23:02:18 +0000 UTCI'm unsure of how often you go back and check these, or if you actually have enough time to read every comment.... BUT! I will say as a lifelong simulation game player, long- time simmer, etc. I hated the way shopping was in Sims 2, the clothes were boring. I think this concept is very interesting and fun, especially in an open world mall/shopping environment. I think it makes sense to have a few outfits to start out, and maybe not have access to EVERYTHING in the beginning. Some items must be purchased in the store, but those store items should be special! I want lasting memories, like buying a wedding dress, prom dresses, etc. I don't know how much time or how user friendly the shopping interface would be. Maybe have new items come out seasonally to keep shopping interesting? I feel if the same items are always available the space grows boring and useless quickly. You go once or a few times purchase all you want and never return, ya feel me?
Bree
2020-05-05 22:59:55 +0000 UTCI think being able to choose (if you want) your Para's style would be cool. As in, you can tag you Para to as "punk" and "eccentric". So when they go shopping, they'll have preferences of what to buy, and if you make them wear something outside of their style, they'll be uncomfortable However, I think if it were to be added it should be optional, and some clothes are "neutral", so no one dislikes them. Also, allowing for Paras to change their style over time and being able to change what is considered a certain style. Just a cool idea, but this is already looking amazing
2020-05-05 02:58:31 +0000 UTCI like this idea too! Having all or most clothing options available when first creating the character, but once you're actually playing the game you have to purchase them (there could also possibly be a cheat for users who don't want to purchase the clothing?)
Emily Price
2020-05-04 14:35:54 +0000 UTCI think it is important that the buying clothes action is fluid and interesting. It should be something we want to do. Like wearing a new shirt with the boss favorite color at work can help the parafolk or having expensive clothes can help in some domain. Otherwise we would always buy new clothes if there's nothing we can get from it.
2020-04-29 23:29:23 +0000 UTCI have an idea... At the beginning of the game, you get a lot of clothing options (though there could be some clothing-store exclusives) and you pick the contents of your Paras' closets. After that, you can't change it without going out and buying new clothes. Also, maybe there could be settings to change this, seeing as sometimes it's fun to just make a character without being limited. Just some thoughts!
Kirby Tardos
2020-04-27 03:44:29 +0000 UTCi misunderstood. but i vote for our paras going out and filling their closets themselves. because... i hate having to scroll through hundreds of items i dont even like just to find one shirt
2020-04-24 14:38:47 +0000 UTCIt will definitely be better if we have to buy clothes. I'm really looking for a life simulation and not only a ... Creative/personalisation game. And it would be so satisfying to unlock and get our folks better and better.
2020-04-19 02:18:55 +0000 UTCtest again
2020-04-19 00:40:53 +0000 UTCWould be great if you had limited money to start, like on the Sims, to buy lots/houses and had to manage this to buy clothes and everything you you need to begin the game. I think this would be great to create unique storylines, as you could start with fancy outfit but actually be broke or with just one pair of jeans and a tiny house but that in the inside is all high end.
2020-04-16 11:48:18 +0000 UTCHow about, when you create your para, everything is available. But you can create like ... 3 or 4 outfits and the rest you will have to buy? Like you can create a starter outfit pack but with a limited number of items? If that makes sense 😄😅
2020-04-12 09:07:06 +0000 UTCI think we should have to buy clothes, but there should be a cheat from the start where you can get all clothes if you put it in
2020-04-09 19:50:46 +0000 UTCI like the idea of there being a little challenge to getting clothes (having a wider selection during creation and then having to buy anything more sounds like a good compromise). One thing that gets me bored with the Sims is that it's so easy -- I just make things the way I want and that's it. That's the game for me. Making things perfect. And I'd like to actually play the game, not just prettify it. Having to work to get money and go out to buy clothes, interacting the with the world? That is a good incentive. :)
Beth Anne
2020-04-09 14:52:24 +0000 UTCPlease allow all clothes, but as soon as the Parafolks enters the world, all clothes should be for purchasing.
Jake Sae-Tern
2020-04-09 11:05:13 +0000 UTCI love the idea of having to buy new clothes, but as others have said it would also be nice to have a lot of variety when making a new para in PAM. Even if not *all* clothing items are available at the beginning, it would be nice to have enough that your para's personality could still come through (ie not exclusive to very plain/basic clothes -- starting out with a decent selection of aesthetics since from a storytelling point of view, the paras aren't just appearing out of thin air with basic clothes; they may have backstory so have likely purchased clothes in the past and developed their own style :D)
Aaron
2020-03-31 18:52:07 +0000 UTCI guess to have enough to start with and with possibility to create my own, buy from shops or online, get as gifts from others, I guess in a game like this we can also share clothes with close friends maybe, ... Think about real life scenarios and how an online community would behave.
Xinrong Ding
2020-03-28 11:03:42 +0000 UTCIt's 50/50 for me. It's really nice to be able to choose everything you want at the start but I agree that it was fun in Sims 2 to be able to buy the clothes afterwards.
Shiney
2020-03-17 23:45:30 +0000 UTCI agree that at the start it would be nice to have everything available, but after you chose your basic outfits you could go out and shop at a mall etc.
N00dlex
2020-03-17 16:29:41 +0000 UTCWhile I adore the idea of going out to shops and/or ordering clothes online, I think that having all the clothing options available when initially making your character would be really nice.
Lilith Grimm
2020-03-13 23:28:42 +0000 UTCAbsolutely love the idea of going out and buying clothes! I agree with beforementions about a similar Sims 2 style where you begin with basic clothes and shop for newer ones that you like. :)
2020-03-13 22:06:54 +0000 UTCI love the idea of going out and shopping, maybe something to do with your paramigos. Or even sitting at home and online shopping. But I'd love the option to have it all available is Paramaker from the start but later on you can go buy more options to have more saved outfit options. Kinda like in CAS where you can have multiple outfits for each category.
2020-03-08 00:44:46 +0000 UTCbuying clothes, if done properly would be sooo cool! it would be so nice to have something worthwhile to save up for:)
2020-03-01 19:36:07 +0000 UTCThis would be ideal especially after having multiple families and not wanting to buy and unlock the same stuff over and over lol
2020-03-01 17:51:32 +0000 UTCPlease make this optional. I hated this in Sims 2 :(
2020-02-26 08:38:57 +0000 UTCI love the idea of buying clothes. Maybe have clothes being all unlocked be a setting or a cheat, though?
KittlynM
2020-02-26 02:55:15 +0000 UTCI like the idea of both; being able to choose from all clothing to design my Para when I first create them, but having to go to the store to purchase more clothes!
2020-02-23 21:36:22 +0000 UTCI love the shopping aspect! It gives a more realistic feeling to the game overall and would add a fun new activity!
2020-02-23 21:32:33 +0000 UTCMaking all clothing options available from the start and then needing to buy more later (similar to The Sims 2) would be great
2020-02-23 13:51:27 +0000 UTCI love being able to purchase clothes! Would it be possible to have them with different price tags? =)
Hestia
2020-02-18 11:04:56 +0000 UTCI love the idea of buying them at a store! As long as a cheat is available to unlock all the clothes for people who will enjoy playing in PAM with less of the gameplay
2020-02-17 23:43:16 +0000 UTCI think the best would be a mix between the two, like in Sims 2. So have all the clothes available in creation, but if you want new ones you go buy them at a store
Camille B.
2020-02-15 23:34:58 +0000 UTCI love the idea of having to buy new clothes, if your Parafolk are poor then it creates more realism if they can't afford nice looking clothes! Creates more difficulty to the game that the Sims games lack.
2020-02-14 13:13:03 +0000 UTCI like the idea to buy clothes in stores! It would be awesome if you could add some of the clothes from player-modds to the stores in Paralives to, perhaps if you could choose to put in in the store or in the character creation when you add it to the game. ( And possibility to change the location for that item later to)
2020-02-12 17:07:27 +0000 UTCYes, that would be really useful and we might add that!
Alex Massé
2020-02-12 16:50:17 +0000 UTCHey on the topic of outfits, I've always found it weird that the sims 4 didnt have an option to create an outfit and then save it in the "create a styles". Is that something your team is considering?
2020-02-12 01:51:37 +0000 UTCJust to clarify, it would be hella dope if your character could go to work, earn in-game currency, and purchase clothes with that currency. Would mimic real life much better as opposed to in the sims where everything is always at your disposal, but if you want more CAS items, you have to pay real money for DLC.
2020-02-11 17:20:37 +0000 UTCHi! We are still designing the outfit system but we want to make it easy for people to create many of them :)
Alex Massé
2020-02-10 16:43:14 +0000 UTCHey! I have a question! Will there be outfit slots? And if so, how many? Because I'm someone who likes to make a LOT of outfits! And even mix and match the clothes in those outfits together in more outfit combinations!
2020-02-08 11:56:42 +0000 UTCYes, fake money, that's what I meant :)
Alex Massé
2020-02-07 16:19:50 +0000 UTCi think a basic wardrobe (like t-shirts and jeans and such) should be included from the get-go but trendier or more stylish pieces have to be collected via shopping or trading or hand me downs
Maya Appavoo
2020-02-07 06:24:03 +0000 UTCI hope when you say buy clothes, you don’t mean by real money. I think it would be cool if your characters can go to a store and the clothes they buy will be added to their wardrobe. But only with fake money that you get from them working. You know what I mean?
2020-02-07 04:26:58 +0000 UTCi think a mix of both would be best - so users have free choice to create and decorate their characters how they want, as characterization is hugely reliant on style and a lot of personality goes into clothing and it can be stifling to be limited to only one outfit. so allowing users to choose one outfit (per category? will there be categories?) with free reign of all the available options and to have more outfits, you have to buy them from then on out!
2020-02-06 19:52:07 +0000 UTCI love this idea because it makes the game more interesting and realalistic which I think a lot of us want. ;)
2020-02-06 09:01:21 +0000 UTCI personally love the idea of having to play the game to get more clothes! It gives you the motivation to keep playing and keep unlocking new content as it comes out, maybe have some clothing items behind achievements as well?
2020-02-05 16:42:46 +0000 UTCYES!!! Imagine a mall where you could get take away or buy clothes and just buy new objects and everything!!! 😍
Natasha de Beer
2020-02-05 13:25:53 +0000 UTCI agree with this!! Although I think having all clothes available in creation, and once you've started the game with them (only allowed 1 outfit choice at the start) you have to buy additional clothes, shoes, accessories, make-up. Would be awesome to be able to make our own shoe and make-up stores to shop in. IMAGINE a mall!!!
2020-02-03 10:05:39 +0000 UTCOooh, I really wanted to suggest this, but thought people would be mad that they won't have as many customization options when they start out. I think it would be nice if you could have a decent selection of clothes when you create a Para, create several outfits that you own, and if you want more, you go out and buy them.
2020-02-02 11:13:48 +0000 UTCI'm so happy to see that some clothes not available at the start. The Sims feel so boring because all the clothes are available and there's no desire to earn more money to go shopping.
2020-02-02 05:20:33 +0000 UTCIt takes all the desire out of shopping if I can get it in CAS mode. you get the outfits you start with then you have to buy more.
lis1273
2020-02-02 00:15:18 +0000 UTCI think a system like the Sims 2 is good as you had all the clothes to dress your sim with when you created them, so you could get their personality across, but from that point you would need to buy more clothes.
2020-01-31 18:12:45 +0000 UTCI'd like there to be the option to either have clothes for free or pay for them. If you pay for them, you're allowed to choose your Para's outfit(s) when you create them but only the basics (like one sweater, shirt, dress, top, vest, pair of trousers/pants, jeans and leggings/pantyhose and one pair of shoes) and if you want to add more clothes, layer items and/or add accessories (jewelry, hats, bags, etc) you can do that at a discount in the creation screen *but* the costs of them will be withdrawn from the Para's starting fund(s) from which they have to buy a lot/house. Or you can skip the extras, keep the starting fund(s) and then later, when the Paras are settled in the neighborhood, they could go shopping for extra clothes, shoes, and accessories. And for the players who feel like having to take their individual (or group outing) Paras out to shop is too time-consuming but they want the realism of paying for stuff, the Paras could go online shopping through which the player chooses the items, funds are withdrawn and Paras' looks can be altered (possibly with delivery of items or put them in your closet/whatever right away).

