XP Nexus: Grains (VIDEO TUTORIAL)

I had to record this in between the flowers cause u know what happens? I do rnd and then I forget all about it and i have to remake it haha. The amount of updates is vast lately and I barely catch up myself!

So here it is our first Xparticles new Nexus tutorial + how to render grains in new versions of Octane. Nexus is a new addition to xp that uses gpu acceleration. Its super fast and therefore art directable.

I will do some case studies over time but honestly all you need to know is this: https://insydium.ltd/support-home/manual-nexus/  as Bob does a great job of explaining things.

Have a great weekend!
T.

ps. see a project file attached.
For comparison with your systems, if you lower the particle radius to 2cm, it will give you roughly 900k particles. On a 3090 did 5-6 minutes to cache.

Awesome tutorial! thank you!

Arkadiy Grigoryants

Nice tip thanks! I would prefer a freeze button in change group modifier as the cleanest solution, but whatever works :)

Thanos Kagkalos

In order to stop changing groups per frame, you can also just Disable Change Group modifier on the second frame (or any frame you need). It will keep current particles distribution among the groups you have, but futher changing groups will stop

Andrii Naidonov

yea nice and simple. I ll do a vellum grains tut for comparison :)

Thanos Kagkalos

The constraints are pretty nice with nexus I was able to get some vellum grain like adhesion and tearing with not too much time spent.. it still gets a bit heavy when you want those detailed tendril like pulls.. the best grains I ever used were from storm a few years ago on a 2080 ti and I still always forget about RF even though it’s always been pretty good for liquids and grains. XP simply has some of the best and most user friendly modifiers for particles it’s hard to compete with the control imo. Where it’s solvers and speed lacks its control helps mitigate.

i d love me some xplosia on gpu that is a fact hehe. I think all are coming along over time! cheers

Thanos Kagkalos

Super clean tutorial! Be interesting to see how Maxon puts some pressure on XP to get their GPU sims released quicker (xplosia etc...) now that Pyro is out.

yes see attached plz

Thanos Kagkalos

This was Awesome! Are we going to get to see your project files for this?

Rob engel

glad u found it useful!

Thanos Kagkalos

thanks a lot!

Thanos Kagkalos

cheers mate

Thanos Kagkalos

thank you! I try to repeat bits and pieces in many tuts and this was a good excuse to talk about groups/data mapping again

Thanos Kagkalos

Extremely informative.

Benjamin Trancart

That fun one! Cheers mate!

Thanos Kagkalos

Been so stoked after Nexus came out, since i have 3090 too and now you are making tuts for that... fucking epic! <3
