Red, White & Royal Blue

Part 1

Part 2

Catch me on rainy days with tea, blankets, cats, and this fluffy ass romcom in a movie marathon. <3

I have watched thus a few times. Great reaction. But I want to know what you thought of the Paris scene. You said you would get back with us. I really want to know. I thought it was perfect. Also are you still thinking of doing the book?

Mary E Crum

Oh man, I joined literally yesterday, have made my way through the Good Omens and OFMD reactions already and this is just the icing on the cake. Any chance that book reaction has already happened and I just haven't found it yet? And if not, I would just like to highly recommend you read the book, whether as a reaction or not. It's definitely worth it.

Thea

I'm posting this late, but I'm 100% down for your reading reaction to the book - it's so witty and heartwarming with character depth that the movie (which though wonderful) couldn't, of course, manage.

Juanita Ramos

Loved seeing you fangirl over Rachel and Joy as much as I did when they popped up!!! Would absolutely love to hear your thoughts on the book, of course it goes deeper into pretty much every aspect of the story and the characters. Totally feel you when you said it's like they're doing 'reality AU', for me the comfort AU aspect of it is as much in the politics as the romance, like, if only!!!

Bri

Random Good Omens thought: isn’t the red room scene from RWRB exactly what we want to happen when Aziraphale comes back?

Dede

This was really lovely. Thank you so much. The jumping under water to be away from things took me back to my best love series somehow. It's a nice a nice use of image to express the feeling of drowning and wanting to be away from everything.

Yste

i've been so busy lately i haven't been watching many reactions but had to return for this! i would LOVE to see you reading the book! it's obviously similar to the movie but able to cover a lot more and be a lot more nuanced.

jazz

So far you are the ONLY one to know/mention Steve! Made my night <3 (Also I am such a fake fan--I had no idea he was gay until you mentioned he'd be representation and I *ran* to Google. I'm over the moon, he and Rachel were already a fave duo and now they're the mlm/wlw nerd solidarity we deserve???? Amazing.)

Brittany Diamond

I loved the book. I was so nervous about this adaptation, but I think they did a good job. Would’a been better as a three-part miniseries—but whatever. When I heard they were making the movie, all I could think was Sarah Shahi had to be Zahra! I mean…. she should be in everything, but definitely Zahra. You liked the movie and the book is even better! Thanks for the reaction! 🥰

slg

Agreed that you should read the novel. It hits the same beats as the movie, but it's got more story, more characters, and more love letters.

Airawyn

I too would have loved to see Steve Kornacki participate with Rachel on the election coverage! Especially for the extra queer representation. Sadly, most people probably don't know who he is. :(

CJ

I would definitely be interested in a read along of the book though. It adds so much depth to the development of their relationship that was lost in the transition to the screen. Plus multiple very important characters that were completely cut and pretty much the entirety of the political subplots surrounding the presidential campaign.

Chris B.

Oh I would've sworn I added parts 1 and 2 to the Drive at the same time?? Part 2 is definitely there now, just give it a little bit for Google to process etc. Thank you for telling me it was missing! <3

Brittany Diamond

Oooo that makes me even more interested in the book tbh, thanks for telling me. <3

Brittany Diamond

Oof. I hate missing your reactions but I simply cannot subject myself to this atrocity again. Glad you enjoyed it though.

Chris B.

Rachel Maddow has had other TV & movie cameos as herself in the past, but I probably shouldn't say where for spoiler reasons. ;) She also had a recurring voice role as a fictional talk radio journalist in a show that I would be surprised if you haven't seen.

CJ

This is definitely a comfort movie, and the way the writing was able to go from hilarious quips and then right into heavy emotional scenes was just perfection. Also, LOL, fangirling over a Rachel Maddow cameo is a must. I literally squealed every time she was on screen.