2020-01-31 11:55:55 +0000 UTCI like what the sims 2 did where all the outfits are unlocked but once you are done in CAS you will have to buy other clothes that were in CAS but are now locked.
2020-01-28 04:10:13 +0000 UTCI would have to go with option number 3: in the character creation let us pick whatever outfits we want, and every extra outfit would have to be bought, but also give us an option to toggle having to purchase stuff off for those of us who prefer not to deal with this limitation.
The Noobest Girl
2020-01-28 03:07:54 +0000 UTCI like the idea of buying clothes so long as there is a cheat that lets you unlock all of the clothes for free
Tom Lu
2020-01-27 17:28:45 +0000 UTCit would be awesome go shopping and see the parafolks on fitting room trying the clothes looking at a mirror before buying!
2020-01-27 00:53:39 +0000 UTCMaybe you could have access to most if not everything when you first create your character and then once you start the game everting becomes locked. Buying clothes would help with storytelling too. I try and to rags to riches on my Sims game and I always get stumped on price points for items, so actually having to buy clothes would make it more realistic.
2020-01-26 14:23:41 +0000 UTCJust saw someone on Youtube build a huge mall in the sims 4 and it's just so sad that it doesn't have any use in that game. So I'm all for the buying option
2020-01-26 11:48:13 +0000 UTCYES. yes in general to having to actually go out and buy things like clothing and groceries (it'd be cool to buy furniture that way too) I loved that about the sims 2. also there could be an option to order them online, and pay extra for shipping and have to wait a few days for them to arrive
2020-01-24 15:22:20 +0000 UTCI LOVED the shopping for clothes mechanic in the sims 2.
2020-01-24 02:08:17 +0000 UTCMaybe add a option to fix clothes and make them like object. Can be broken?
Bogusława Zajączkowska
2020-01-22 12:11:05 +0000 UTCI really like the idea of having to buy clothing!! And as other people say, have the option to unlock all at once with a cheat. But I also think customisation is important. Maybe you could go to a “tailor” once you buy the clothes to change the colour and texture? It could be an extra cost maybe. If not you could maybe customise it already when you buy it to make it simpler.
2020-01-22 08:55:36 +0000 UTCYes this is exactly what I was thinking
Simplicity
2020-01-21 18:00:56 +0000 UTCYes, that would make sense!
Alex Massé
2020-01-21 17:02:32 +0000 UTCShopping for clothes would be so fun! But I do think a cheat to unlock clothes would also be necessary. That, or maybe a menu option to opt out of having to go shopping?
MapleBurger
2020-01-21 14:52:05 +0000 UTCI would love for it to have a cheat where you can unlock all cloths at the start if you want but usually you have to buy cloths.
2020-01-20 18:35:00 +0000 UTCThis pleasee
2020-01-17 13:18:35 +0000 UTCThis

