That was an incredible gift from the director to the fans of BL. You know they made a conscious decision to go as gay as they dared go when they filmed it. The story could've been fine without it, but it was that extra perfect touch, just blurring the line between compassion and eroticism. Love it. :-)

I think it was by hunxi-guilai? Basically, martial siblings falling in love is a pretty common trope in wuxia and xianxia media. You even have it in this show with Gao Xiaolian and Deng Kuan. (And I think wkx’s parents were probably also martial siblings first?) But because it’s two guys, straight people with hetero goggles on will most likely write off them being affectionate as just “bros being bros.” Which I think is hilarious. My heart always breaks at little Zhen Yan screaming for his father. The poor child is already traumatized, and he’s not even in Ghost Valley yet! But on the other hand, childhood friends! Some happy memories! You really called out Xie’er (scorpion king) there with the praise kink. I mean. Yeah, it’s true. Sadly, his dad(dy) is a piece of shit. I really love a-xiang’s and qianqiao’s interactions. Qianqiao going “okay, you keep telling yourself that sweetie, meanwhile I’ll impart some wisdom on spending time with your loved ones.”

Episode 19 - I'm embarrassed to say it took me a number of viewings to notice (a) the same jade hairpin in Wen Ke Xing's hair as the little boy, and (b) the sheer amount of times the little boy's image fades and we have a direct cut to Wen Ke Xing. It's like, all the clues were there, long before anyone actually said anything.

I bet that’s why he went mad and was at the entrance of Ghost Valleyl!! He was probably being haunted or possessed or something😨 poor WKX looked so wretched sad at all this info - I think it was all new info for him!!!
