We’re very excited to announce a new partnership we’ve been working on for the past few months with a brand new language learning app called Nonsense. Nonsense turns your favorite Hollywood movies into language learning right on your phone.
Imagine if HBO, LingQ, and Tiktok had a baby and that baby was a language learning expert. They’ve taken hundreds of the best Hollywood films and added popup dictionaries, sentence mining, and language lessons all in the palm of your hand.
From a Refold perspective, it’s the ideal tool for Stage 1 and 2 learners to build their initial foundation in their target language.
But wait! How are they going to get matching subtitles for dubbed movies!?
FEAR NOT! They’ve transcribed the audio for every language on every film to make sure the subtitles exactly match the audio.
The app is currently in private beta and Refold members are one of the first groups to get access. If you sign up through our link, you’ll get the premium version of the app for the entirety of the private beta PLUS an additional year completely for free ($200+ value).
They’ve only given us 500 invites so we’re making this available to Refold Patrons first. If there are still slots available next week, we’ll share the invite code with the rest of the community.
They’re rapidly expanding their supported languages, but right now only Spanish, French, Japanese, and Russian are supported. Sorry everyone else :(. You’ll just have to wait for the full release.
The App is in beta, so there will be some bugs. If you want to report issues, they've created a discord or you can email their team at feedback@getnonsense.com.

2022-03-04 22:27:20 +0000 UTCI love the app, but here are a few suggestions: Allow the app to have landscape viewing not only when consuming content. It's frustrating rotating the app over and over again. The pause button sometimes doesn't work and you have to fidget with the interface sometimes to get the content to play. Allow individuals to not report on a phrase or scene when in the app, but also the app itself. When someone checks their saved words and wants to hear a playback on that word, they have to wait for the whole thing to load, it may not be possible to fix that issue; however, it would be great if individuals were granted the ability to pause or stop that playback if they accidentally clicked on it. A zoom-out feature on portrait mode can make the app easier to gauge on mobile. This app has awesome potential and I think, despite the bugs and minor workarounds, it can be one of the best immersion tools for us language enthusiasts!