2020-01-17 10:57:20 +0000 UTCI would love for it to be similar to sims 2 where you create your para with a certain set of clothes but in order to get more clothes you need to buy them. I also love the idea of there kinda being certain quests to get certain type of clothes.
Stephanie Cutler
2020-01-17 09:29:24 +0000 UTCAlso I was thinking, aside from the obvious options like buying in store and online on the computer, you could have your para buy a subscription box that gets sent out every week with a random selection of clothes items. (Maybe this would be a good compromise for people who don't want to think about buying new clothes items for their paras)
Dizzardy
2020-01-17 09:23:54 +0000 UTCI agree with what some others have said, I think it would be nice to be able to choose between the two options. As a gameplay setting.
Dizzardy
2020-01-17 09:20:33 +0000 UTCI would love for it to be like in sims 2 where when you make the sims you can pick all but when you have moved them in you need to what els you need
Josefine Andersen
2020-01-16 22:13:09 +0000 UTCThe sims 2 was not an open world. I think Alex said Paralives would be an open world, so there wont be any load times.
2020-01-16 17:44:00 +0000 UTCI think it should be a setting you can choose. I like to get creative with my outfitits so having them unlocked would be very helpful, but for the people who like to play more realistcally they could have the option to go to the store to get clothes
2020-01-16 02:28:10 +0000 UTCI would love online shopping too. And buy clothes that are not available when you create your para. Also; expansive clothing? Like designer stuff?
Emma Wagemans
2020-01-15 20:30:15 +0000 UTCAnother advantage : family heirlooms. Imagine passing onto next generations some ring, or wearing your mother's wedding dress to your own, or even keeping a Tshirt your ex left before your breakup ? That'd add so much emotional value to objects.
ladyteruki
2020-01-15 19:17:45 +0000 UTCWould love to have clothing that would be unlocked through special events or career stages.
Vincent Paré
2020-01-15 16:01:46 +0000 UTCI would not mind having to purchase clothes, as long as there is a cheat code to unlock everything as well.
2020-01-15 14:18:54 +0000 UTCWould love my para to be able to buy clothing items! But, for sure think there should be a reasonable amount in the beginning.
CarlySue123
2020-01-15 06:00:55 +0000 UTCWould not mind having to buy exclusive clothes, but there should definitely be base clothing.
Kristen
2020-01-15 04:31:39 +0000 UTCi think it should be a combination. like there’s a large array of clothes at the beginning, but special clothes can be bought in stores.
2020-01-14 18:00:37 +0000 UTCOh, yeah, definitely would love to have to go Downtown and buy some new clothes, like it used to be in The Sims 2. But maybe, to please both teams, there could be a cheat or an option (in settings) to unlock all of them at once?
2020-01-14 11:10:52 +0000 UTCI'd hate it. If anyone has played Sims 2, then they know that you have to go out to a shop to buy new clothes. Depending on how fast your pc was, that could take 30 minutes just cus of the loading times and the obnoxious buying menu. Personally I'd rather have an option to buy clothes from a computer and have them delivered to my para's house so that I don't have to make them travel to a specific location for it.
2020-01-14 11:09:21 +0000 UTCMy para's need a reason to leave the house. Having the option to go to an actual in-game clothing store would be cool. Not like in the sims where everything is handed to you and beyond roleplay purposes clothing stores are useless.
2020-01-14 01:23:35 +0000 UTCI'd love it if the Paras could also browse clothes through fashion magazines and would want to buy it for themselves. But of course, if it's designer clothing, the price will be way more steep compared to regular clothing they can get from a not-so-popular brand. Maybe they could also shop from second-hand stores or something like the Salvation Army?
2020-01-13 23:42:51 +0000 UTCAwww, that's unfortunate :/ I'm not sure what is causing these issues on Discord
Alex Massé
2020-01-13 18:35:26 +0000 UTCYes!

