Michael Jackson had vitiligo. It’s a skin condition that robs skin of pigment and is progressive. It’s why he started wearing one glove. He used heavy makeup for years to cover his spreading patches and then finally switched to light makeup to cover the remaining exposed dark patches of skin. He also had a spectacularly failed nose job that successive surgeries failed to repair. These two things were the core of his change in looks and neither were something he did on purpose, and both had a massive negative impact on his self image and identity. He definitely had mental health issues from massive childhood abuse and I won’t speculate on other issues. But as far as his looks, that was not a quest to “become white” or whatever.

In the fandom, 2018 is acknowledged as being one of the worst years, not in terms of success obviously because the guys were growing exponentially but there so much sh*t was thrown their way year. The pressure of everything was massive and they were also dealing with multiple death threats, massive smear campaigns and just huge amounts of hate being thrown from all sides!

RM wasn’t really saying to just hug strangers if they say Happy New Year to you😂 He was saying to not mock people for having goals during New Years, even if they’re not likely to keep up with the goal because having goals in and of itself is important. Life can be really boring if you don’t try to improve, and if that only happens once a year, then at least it’s something. That’s kinda what I got from that discussion

Great episode and strongly agree on doing something as a fandom for Aneesa (I can, so I support her on Patreon although she seems to almost feel guilty for taking money for her work in many posts). It’s hard but important to understand the context of art and artist. For example the many abusive or toxic artists out there. We have a real issue with putting artist on a pedestal and too often be it Picasso or Michael Jackson the truth isn’t shiny or good. I loved author Marion Zimmer Bradley in my teens but she and her husband it turned out were horrible people and one of the few times I threw away a book rather than just donate. I’m struggling with JK Rowling because her books created such beautiful memories for me and my kids but man is she tarnishing her own legacy (those I’ve just decided to enjoy my memories of her books and reading them to my kids but not invest further in the works). BTS being radically transparent is interesting because I dont think people would get the impact of things like “Magic Shop” if you aren’t a part of the fandom.

I used to wonder how dancers remembered moves. I've been playing instruments for ~15 years and started dancing ballet in my adulthood and now I've realized a lot of similarities between them and my music background definitely helps with my dancing. A lot of it is just repetition, you practice and try it for so long that you just memories it and it comes naturally. A song might sound similar or that it repeats itself a lot but there are slight differences that kind of work as cues to know when to make a spesific move or help to remember what your next move is
