PATREON EXCLUSIVE: Bureaucracy Will Be The Death Of Me

Does this make sense or do I sound insane? If I sound insane it's because the bureaucrats made me this way.

Comments

The complexity exists so people with the means can game the system and people without the means are too confused to know they’re being fucked over.

Raymond Rogers

I see your American taxes and raise you Canadian home insurance.

Wife

I’m glad you can vent safely here. And I hope this was a little cathartic. I know it was for me 😁

Carilyn Done

It's not the beaurocracy itself wholly at fault, but conservatives. They underfund the beaurocracy so it can't afford to hire enough qualified people to make things work the way they are supposed to, so they can then turn around and say, "See? It doesn't work. We need to get rid of it." That's certainly not the only problem, but it's a key one.

Kent Carlotto

Sadistic nerd! 🤣

Ashley Moon

I relate! And don’t get me started on why quit my therapist job after 3 weeks in addiction treatment because of insurance BS!

Ashley Moon

It’s not any easier on the employer side. Rules by city, county, state, federally. Multiple separate employer purchased insurance polices, tax accounts, reporting. Small business hiring remotely? You have to know and follow the rules for every single city/county/state that your employees live in. And nobody puts them together in once place. The system is designed for companies with huge HR departments, not you and me.

Benjamin Manns

But what's mental is, even after you doing all that, they know exactly how much you owe in taxes, because if you get it wrong, they'll let you know! Wtf??

Amanda Mango Cape

We live in a world where Vogon will always exist.

Amanda Mango Cape

I'm absolutely with you on all of this. In the USA, the answer to "why" questions like this is usually racism. Pretty sure that's true here as well.

Asa Willow

I’m so sorry you live in a traitor state. You still have to fill out a long form here in Washington, but it’s much more reasonable and doesn’t require parasites to weigh in.

Johnny 5

Why make it easy on the taxpayer? Make it so they have to have help. That way, more money can be extracted from them and given to the billionaires.

Anne

The irs is kept shit at their job on purpose so they can’t effectively tax large payers. You’re just collateral damage :(

Chairdevil

I find Australian gov bureaucracy bad enough. I think American bureaucracy would definitely kill me 😅

Benji

I applied for food stamps and Medicaid in TX. They have forms for me to get filled out by .... My landlord My bank with last 3 statements My kid's school My LAST *THREE* JOBS along with other BS. Ofc I gave up and we don't have healthcare or good food. They wanted the 50 pages of docs done in 5 days. That don't want you to complete it. They want you to die.

Rhyme Penttila

I think it was John Oliver did a piece on US taxes, and talked about how private companies like turbo tax lobbied to ban the IRS from prefilling everything for you. So you're right, someone did make it hard on purpose, but not because they're sadistic: once again it's because in a corrupt capitalist society things being convenient for free is a waste.

butmostlymeee

Yes!!! As a nurse who works on the beuracracy side of healthcare, I 100% agree with this

Tanya Dailey

Afuckinmen!

Steve Mitchell

As someone who was homeless for 5 years and thus had to fill out some TRULY insane paperwork to stay alive: I FEEL YOU! I was homeless in the first place because the disability paperwork and process is intentionally opaque and stupid. It is most definitely on purpose.

Phina O'Neil

your views are similar to Yanis Varoufakis in regards to central banking, he talks about a digital id to bypass the banks, but any time any country tries to do it, everyone freaks out.

Robert

Ever since I found out how the EU does yearly taxes coupled with how the government constantly wants to cut funding, or refusing to fund makes me want to send my return with a note that says "No, you don't use my taxes to take care of me".

Biscuitus Maximus

I’m someone who actually loves bureaucracy but this is the stuff that’s horrible about it. Institutions exist for people, not the other way around.

Johnny 5

Sadly it wasn't designed by one person or group. It's one thing added on another by different people with different motives over time. No one person said we need a massive bureaucracy.

Talon Wenberg

Much love to you for working in special education though!!

Johnny 5

In principle I agree with almost everything you said, but then I think about the current administration having direct access to your money and the ability to control your healthcare, and then the current system doesn't look quite so bad (but it is still awful)

Echo

Truly a nightmare

Austin Archer

Yes.

Austin Archer

It’s so insane.

Austin Archer

This. 🫰🏼🫰🏼🫰🏼

Erin

You would hate my job. I work in special education and the bureaucracy is mind numbing. I felt this video in my soul.

Grace L'Orange

Sort this out before they come after you for reparations... I won't bother with details, suffice it to say I went through an IRS nightmare many, many moons ago and lost all eligibility for the EIC and did not get any refunds again until my kids were grown and out of the house... I didn't make any mistakes, truly... Let's just say my ex-wife was involved, and she was on the dole in another state at the time... The IRS said, Well, someone owes us money, and she doesn't make any, we can't take it because they can't seize welfare or whatever she was on... I had a full-time job, so they made me pay it back... Years later, I got serious and looked into it with a lawyer, and he told me in all honesty, I could potentially fight and win, but I would spend more paying him than I'd get from the IRS... He said, Just pay them (IRS) and move on... I'm small potatoes to them (IRS), and they won't waste their time dealing with me... ☹

Dale Allen Platt

taxes have been a Fucking Nightmare this year. they are holding our refund because they claim (only NOW) that we did something wrong with the 2022 year return. absurd.

June Taylor

The fact that the irs KNOWS the number I'm supposed to report but they're just like "SAY THE NUMBER YOU THINK BASED ON ALL THIS PAPERWORK" and i'm like "uhh....$54231?" and they're just like "NOOO it's actually $55681, that'll be $600 for telling us the wrong number that we already knew this entire time." And the fact that Intuit has lobbied for years to force us to use their shitty software instead of just using a simple filing tool on the IRS website. The bureaucracy is our punishment for simply existing, I guess.

Allison Gray

I know this makes me the "different kind of person" but..wait..did you get the 1095-B??

Sam Quincy

Dude the last minute I absolutely felt that. I get you haha

Anthony Ocean

Because greed. Greed is the reason for so much. I would say that the "sickness of greed" is the largest problem we have as a species.

Anthony Ocean

It's so mind numbing

JEM

I absolutely agree and same. Dude like this kind of stuff makes me feel insane. It doesnt have to be so difficult. Humans make everything far more complicated than it needs to be. I feel you Austin

Anthony Ocean

I totally agree with you, but unfortunately there are lobbyists who want the system to be complex so we continue to pay other people to do it for us. Look at how much Intuit spends on lobbying Washington. 😳

Jaime L

Thank you, as always, for making me feel less insane. Designed to make sure we fuck up, or get tired enough to stop trying

Jaye

I feel this in my soul.

Una
