Am I wrong to say that this is the first like... truly beautiful episode? I mean, by now you know that Chouji didn't really die, but the way they showed it was just... to me it was the best character send-off so far. If Chouji had actually died here, it would still have been a really good way for him to go. It had a really good message, strong symbolism, and just... really hit you in the feels. I was really weak at this scene, and I hadn't even really cared much for Chouji beforehand. Here we got to see him truly shine, both by showing his true strength and by showing more of his character. Because of that, it was even more believable that this was really his death. This episode here was when I knew things had gotten serious in the series. We've had death before, but not like this. Not to one of the kids. Yeah it was a fake-out death, but it was a damn good one! And you're not crazy. Chouji lost A LOT of weight after taking that final pill. If he hadn't built up all that weight for his body to burn through, that red pill would've absolutely killed him. It forced his body to burn up nearly everything he had. If he'd had any less to begin with, he'd have had nothing left. And oh boy that final blow to Jiroubou gave me chills my first time!