JessiML

You are so right saying this is a comfort film! Now that I rewatched this with you I think my opinion got more positive too - not to say that I disliked it, there was just so much depth and political/social commentery lost from the adaptation that after the first watch I wasn't sure how I felt. I still think some bits are a bit rushed, but overall yeah we deserve all the queer romcoms that we can get from all over the world! And the actors did great job and now that I was able to distance myself from the novel I could appreciate their work even more durgin the second watch^^ Also yeah if you can fit the read through to your schedule somewhere!

Blau Beere

Really enjoyed the movie. I think they did a really good job adapting the book to screen. There’s so much in its 450 pages that I was worried the story would lose its charm when cut down to fit a feature length, but they managed to keep its heart. Also just want to say I found you on YouTube from your Heartstopper S1 reactions and I have to say you have to be one of the most genuine and enjoyable reactors I’ve watched. Can’t wait to see what’s next.

Nick A

Ahhh I love your reaction so far (part 1)! Will part 2 be put on the G.drive? I have problems with downloading the files unfortunately so keep checking back haha. But yeah this movie was great and you should 100% do a live read thing for the book people would eat that **** up!

Elliot

I really enjoy the movie, but the book is at least twice as good. It gives so much more depth and emotion to everything. It broadens the lens with other characters that got left out of the movie and gets a little more queer. And it's just absolutely beautiful. It's one of the absolute best romances I've read. Rather than being sugary and light, the book will leave you sobbing and shaking and also uplifted. IME, at least. Definitely recommend you react to it. And of course if you don't definitely read it. It's by far my favorite of the modern trendy queer novels.

threerings

the book is so beyond wonderful, casey is such a great writer and while the movie did a fantastic job with the texts and emails there is so much more in the book (as always) that fleshes out their relationship even further. my biggest gripe about adaptations isn't a few changes in situations or settings, it's changes to characters because as long as the characters remain true i'm going to enjoy it - this movie exceeded my expectations. with that i also have to say that you should ABSOLUTELY read 'one last stop' by casey (it's the book alex is holding that you spotted when they're in the hammocks) because while i LOVE 'red, white, and royal blue', 'one last stop' inched ahead because it's a sapphic love story that i found pretty damn relatable (casey is so good at bi rep, honestly) while also having some fantastical elements. ALL THIS TO SAY i always enjoy your reactions, i'm glad you reacted to this, and i'm even happier that you enjoyed it! :D

brittany beyerle

i second this, other than one tiny part that movie is so good and i've watched it several times! 😊

brittany beyerle

I would love to see you read the book it’s even more comforting and funny and political than the movie 💗 Thank you for this lovely reaction!! Between Good Omens, Heartstopper and this my little bi heart is the fullest it’s been in a long time.

Kate

have you watched the thing about Harry?

Sydney

please, please, please read the book!! its so worth it!<3

Ezekiel

Would love to see you read the book ❤️

Shey Perry

Oh yes, the movies was good but book is amazing and characters are more fleshed out.

Once_upona_fae

loved the reaction and would love to see you reading the book too

Yana

Brittany, unfortunately, I only had time to watch part one, but it was amazing! I loved your reactions as always. I just want to say I don’t know if you talked about it in the second part I’m gonna watch it as soon as I get back from shopping. But I was more than floored by their Paris sex scene. It was beautiful, it was sent to us, it was emotional, funny and heartfelt, but above all, but I really enjoyed about it was the clarity . When men have anal sex, they first of all have to prepare ahead of time, which is why Henry saying “ I think we should make love tonight” was significant . He had prepped. And the other thing that I really enjoyed with the fact that Alex ask the question instead of anybody assuming what is going to happen. And Henry was so comforting to him. ( and he was clearly open to being the receiving partner. He just doesn’t know what he’s doing so Henry was not going to ask I’m sure) Thanks again for your wonderful, smart, funny and compassionate reactions! I’ve been hooked since Heartstopper and I am riding the Gaywatch Train, Choo Choo!

Mathew Aquino

Hello, just so you know, I would totally be happy with watching a read along of this book too. I’m not ready to let go of this story!!!! 🤣😩