2020-01-13 18:34:20 +0000 UTCThat's a possibility!
Alex Massé
2020-01-13 18:31:27 +0000 UTCYes, a cheat like that would be a must!
Alex Massé
2020-01-13 18:24:06 +0000 UTCThat would be a good thing to have
Alex Massé
2020-01-13 18:23:05 +0000 UTCYes, that would be a good solution!
Alex Massé
2020-01-13 18:21:06 +0000 UTCAlso I love the attitude in the sketch! Not to drag the sims because I love it... but sometimes when sims are just standing around they can look so lifeless. I really like it when they fidget or have attitudes. Skyrim was really good about giving NPCs activities to do (obviously theirs was on a track though and if you play a lot it got old too though).
Grace Sivils
2020-01-13 12:33:50 +0000 UTCI love the thought of a store but I also really like unlockables! It adds another layer to the game. Work outfits are great unlockables but I would love skill outfits too! Painting? You get a smock. Gardening? You get some garden boots and a big hat. Cooking? Chef hat!
Grace Sivils
2020-01-13 12:27:11 +0000 UTCI agree that while it is fun to collect the various bits and pieces through gameplay, that there should also be a cheat code to unlock everything - or a creative mode like Minecraft. If those methods exist then hell yeah let's send the parapeeps shopping!
ponyfhtagn
2020-01-13 04:54:03 +0000 UTCHi Alex, I am having major issues trying to login to my Discord account, keeps erroring saying something about me logging in from a new location and that simply is not true. I then click on the email they send me and the same thing happens over and over, plus I can't connect patreon to youtube either.
TnT_Terry
2020-01-13 04:33:01 +0000 UTCI'd prefer to buy clothes... it opens up a lot more possibilities imho (shopping for new items, getting hand-me-downs from older siblings, being gifted clothes, and of course sewing/knitting/dyeing your own), and is more immersive. Actually getting a "starter" budget would be my ideal : during character creation, you have a set amount for clothing & accessories. You can spend it all in one gown and wear crappy torn clothes the rest of the time, or you can balance it between different types of outfits, or anything in-between. It is, afterall, what happens for your living situation : you can't move into a manor on day 1 (cheat codes aside). Why would you afford haute couture on day 1 ?
ladyteruki
2020-01-13 00:14:55 +0000 UTCYou need to buy clothes but there should be a cheat to get all clothes
2020-01-12 17:17:47 +0000 UTCI think it would be fun to start with basic clothes, then as they advance in their career (assuming there will be jobs) you can shop and dress the part.
2020-01-12 13:48:02 +0000 UTCIt would be amazing to purchase clothes in the store. And even more amazing if you could purchase clothes depending on the season. :) But maybe there can also be a cheat, that unlocks all clothes for anyone who doesn't want to play this way. ^^
ESW
2020-01-12 09:42:20 +0000 UTCI would like if they started out with one outfit each for different scenarios like depending on what the season is. But if they want more clothes then I want them to have to go shopping either in a store or buy clothes online with a computer. Would be great if the clothes had different price points too.
2020-01-12 05:19:31 +0000 UTCSo like a clothing store in the game??
2020-01-12 04:33:20 +0000 UTCI would say start with basic clothes and buy more and then your parafolk and go to a shop and try them on!!
Laura Burchart
2020-01-12 01:18:48 +0000 UTCI think we should be able to choose one outfit from all the clothing, for cold, hot ect. And then we have to buy the rest, and there could also be a cheat code to unlock all the clothes
James Ashby
2020-01-12 00:12:10 +0000 UTCI think in store with a possible cheat code to unlock them
James Ashby
2020-01-12 00:05:49 +0000 UTCI'd like for clothes to be purchasable, but I'd also like a cheat to unlock them all similar to bb.ignoregameplayunlocksentitlement :)
2020-01-11 23:28:48 +0000 UTCIf you have to go shopping for clothes, it would be nice to have an option to shop online with the clothes coming in the mail the next day. This could be a good compromise for people who want all the clothes unlocked.
2020-01-11 22:19:10 +0000 UTCThis is something that I hate in the sims. I would have loved if my sims had to work for their clothes.
2020-01-11 19:10:52 +0000 UTCIf there will be different "worlds" or towns, I think it would be interesting if each downtown of each world had clothing unique to the aesthetics of the town, kind of like Pokemon? For example, a more desert-like town will have crop tops, sandals, etc.
Elen Pink
2020-01-11 19:02:56 +0000 UTCI like that idea a lot. Especially parafolk making their own clothes. That could actually be a job, like a seamstress or a fashion designer.
Kendra Roberson
2020-01-11 18:19:49 +0000 UTCThe immersiveness of having to shop for clothes sounds amazing, but I would add my vote for having a toggle to get a sandbox mode (also - could we then see pre built clothes/furniture stores in game? Maybe community built?)
2020-01-11 17:57:09 +0000 UTCIt'd be very immersive to be able to shop for them!
2020-01-11 17:32:21 +0000 UTCI would prefer all clothes to be unlocked when first making paras but then have to purchase new clothes
Mark Coughlan
2020-01-11 17:24:59 +0000 UTCAh oh no :( Will there be a cheat or something to unlock all clothes immediately?
2020-01-11 16:47:18 +0000 UTCI really enjoyed this particular function in the sims 2, for me it added more depth to the game in a realistic way. I like the idea of having a "basic" set of options at the start, then later on being able to buy "cooler", "fancier", "more trendy" clothes. Maybe instead of one store type, there could be a few clothing store types, just like we have? Also, the concept art at the start of the poll is SO cute. Absolutist love them.
2020-01-11 15:13:47 +0000 UTCselfishly happy that most of the votes are towards buying clothes >:)
Zinck
2020-01-11 13:37:43 +0000 UTCI'd like it to be kinda like Sims 2, where you can choose from all clothes when making your character, but then you have to go to a store to purchase new outfits
2020-01-11 13:24:13 +0000 UTCI'd love it if we could choose fom all available clothes 3-5 outfits for each outfit category (if those are a thing) at the beginning, and then have to buy more if we want new outfits :)
2020-01-11 12:39:33 +0000 UTCPouvoir acheter des vêtements avec l'argent du jeu, serait super et tenir un magasin aussi. Merci
Ludivine
2020-01-11 09:37:33 +0000 UTCI am kinda interested in both options for gameplay, but maybe also having cheats for full access with no purchases, that always feels more relaxing to me in Sims 4
TheDesignatedDreamer
2020-01-11 09:30:08 +0000 UTCI think it would be good to start with more than one option, maybe 3 starter outfits, and then buy extras later
David La Roche
2020-01-11 08:48:46 +0000 UTCAfter some thought, needing to buy/select more clothes is better option to cut down on time spent in wardrobe selection. with some cavats: an override/cheat available Outfits, once aquired, should be recolorable and savable as another outfit, without buying/going through store. Returnable/delete from that para wardrobe all para in household should be able to access everybody elses outfits via another tab or somethin Sharable/savable/transferable outfits between para.
Zuzakiin
2020-01-11 06:50:41 +0000 UTCI would like to have a choice of everything unlocked at the beginning with additional clothing needing to purchased later. I would also like it if there was some impetus for buying/changing outfits. Maybe the paras get sad or stinky or socially judged if they wear the same hoodie for days?
2020-01-11 06:16:42 +0000 UTCLove the idea of having to shop for them, but I'd like to have a broad range at the beginning just to start off with. Maybe if we reach certain achievements within the game, secret or uncommon clothes at the store could be unlocked? No matter what, I'm excited :D
2020-01-11 06:01:51 +0000 UTCI think it should be like Sims 2 where you can pick whatever outfit you want per category (if we're getting multiple categories; everyday, sleepwear, swimwear, etc.) when you first make your character, but once you're in game, you have to buy any extra articles of clothing. Also, I'd love the ability to purchase clothes at second hand shops for a discounted price (and maybe have the stock be limited and change daily, so you have to keep going back to see if there's anything you want), and even have the ability for my character to make their own clothing.
Akasha O'Connell
2020-01-11 05:14:07 +0000 UTCAhhh I'm really worried about this cause I love having all the clothes available, but also love the idea of shopping for them. Could we have the option for both play styles?
Piper Smiley
2020-01-11 04:31:26 +0000 UTCI agree with what some others have said. That at the start we can see all available clothes as a choice, but from then on we would need to purchase them later on in the game.
2020-01-11 03:41:43 +0000 UTCi like this idea!
2020-01-11 02:54:39 +0000 UTCI would like this! Maybe Like start with two clothing items from each category then you could just change the colors of the items until you go buy new clothes
S&M Gonzalez
2020-01-11 01:47:52 +0000 UTCI'm wondering how the sharing clothes idea will work as mentioned? Like loaning clothes to other paras? If so, it would be so cool if the clothes would disappear from the active para's closet then be returned at a later time
S&M Gonzalez
2020-01-11 01:45:13 +0000 UTCI think i prefer the idea of being able to choose between all or most clothings when making the character, but whichever clothes you do not choose, can be available for purchase in the game.
Vegard Myklebust
2020-01-11 01:44:37 +0000 UTCBuying baby clothes as a gift for someones baby shower would be super cute. Or like a "Hey, I'm pregnant" surprise gift for our para's partner. I also had this idea of clothing having different style labels. If my para's friend was a goth, I would know exactly what to buy them for their birthday. Of course I can see some limitations with that system, but it's just an idea. ,x) Also, what if clothes could get worn out over time as their used. It could give us another reason to stop by the shop from time to time. It would need to be a very long time though, don't want my paras to walk around in underwear. xD
2020-01-11 01:27:28 +0000 UTCI think it could be cool if at first we would get a chance to choose our basics from all the close and then later on we would go to shop for other clothes. That way each time we could create our paraperson the way we want (rich or poor)
2020-01-11 00:49:43 +0000 UTCJust had an idea, not sure how it would work: when you create a para you choose their 'aesthetic'. Options could be earthy tones, brights, pastels, darks, neutrals. The clothing that is available for free to the para would fit this. If you later decide that the para is done with their goth phase, you would have to buy new clothing (like real life). Also I would love a hand-me-down system. Most of my clothing growing up came from my older cousins (and still does).
Sabine B
2020-01-11 00:39:17 +0000 UTCI love the idea of buying clothes! I would like to see a range of basics (like the outfit on the left in the sketch) always available. No one has just one outfit in their closet. I always create multiple outfits for my sims so they don't wear the same thing every day.
Sabine B
2020-01-11 00:29:42 +0000 UTCI love buying clothes. May I also suggest three or more standard income settings from low to rich that you can start with different clothes unlocked. If I start with a low income para, my options are more limited. Middle income, I have a few more options at start. High income I have better/"nicer" clothing options (but still not everything). It helps create a story at start that matches better to the characters you play without having to cheat funds up or down. I caution, however, limiting clothing at start too drastically. Many who play games like this have different play styles, and some love designing characters or houses but not playing live mode. I'd have a cheat or setting so those may unlock all options if that's how they play so you don't lose out on a market of players.
Melissa Toothman
2020-01-11 00:19:41 +0000 UTCI'm pretty much in agreement with the other comments about at the start having everything unlocked or at least a lot unlocked, then new stuff is bought by shopping. Having tiers or types of clothing we buy for different prices would be nice. Like for role-playing certain types of characters. Even thrifting or consignment might be cool too!!
2020-01-10 23:55:12 +0000 UTCI totally agree !
2020-01-10 23:47:30 +0000 UTCI LOVE the idea of buying clothes in game. Hate to always be comparing parafolk to the sims, but this is something I have wanted in the sims forever. There's always been little life things I've loved, like watching my sims drive to work or make their beds. Being able to open up their wardrobe and have clothing and accessories that are THEIRS and being able to send them to the store and pick up new things. Ugh it would make me so happy. I saw someone else mention giving clothing/jewelry as gifts as well, that would be really cool.
74xworse_thanyou
2020-01-10 23:09:05 +0000 UTCI think an added option for this would be better. Or will there be some kind of money cheat?
2020-01-10 22:52:01 +0000 UTCIt’d be cool if we could have full access to clothes when making our parafolk and what ever outfit is what they have until they buy more too
2020-01-10 22:47:44 +0000 UTCI like the idea of buying clothes. I think this could fit pretty well with the seasons too. The store could have different things depending on the season.
2020-01-10 22:45:47 +0000 UTCYes! Being able to shop for clothes would be great, especially if it could be along the lines of Sims 2 OFB. Being able to shop for clothes online like from TS2's Monique's Hacked Computers would be a great option also. 🙂
2020-01-10 21:44:49 +0000 UTCbest of both worlds
2020-01-10 21:24:24 +0000 UTCexactly what i was thinking
2020-01-10 21:24:05 +0000 UTCPerhaps both physical stores and some way to shop from home, like online shopping or a catalog? Shopping for clothes sounds good but sometimes going out can be inconvenient. As well as specific stores for different types of clothes, like stuff for adults, kids, formal, lingerie, jewelry stores, and the like!
2020-01-10 21:19:01 +0000 UTCI think being able to buy clothes would allow us to use all the money we earn. Plus I feel its more realistic. Perhaps at the start we get a basic set of clothes and then have to work to get more at the store. :) I feel this could be the same for furniture as well.
2020-01-10 21:10:45 +0000 UTCI agree completely, clothes shopping, grocery shopping and it would be great if there was some kind of junkyard or second hand shop that you could go that changes its stock regularly to get some cheap discounted clothes or furniture items. Speaking of open for business, Sims 2 was the only game to get the store ownership right. I hope eventually something similar can be done in Paralives.
2020-01-10 21:08:01 +0000 UTCI only suggest that they do not be unrealistically expensive as they so often are in video games. Perhaps make them normal prices, but have designer/fancier outfits cost more lol

