First of all HAPPY PATRON DAY :)
According to Patreon, this is today, so a big THANKS to everyone for ur kind comments and support.
Secondly, apologies again for the lengthy tutorial. I think you will find it informative. Its pretty hard to showcase TFD, has so many aspects in order to pass the appropriate info to you.
That being said, explosia is coming shortly in a big series about XP :) Be a bit patient trying to make this as good as i can.
Again, happy Patreons day and kisses to all !
Hey buddy! thanks for the kind words. Yea 3.07 is really old! U need 2019 and onwards to follow on this tut unfortunately and there is no workaround that! cheers

Hi,
I was following along to this tutorial and all was going great until I tried to apply the image texture into the absorption channel. Is this a feature only present in the version of Octane you are using?
I'm running Octane 3.07-R2. If this function is only available in the newer versions of Octane, would you know of a work-around to create this effect?
Thank you!
Really inspirational and great content here!

Hello :) Thanks so much! Pretty default octane settings at around 400 samples (render was a bit slow). Very high density in volume. Resolution was 720p if i remember its been a long time!

Love this one so much gonna try that❤❤ but main i wanna know about render settings and resolution. Please tell something about that😊
Thanks

explain how things work and take long time is more useful than show us how you did it in fast tutorial, take your time in explanation we are here to learn not to take fast information's and run away :), big thanks again

I think RTX shouldnt be a factor for ur choice. Its pretty unstable technology if u ask me :) Jules said in 2020 is a lot better, but i wouldnt sleep on it :D

awwww, ok! Well, regarding this I'm waiting to switch to an updated Octane version, I'm on RTX too, maybe I should wait for defintive stable 2020 release? what you think?

hello! I'm using v4-05 R7, so to import a texture image into absorption slot I should update to 2019? thanks

Hey bud! Two things: u using octane 2019 and onwards? And make sure ur projection is other than UV, eg. box or xyz to uvw (planar). Take a look at my file as well :) Cheers!

Every time I try and input an image texture into the absorption I just get a plain red output on the smoke. Any ideas where I might be going wrong?
Thanks for all the amazing posts!

I recently got my license of TFD and I jumped to see this tutorial as soon as I found that you have Patreon. I loved this and I loved your way of going trough this topic. Very pleasant to follow and casual. Not getting values from memo and doing live experiments. Great stuff. Can't wait to go trough all other videos. PS. I really liked your viewport huds! Very hand. I must make my own too. Cheers!

Hmm im not sure it should just work. Its a bit buggy feature for the moment, needs more testing. As u will see in my latest tut (uploading atm) it needs a bit more testing. Plz report to Ahment in forums for anything, it can be a great help to all! thanks!

For some reason when i plug in an image texture in absorption with XYZ it still projects as a box, can't seem to fix it but it seems to work in your project file, any clue's? R20, latest TFD, thank you for this amazing tutorial :)

Yes the concepts are exactly the same in explosia. Its just slower a lot thats whey when i do fluid sims i dont use explosia :) Just do what u see in the tut with explosia

Awesome stuff! Would you be able to achieve this with X Particles? (don't currently have Turbulence FD)

Yes with explosia. But is a bit more complex and a lot slower to cache.

Thanks man. The image is just a jpeg from internet. Not even high resolution.

Amazing tutorial! I am wondering what format is the image for coloring the simulation is. It seems to have a 3d dimension - 900 x 600 x 24.

Can this be done with x particle too?
