February has been another eventful month at the Dorkfactory. A large-batch release, a big sale on MyMiniFactory, 5 bonus minis, and all that on top of moving to a new location! (the last part is probably 50% of why this month feels as crazy as it does to me)

It's hard to believe it was only a few weeks ago that the shadowspace bloodseekers came out. I was pretty excited about these graceful aliens because of the awesome concept art I had to work with this time around, and they ended up turning out even better than I had hoped. They forced me to use a new trick and I'm not exactly sure why but it made the sculpts look a lot smoother and fancier -- pretty cool!
Almost the whole month was dedicated to getting everything in order for the sale on MyMiniFactory that took place Feb 18th/19th while simultaneously packing and moving but I was able to squeak in a fun side project where I updated the still unnamed Dorkfactory mascot in honor of the Dorkfactory's first birthday!

One day, this guy is going to become the center of a very sick miniature, but I'm waiting until I have a really good idea.

The last several days have been roughly half unpacking and half 3d modelling. The second batch of models are a little later than usual but they're turning out pretty awesome so far. I actually finished them yesterday but I hated their wings so much I had to redo them. TOTALLY WORTH IT.

This bat-ish set of wings is a million times cooler (no I am not gonna show the god-awful first wings ha). It was super fun making this mildly complicated rig and adding some physics simulation. I hadn't done anything like that in a long time. There is still some smoothing and sculpting to do on these scourge-like aliens but they'll be out very soon. The idea was definitely inspired by the upcoming release of the new Dark Eldar codex for warhammer 9th edition (can't wait!).

For next month's models, I unearthed a project that's been on the backburner for a long time. I've always thought Slaanesh Daemons look EXTREMELY cool but a lot of the models are kind of the same thing with slight variations. SO, I wanted to make some of the standard units but have them stand out a bit with ornate armor and different sculpts. These are very much in the awkward middle stages right now (3D puberty) but in the end I promise these things are gonna blow your mind -- especially once they're posed and riding their mounts (which is going to be a LOT easier this time around after learning a new rigging system!)
Anyway, HUGE THANKS to everyone who took advantage of the sale on MyMiniFactory and ALSO HUGE THANKS to everybody who helped spread the word about it. And of course HUGE THANKS to MyMiniFactory for putting up a banner on their front page about it.
Well, there's minis need makin'
I'll see you all again soon