2020-01-10 20:54:44 +0000 UTCI mean just think about this guys, there is a whole level of story telling added here for all us live mode players out there! We could have over-bearing parents that buy their kids sucky clothes!
Haley
2020-01-10 20:26:46 +0000 UTCI want to add to the "buy new clothes" option. I believe that all clothes should be available in character creation but afterwards you would have to buy new clothes :)
HelenaHuman
2020-01-10 20:18:24 +0000 UTCI’d like to have clothes to start with then other clothing and accessories, and custom content clothing paras would need to go buy them at different stores in town :) I think it’d be interesting if accessories could have their own stores for things like purses, shoes, hats, underwear, jewelry. Maybe there could be reputations for different store like certain paras shop at certain stores or there could be stores known for better quality clothing items than other stores(this could be set with stars and controlled by players per lot).

2020-01-10 20:02:24 +0000 UTCI prefer a hyper realistic approach, buying new clothes, clothes getting dirt, worn... Hair growing, demanding a cut, everything applying a buff or debuff to your Paralive emotions...
2020-01-10 20:00:29 +0000 UTCI'm very happy with this community becuase buy able clothes is something I definitely want for realism and most people are leaning towards there, however can we please also have a cheat option where you can unlock all the clothes, sometime you want to just hop into a game and not have that restraint... Alex please see this
Crystal Diamond
2020-01-10 19:55:38 +0000 UTCI would love it similar to Sims 2. You can choose whatever you want to start with, then buy clothes in game. Also, owning a clothing store would be awesome (like S2 Open for Business).
Kahlia Foster
2020-01-10 19:30:37 +0000 UTCActually BUYING clothes in a life simulation game is a thing I haven't encountered in a long time. I'd really prefer to have an ability to buy clothes. If there is going to be clothes shopping then there could also be hairdressers, tattoo parlors (if there are tattoos of course), definitely ACTUAL grocery shopping and maybe even shops/malls similar like they were in The Sims 2 Open for Business. Speaking about clothing, what do you think about layered clothing? For example, having a separate shirt, jacket and coat on top.
Stermatical
2020-01-10 19:15:39 +0000 UTCI would love to buy only the things I want, and also the mirror/closet would be easier to load. Besides, I wanna shop!
Simday1
2020-01-10 19:09:22 +0000 UTCGoing to a store to purchase clothes is such an experience!!!! I think this could be developed even further.
2020-01-10 19:08:57 +0000 UTCCan you give us a 'sandbox' mode where everything is unlocked and money is unlimited?
2020-01-10 19:04:34 +0000 UTCi would say you should be able to create the character w all the clothes option first and then once you start playing, you have to buy clothes at stores!
2020-01-10 19:00:25 +0000 UTCI think it depends on the execution. I found it very annoying in ts2, but that was mostly because of loading screens, which won't be a problem in paralives. A cheat code to unlock all clothes sounds like a good option, though.
Lisbeth Kirkhorn Melsåsen
2020-01-10 18:55:02 +0000 UTCIt would be really neat if all the game made clothes were available but all the custom content clothes were the ones available to buy in stores and online.
Jasmine Perdigon
2020-01-10 18:52:43 +0000 UTCSo I would love love a creative mode like what most people are talking about, where everything is unlocked and ready to go. But for the way I play, having my character go out and purchase new clothes would be amazing!
2020-01-10 18:48:24 +0000 UTCI think it should be a choice in the gameplay sometimes I just wanna dress a character exactly like I want with as many options as possible and the other I like a challenge
2020-01-10 18:30:57 +0000 UTCI would love a setting that allowed for both! I can see myself wanting to play both ways
2020-01-10 18:29:13 +0000 UTCA creative mode is actually such a good idea omg
2020-01-10 18:26:57 +0000 UTCThere should maybe be a cheat code like unlockoutfits was for the sims and debug clothes. That way we can have the full selection from the start for story telling but can also have that dash of realism.
Perpecede Celequex
2020-01-10 18:26:22 +0000 UTCI'm on the fence. On one hand making charcaters is the main thibg I do/enjoy in the Sims and having it all right off the back, would be perfect! On yhe ither hand the other thibg I love doing in the sims is playing with the characters and living, out their lives. I miss the grocery store, theater, etc. type places in the sims 2 and 3, but at the same time I don't mind that they're gone. I guess it all depends on how much (or little) clothibg we get when creating a new character.
TheShaddowedSnow
2020-01-10 18:21:38 +0000 UTCLike a lot of people are saying, I think there should be a toggle for different styles of gameplay. I would love having my parafolks buy clothes in gameplay, but I would definitely want to have a free creative mode as well.
Eleanor Mosley
2020-01-10 18:21:19 +0000 UTCI love the idea of buying clothes. Could you have a cheat to unlock all clothes if people want to bypass that?
2020-01-10 18:19:04 +0000 UTCBuying clothes is something I really miss from the Sims 2 so I definitely want that. Also the outfits in the drawing are super cute and I hope they make it into the game.
2020-01-10 18:14:59 +0000 UTCI think buying new clothes is a really cool idea, but as someone who loves spending hours designing people in games, I think there should be a "creative mode" where everything is unlocked for people to play around with if they wish.
2020-01-10 18:10:26 +0000 UTCI love this idea! Tangentially related, but I adored having the option to go to a tattoo parlor in Sims 3 (Ambitions, I wanna say) instead of just gluing them on in CAS!
Draconicrose
2020-01-10 18:09:14 +0000 UTCI think it'll be kind of like The Sims 2, where you had access to everything when you first make your sim, but for the rest of the game you can only access the clothes you gave them in CAS unless you buy more. (IIRC)

2020-01-10 17:57:25 +0000 UTCI think buying clothes would be really cool but it would be great to be able to toggle the option off for people who don’t want to buy clothes.

