Fire

Well dang... there are fires going all around us right now. We got the evacuation order, but I have yet to get a truck strong enough to haul and a  trailer big enough for 5 horses. We will take the miniature horses in our little truck bed, no problem, but three warm blood geldings and two mares... Anyways, I'll stay up all night watching to see if it crosses the river, and if so, I will tie all the horses up in the green meadow across the creek and stay with them until the fire passes. We are hit with fires every year now for the past three years, and watching my grandparents, aunt and uncle's and my parents homes burn down, I've learned that green grass is the saving grace.  My grandparents lived next to the people who invented "canelback" backpacks and everyone was always mad at the newcomers for having a green lawn, which the home owners association considered insensitive to the droughts California was facing at the time. When the fire came through every house melted, nothing left, and firemen claimed there were 50ft walls of flame and fireballs with exploding trees. The Camelback family slept right through the fire and their house was untouched, as it was surrounded by their highly controversial perfect green lawn, about 50ft surrounding the house in every direction... They woke up to a smoking wasteland. My parents house, their final retirement "Golden egg" flip house,  which was a 5000 sqft villa on a ridge in a neighborhood known as "Fountain Grove", all mini mansions, also completely melted, even the pool evaporated, however they had a 30' perfect circle of green lawn with a wooden gazebo at the center. Guess what.. the gazebo and lawn were untouched, while thousands of homes burned around it.
So I didn't dance for you today, I've been helping prepare the property for the fire, and we are lucky to have a 1.5 Acre green grass meadow that I will tie all the horses up in until the fire passes. And after this I'm moving North because I'm sick to death of evacuating horses every year! I'm going to have to spend our entire Sanctuary savings i was going to use to buy property up north to move and expand the rescue on getting a truck that can haul 9 horses. And guess what? I found a 9 horse trailer for sale in Monterey area! Of course it's $18,000, so I'll only have $3,000 left for a truck big enough to haul it, but I'm betting I can find some giant late 80s diesel truck that can go another couple years until my credit is good enough to finance a better truck. And there's always the chance that the person selling that trailer will take less. Anyhow, please excuse me, it may be a busy few days for me, or the fire may quell in the night and this could all be over by morning and I'll be back to dancing and story telling as usual =)
Please use your super powers of belief to imagine the best possible outcome for me and the horses, and our beloved county that keeps getting hit by these darn fires.
