In yesterday’s post about mental wellness I talked about how I never intended to be a professional political commentator and how my whole life I only ever wanted to make art. So I thought maybe I should share more of that art with all of you. One thing I’ve been doing consistently for nearly ten years now is directing music videos. Originally I only directed videos for my own songs (because I was the only artist who would hire me) and then I started making videos for other artists more and more often as I got more experience. This video from 8 years ago was the first official video I ever made. It was a collaboration with an eccentric filmmaker from Portugal named Tiago Durão who I met one night at a bar I used to frequent in Bushwick. We wound up making two short films together as well as this music video. I thought I’d start a series on Patreon called “From the Vault” where I show old videos and long forgotten gems you probably weren’t aware existed. Should be fun to watch the progression of the craft. What you can see in this video is a baby Austin who had a simple concept that could be executed with zero dollars, a single actor in a single location, and a decent DSLR. The song is “Taught to Lie” from my 2017 album COREY FELDMAN. You can find the full album on my band camp if you want to hear more! www.austinarchermusic.bandcamp.com