2020-01-10 17:56:59 +0000 UTCPara!!! Not sim lol
Jacquelyn Buono
2020-01-10 17:54:12 +0000 UTCI loved how in sims 2 you had to spend money and work hard to get new outfits! It was also fun going and you REALLY had to decide what you wanted so you didn’t spend too much money. Maybe there can be some kind of cheat for people who do not want to play that way!
Jacquelyn Buono
2020-01-10 17:52:55 +0000 UTCI think having to buy clothes makes each outfit feel more special.
Barb Pappalardo
2020-01-10 17:50:45 +0000 UTCAssuming we could start with any clothes in the character creation, it would be nice to have to buy if you wanted additional outfits.
2020-01-10 17:44:26 +0000 UTCI don't like clothes shopping in real life, and I feel that much realism would take me out of the game. Ugh- too bad the majority voters want to buy stuff- such a waste of time.
2020-01-10 17:37:33 +0000 UTCI'm pretty sure someone already suggested it but checkbox "All clothes unlocked" would be very simple solution. It can be general option for all saves/families or checked once, during family creation menu, for every save/family we create
2020-01-10 17:23:06 +0000 UTCBy default, I think you should have to buy the clothes, so I voted for that. That will make the gameplay much more interesting! But I would also like a "Creative mode" that allows you to play with all the clothes unlocked.

2020-01-10 17:18:51 +0000 UTCOH! I have an idea! What if the online shopping store was like an in-game gallery type of thing? Where you could buy with in-game money, clothing and furniture etc that other content creators make! So they could set their price that they're selling it for, and you could buy it in game! That way, you know its a one of a kind piece and its very rewarding if you could save up your sim's money for that stuff
Kat
2020-01-10 17:16:09 +0000 UTCHmmmm, awesome question! I love the idea. I think that if we could have some basic and cute pieces of clothing at the start to begin with, and then the REALLY cool clothes and more complex pieces of clothing at stores/malls to buy later on would be really immersive! Maybe as updates to the game happen, you could add different clothing to the stores and switch them around like stores actually do, or maybe even allow content creators to be able to change and switch out older clothing for newer more updated clothing. Thanks for being awesome Alex, you've 100% got my support through and through!
Kat
2020-01-10 17:13:46 +0000 UTCWhat if you started off with a certain amount of money that you could spend in creation so you have access to all the clothes, you just have a budget, and then there could also be a money cheat for people who just wanted access to everything?
2020-01-10 17:12:10 +0000 UTCI think having access to a good closet selection of basic clothes in the beginning is nice so I can still have a good personalized character to start, but having to buy any in the future. Also being able to sell old clothes and have hand me downs ! There could also be a mall with different clothing stores, like a thrift store, a children’s store, a trendy store, a designer store, etc. Teens could also get jobs at the mall! There could be a little food court, maybe a movie theater, and other places Parafolks can go and work. They could even get a discount at the place they work at or sometimes bring extra stuff home at the end of their shift. I feel like it would make it feel super alive and more fun than just having all the clothes, and having a money cheat or a toggle all clothings cheat should be good for everyone :) Also I love the idea of clothing durability! Maybe there can be a sewing machine and once your para has a certain skill in it, they can make and repair clothes. Or you could send something into a tailor to get fixed or to get something customized, kind of like in animal crossing. As long as all the clothes aren’t falling apart constantly 😅 that would be super fun! Imagine a little kid asking their parent to fix their sweater or make them a Halloween costume! Cute 😊
2020-01-10 17:10:35 +0000 UTCBuy clothes from playable retail lots, not just rabbit holes or CAS mode would add to real shopping experience, and be more fun to 'shop till you drop'! Yay!! 😄🎉 Also, enable owning a retail store for profit.
tey711
2020-01-10 17:06:05 +0000 UTCBuying clothes in The Sims 2 was sooooo tedious. I'd rather have the option to have all clothes available when creating Parafolks. It allows for greater creativity and storytelling instead of having everyone start the same way.
Megan
2020-01-10 16:51:08 +0000 UTCIs it possible to be able to choose one outfit at the start (all clothes unlocked) and if you want to have additional outfits, you can buy more clothes in stores, have them in your wardrobe and can put them together however you please?
Zo
2020-01-10 16:50:18 +0000 UTCLove the idea of buying clothes. It adds such realism. For example, creating teens that are shopaholics. Also - great job to Léa for these clothing designs. They look so cute!
2020-01-10 16:49:31 +0000 UTCI love the idea of buying clothes! But just like everyone’s saying, we should be able to adjust in the settings menu or at least cheat to unlock all clothing - for creating purposes.
2020-01-10 16:41:41 +0000 UTCI second to this idea. Something like a sandbox vs. career mode.
2020-01-10 16:34:09 +0000 UTCI think that having to work to earn money to buy clothes is a great way to make the game that much more unique. If you do implement where you can "borrow" your friends clothes, could you put it so that there is a time limit and then the item would get automatically removed from your inventory and go back to the friends inventory?
2020-01-10 16:31:11 +0000 UTCBuying clothes could add so much more gameplay! If you decide to put tags on them like “cute”, “elegant”, “cool”, snobby paras could only want to be around those who also wear elegant clothes which could be super expensive brand names. It could also add dress codes to parties. A cool party needs cool clothes or else people just point it out. Additionally, being invited to events would be more exciting if you needed to plan your outfit in accordance to dress code.
2020-01-10 16:30:29 +0000 UTCNot only that, but the possibility of also being able to shop at different stores for certain types of clothing items is something that'd be really fun and interesting!
Mo Des
2020-01-10 16:28:40 +0000 UTCI feel like it'd be cool to have to buy the clothes after the initial para creation! This is especially true if "expansion packs" become a thing; if new clothing options are available with an update we could be able to purchase them at the store
Mo Des
2020-01-10 16:27:02 +0000 UTCI loooove realism! It adds another layer to things you have to budget for!
2020-01-10 16:19:08 +0000 UTCOnly realism! Only purchasing clothes
Kisica
2020-01-10 16:16:39 +0000 UTCI think having the setting for different starts would be best. Option 1: all clothes unlocked. Option 2: pick a starting wardrobe from everything, but have to shop for additional items. Option 3: pick a starting wardrobe from basic options (or from a budget) and buy better in game.
John Kitchener
2020-01-10 16:12:43 +0000 UTCI like the idea of buying clothing. It could add more storytelling possibilities and adds gameplay. It's a win-win!
2020-01-10 16:09:46 +0000 UTCyes this!!!!!
2020-01-10 16:08:25 +0000 UTCAlso, I'm loving the clothes in that picture!
2020-01-10 16:07:35 +0000 UTCI'd say most of the clothes should be unlocked from the start, but you should have to buy the more niche ones like costumes or some tuxedos
2020-01-10 16:07:11 +0000 UTCI think that buying clothes contributes to the game feeling more real. Also, I think it is more fun if the game isn't too easy and you actually have to work to achieve something. The game being too easy is what I think is the biggest problem with Sims 4.
2020-01-10 16:05:27 +0000 UTCHow about having the option to choose in settings? I really liked the system they had in sims 2 where the first time you design a character you get to choose from all the clothes, and then you could buy all the other clothes later. But I would also like the option to have everything available, so if its possible maybe give people the option to choose which they prefer in settings?
2020-01-10 16:04:38 +0000 UTCBuying clothes is something new and different
2020-01-10 16:00:16 +0000 UTCOptions, options, options. I think having everything locked by default is the way to go, but including a cheat code or even having a "free mode" in the options would be great. That way everyone gets what they want.
BreakingGaia
2020-01-10 15:58:09 +0000 UTCHowever if this is not an option then I vote for the second one . I hope we have a decent amount to choose from the start though as I like to design townies . :)
Megamusic
2020-01-10 15:58:09 +0000 UTCI would love all the clothes to be available but still have the option to buy stuff down town .
Megamusic
2020-01-10 15:56:38 +0000 UTCHow about both? The first time you design a character you get all the options, and then you have to buy whatever you didn't pick initially
2020-01-10 15:55:49 +0000 UTCReally nice features that what community want since ever can wait
2020-01-10 15:54:58 +0000 UTCHaving the option would be great.

