I was thinking about what you guys said about kids and the internet; I think children's entertainment has always leaned heavily into absurdist comedy because kids instinctively understand that kind of humor but the format of that entertainment has changed as technology gets better. The internet prioritizes content that's short and simple because it's easier both to view and share, so these memeified type videos get disseminated in three seconds because that's how long it practically takes to load. Because of the short length and easy access it's not hard for a kid to view a lot of content in a short amount of time, so they can recognize a video referencing another video which is referencing a gif, etc. Kids are little information sponges and it's wild how easily they pick things up.