2020-01-10 15:52:38 +0000 UTCYes! We really want to have stuff people would wear these days!
Alex Massé
2020-01-10 15:51:50 +0000 UTCPlease, if you're at the stage of designing clothes or you will be in the future, create more high-waisted jeans/pants/skirts. It's pissing me off that in the Sims 4 we have mostly early 00's low waisted bottoms no one wears anymore lol
Aleksandra Zgurecka
2020-01-10 15:49:56 +0000 UTCI love the idea of having to buy clothes! But also think it would be a good idea to have a ‘sandbox’ option in the game where everything is unlocked.
2020-01-10 15:49:41 +0000 UTCLOVE THIS!! pls make hair like this too!! a cute trip to the salon 😍😍😍😍😍
2020-01-10 15:49:11 +0000 UTCI'm conflicted as well, because I would like the option to have all clothes available to me when creating my Para. But having to buy clothes is just as cool, because it adds depth to the game.
Bianca J
2020-01-10 15:49:03 +0000 UTCA mix between the two would be ideal and more flexible for story telling. Starting off with any outfit you want (basic clothing may not be suitable for a snobby Para) and then buying more at stores (at different price points too) would be awesome.
2020-01-10 15:48:18 +0000 UTCI like the idea of everything being available when creating your Para and then have to buy clothes once you start playing.
2020-01-10 15:45:25 +0000 UTCI think having to buy clothes by default would be good, but only if there's an option/cheat code to disable it.
Anna Louise
2020-01-10 15:40:59 +0000 UTCI love the concept art!! 😍❤

2020-01-10 15:40:16 +0000 UTCi think when you initially make your character , let it all be open to you , and then once you’re in game , if you want new clothes or new outfits , you have to buy them . let there be an option to shop for clothes online pleaseeee
chanel moon
2020-01-10 15:39:06 +0000 UTCThere will be money cheats :)
Alex Massé
2020-01-10 15:38:08 +0000 UTCCreate a para is open but if you want extra clothes you have to buy them.
Gina Ayars-Ritchey
2020-01-10 15:37:08 +0000 UTCI think the Paras should have to purchase them from a store, however, I think they should ALL be available in “Create a Para” when you’re first making a Para, and I also think there should be a cheat of some sort that allows you to access them all without having to go to a store, for those who dont want to do it or who want to give an ugly townie a makeover.
It'sMike64
2020-01-10 15:35:51 +0000 UTCIt would be especially cool if you’d do seasonal clothes too! Like Halloween outfits, ugly Christmas sweaters etc 😄
Sdanwolf
2020-01-10 15:33:37 +0000 UTCSo then it would be like in The Sims 2 where you had all the clothes in the CAS but you could also buy clothes later in the game
2020-01-10 15:33:12 +0000 UTCAnd maybe get points for it!
2020-01-10 15:32:24 +0000 UTCif there’s going to be money cheats then i would love the option to have to buy new clothes from a store, bc sometimes i may wanna play in a way where i save up to get items but sometimes i might just wanna use cheats and buy all the clothes i want
2020-01-10 15:31:50 +0000 UTCBuy, please! Make the game as realistic as possible!!
2020-01-10 15:31:32 +0000 UTCClothing stores are elementary for the feeling of a downtown area or a shopping mall. They would be a bit useless without the possibility to buy clothes. It would be even better to restrict the offer in a shop (and visualize it in the selling rags). But maybe give an option or a cheat for those who don't like it.
2020-01-10 15:31:07 +0000 UTCThis is such a simple idea but really adds to the "realism" of the game. Love the idea of having to buy clothes!!!
2020-01-10 15:28:34 +0000 UTCI think being able to have the parafolks buy their own clothes can provide a lot of other opportunities in the game as well. Like if they’re going on vacation, they have to pack a certain amount of clothing, and if they don’t have that amount they need to buy more. Or if they have an SO that’s recently moved in, that SO could autonomously start wearing their partners clothes and vice versa.
2020-01-10 15:28:23 +0000 UTCI think it’d be nice if when making a new Parafolk, all clothing is unlocked (in the create a sim kind of thing for parafolk) but then choosing their like starting clothes almost, what they haven’t been put in, they can purchase. So you can’t put them in different items after creating your parafolk unless you go to the shop
2020-01-10 15:27:22 +0000 UTCI like the idea of having all clothing options available at character creation but then needing to buy other options at the store. Maybe if it's a particularly nice item, other parafolk can take notice and can give a compliment.
2020-01-10 15:25:12 +0000 UTCI'm with everybody else. Allow all outfits to be unlocked during "paracter" creation, but then you have to shop for anything else.
Maiden Minnesota
2020-01-10 15:24:55 +0000 UTCyou should be able to donate clothes if you don’t want them anymore
2020-01-10 15:24:45 +0000 UTCI like the idea of having some being unlocked and then being able to purchase other items at a store.
2020-01-10 15:24:32 +0000 UTCI think there should be a setting or cheat to unlock clothes if you don't make them all available
2020-01-10 15:23:50 +0000 UTCI think they should be created with everything unlocked and live mode should have few clothes for all categories (2 or 3 random pieces of clothing) so they could change sometimes, and the rest should be buyable in store.
2020-01-10 15:23:43 +0000 UTCI chose 'new clothes have to be purchased', but like some other people suggested, it would be nice to have everything unlocked in the initial parafolk creator mode, and then once you are in the game playing, you have to buy any additional clothes your folk might want to add to their wardrobes. It might also be really fun if you had to buy seasonal clothing like winter coats or bathing suits. It would also be cool if clothes wore out over time and had to be repaired and/or eventually replaced. I also like the idea of parafolk being able to share clothes, because in large families it would allow older children to pass down the clothes they outgrew to their younger siblings. So when a child ages up to a teen, for instance, it would be neat if that teen still somehow had their child-sized clothes in their inventory, and could pass them down to a younger sibling.

2020-01-10 15:23:42 +0000 UTCBuying clothes would be soo cool. I'm in love with the idea. 😍❤

2020-01-10 15:23:03 +0000 UTCyesss we should be able to buy groceries @hediye doan
2020-01-10 15:23:03 +0000 UTCI like being able to buy more later, I think it was in sims2 as well (can't say for 3). I enjoyed it a lot, shop for things then need to have a dresser to store them then can change in mirror and what not.
2020-01-10 15:22:41 +0000 UTCI’d like it if everything started off unlocked then whatever we didn’t pick in the start, we have to purchase later in the game. Would be awesome to have to buy additional clothes to expand your wardrobe. Would also be great to have this sort of feature for food too! Having to buy groceries is monotonous and a chore but it adds so much realism and depth to a simulation game.
2020-01-10 15:21:34 +0000 UTCI'm a mix of both, like when you first make your character you get free range of all the outfits and then you have to buy the rest if you want to change :) can't wait!
2020-01-10 15:21:09 +0000 UTCi think buying clothes at stores would be cool and have like a version of popular stores and maybe even have furniture stores too
2020-01-10 15:20:38 +0000 UTCI would personally prefer if I could freely choose what my folks wear at the beginning, but have it that you can get one outfit from each category and if you want them to wear something else at any point then you'd have to go and buy the extra clothes. Also system like that would work if there'd be later came way to craft your own stuff.
Maryathesecond
2020-01-10 15:19:53 +0000 UTCI like Teanna's idea. When you initially create a character, you have a full pick from all options for your starter outfit. After that, things need to be bought. Also, will there be different game modes? If there's a regular mode and a build mode, clothes need to be bought in regular mode and everything is available in build mode.
2020-01-10 15:19:39 +0000 UTCAnd having to get your hair cut and coloured even!
Teagan Holloway
2020-01-10 15:18:23 +0000 UTCI think it's more realistic to have them shopping for their clothes. It makes the game more fun as well!
Charmely Eenig
2020-01-10 15:18:04 +0000 UTCI agree with the majority here. I‘d like parafolks to buy clothes by default but there should be an unlock all clothes cheat code. An interactive stylist career would be fun. Imagine a para coming to you and requesting a total makeover for x paradimes.
2020-01-10 15:18:03 +0000 UTCYeah you could always have everything unlocked in character creation and then be able to purchase more than the amount of chosen clothes in game
2020-01-10 15:17:48 +0000 UTCAt first when I read your post, I was thinking have all the clothes in unlocked, BUT the thought of taking character shopping?! That sounds like so much fun. Great idea!!
2020-01-10 15:16:52 +0000 UTCif you want nice stuff you need to pay for it

2020-01-10 15:16:39 +0000 UTCI think that you could start off with simple, basic clothing. Perhaps you should have to buy clothes at shop / online - more expensive things like suits and certain heals / dresses / wedding dresses perhaps very expensive - in their own category? - Like Rory Currin's idea. Could even have designer clothes too And I like Nelson's idea of durability too. Imagine if you had a child that only wanted to wear his yellow socks - the smell - the holes - you could try convince the kid to let you fix (sewing) and wash them, or have to go and buy a new pair. I dont normally use cheats - but its very common thing most people want ^^ Thanks for the poll!
2020-01-10 15:15:41 +0000 UTCit would be cool if it was like the sims 2 where everything was unlocked during creating a sim and then any extra clothes you had to buy at a store
2020-01-10 15:15:17 +0000 UTCI prefer buying! It adds depth and experience. Hopefully you consider this also when it comes to food. I feel like we should have a wide option of clothing and accesories while we are creating the parafolks. Then life mode you have to go shopping. And you could have different stores with different prices. That would be great! So excited about this game! The amount of detail you guys are putting into it Its amazing!
2020-01-10 15:15:02 +0000 UTCI love the idea of being free to choose whatever your starting outfit is (even if it's only a couple of items that your Para has available at the start), then having to buy more clothes from shops if you want different things to wear. I'd also think it is cool if clothing stays in the family, so you buy 10 outfits from a store and anyone in the family can access those outfits (even 6 generations down the line, which is largely unrealistic but will stop the frustration of having to buy the same outfit again because the Para you bought it with has since died). In a sense, clothing lives forever and doesn't decay lol! But if you start a new family you have to start again with clothing. (However, maybe have a cheat code to unlock all outfits for those who don't want to buy them from a store and just want them all available at the start! Maybe even a toggle in the settings just to open that option for people and so you don't have to enter a cheat code every time?)

2020-01-10 15:14:41 +0000 UTCI think make it normal to buy clothes but a cheat to get them all available :)
2020-01-10 15:14:25 +0000 UTCBuying more expensive items would be cool. So you have to buy items, groceries and clothes instead of just having them. It would be a nice experience, and make the money situation more complicated. I’ve seen in other games the only thing you can buy with money is things for the house, so it would definitely be a good idea to be able to spend money to get different clothes.
2020-01-10 15:14:12 +0000 UTCI love this idea, but maybe everything should be unlocked in the creation stage? (Create A Parafolk? CAP?) Or at least have a cheat that unlocks everything ;P

2020-01-10 15:13:18 +0000 UTCI think something in between would be best. It should all be available at the start, but after that you have to buy everything else at the store. If you wanted to make a rich family, it would be awkward for them all to start out in basic t-shirt and jeans.
2020-01-10 15:13:18 +0000 UTCI think anytime you can give the player an option is always the best bet. I would prefer to buy clothes because it’s more realistic, but including an option/cheat to unlock all clothes or even just money cheats allows players to play either way.

2020-01-10 15:13:12 +0000 UTCI think having to buy your clothes is a great idea. Like maybe you can give your old clothes as hand-me-downs to your kids or younger siblings but maybe like i can imagine one rebellious teenager doesn’t want to dress up like their family, so they go and buy a bunch of darker clothing to stand out from their family more and maybe even pay to get their hairdyed as well. if we are doing a to be bought scenario, i think some interactions between the Parafolks like “i don’t like your style” or “recommend a style” stuff like that

2020-01-10 15:12:50 +0000 UTCI think we should have the choice of either, like if you wanna take the game seriously then have it so you have to go downtown and buy them or online, and if we just wanna have a laugh and not take the game seriously then have everything unlocked. What would be even better is if we could get custom clothes from the steam workshop

2020-01-10 15:12:22 +0000 UTCi think it’s definitely a good idea to have to buy clothes. When you start there should obviously be some basic clothes, and a good range of basic clothes, to dress them in, but i feel like there’s more sense of achievement when you’re able to buy a new clothing item, like you would in real life. Plus, you obviously have to buy furniture for a house, so really you should have to buy clothes for a person.
2020-01-10 15:12:00 +0000 UTCGoing out and buying the clothes would be a fun experience!
2020-01-10 15:11:48 +0000 UTC:O

2020-01-10 15:11:38 +0000 UTCMaybe starting with some basic options (jeans, tshirt, long sleeve shirt, maybe something a little more formal) and then diversify by buying other items?
2020-01-10 15:11:32 +0000 UTCI think it should be an option but it can be disabled for certain game modes.
2020-01-10 15:11:19 +0000 UTCDefinitely buy them, it would add something to the game. But maybe a cheat to enter to have them all available on the character builder?
2020-01-10 15:11:05 +0000 UTCi like the have to be bought option but a cheat to unlock all clothes would be nice too so we have to option in game :)
katdiane
2020-01-10 15:11:04 +0000 UTCThrow the option out there, you only have hand me downs for the beginning and it gives the parafolk more ways of progression overall
Team True Destiny
2020-01-10 15:10:58 +0000 UTCCan it be an in-game option? Or at least a mix, where you start off with a bunch of different clothes but you have to buy others?

2020-01-10 15:10:39 +0000 UTCI like the idea of buying the clothes IF we have a money cheat (voted differently)
2020-01-10 15:10:39 +0000 UTCI think there should be a cheat to unlock all clothes if you want to, but you should be required to buy them by default.

2020-01-10 15:10:38 +0000 UTCLove the clothing sketch ideas!

2020-01-10 15:10:36 +0000 UTCClothing stores and online shopping please! That makes earning and spending money way more fulfilling and fun!
2020-01-10 15:10:31 +0000 UTCYeah like big mama said, have to be bought by default but a cheat/option toggle to unlock all

2020-01-10 15:10:31 +0000 UTCI thought one of the main parts of real life that the sims misses is shopping. For food, clothes, etc.
2020-01-10 15:10:27 +0000 UTCI loved buying clothes in the Sims 2 it was such a a fun little trip especially if you took your kids and toddlers. It makes it seem more realistic.
2020-01-10 15:10:27 +0000 UTCBuying would be cool I think. But they must also have different pricing so you can buy simple stuff early on and then work towards the fancy suit etc.
2020-01-10 15:10:23 +0000 UTCI think have to be bought but can be disabled???
