PATREON EXCLUSIVE: Fun With Magical Thinking
Added 2025-08-28 00:46:09 +0000 UTCJust to reiterate, I don't actually think move theatres are magical, space-bending buildings. I'm just saying it's fun to think this way, and also it's a thought that I understand on an emotional level, if that makes any kind of sense.

"The bucket list" as a concept, is the Mandela effect that messes my brain up. X

2025-09-28 05:46:03 +0000 UTCI have this thinking about cinemas all the time!!!! And no, I also don't want the magic to be explained to me. Xx

2025-08-30 21:19:46 +0000 UTCOmg I am in the “I saw the Sinbad Shazam movie” category. Whaaaat??

2025-08-29 23:20:34 +0000 UTCI love this. I suspect it's a series of subtle optical illusions that trick our perception of size. Like, something about a narrow hallway versus a large, open, dark room. But it's very cool when those things conspire to make a magical experience especially in an escapist area like a movie theater.

2025-08-29 19:24:10 +0000 UTCJust last night I was reading about the double slit quantum thing and it's wild that you mentioned that! And I agree that movie theaters don't make sense, spacialy.

2025-08-29 13:37:13 +0000 UTCI think the actual explantion is magical but its cuz its a amazing construction engineering.

2025-08-29 02:15:35 +0000 UTCAs someone who worked as a projectionist walking around up by the projectors also doesnt help it just makes you go wow lol

2025-08-29 02:08:56 +0000 UTCHow funny would it be if they made a movie with Sinbad called Shazam 2 just to mess with people.
Hailey
2025-08-28 23:53:02 +0000 UTCA good movie always feels like time travel. I'm sad that more people aren't going to movies and so many movie theaters aren't doing so well.

2025-08-28 23:45:49 +0000 UTCI've never thought about it before, but that is super interesting

2025-08-28 15:44:46 +0000 UTCHospitals feel this way sometimes, too. Sure, the building may be big and sprawling, but once inside...how did they get all those rooms in there?

2025-08-28 15:04:26 +0000 UTCWhen I was a kid, I thought, "Maybe we're some other being's ant farm?" 🤣

2025-08-28 15:00:03 +0000 UTCHonestly self awareness lets magical thinking be fun. We deserve it every now and then as a treat :)

2025-08-28 13:53:09 +0000 UTCIt’s crazy magical how entertaining you are. 😁

2025-08-28 13:26:35 +0000 UTCI believe that this is essential to the creative process. We conjure something out of nothing; we HAVE to indulge in magical thinking a least a little.

2025-08-28 13:02:08 +0000 UTCI was trying to think of a theatre where I've had this experience, and the strip-mall three-screen theater one town over from where I grew up definitely makes no sense. The entrance takes up just as much space as any of the stores on either side in the strip, but this one has three giant rooms and enough hallway for half the town to line up to see titanic ....

2025-08-28 12:33:27 +0000 UTCThis is hilarious as ive never thiught about it this way, and youre right. Now im not going to be able to unsee it. This is great Austin

2025-08-28 10:46:35 +0000 UTCAnd yeah, collective memories are interesting. They’re obviously not other realities. Collective misremembering is a very cool aspect of human biology.

2025-08-28 04:47:24 +0000 UTCI don’t perceive movie theatres like this at all, but I love that this is something that people think of!

2025-08-28 04:46:10 +0000 UTCThere is a God. It's you. It's you, outside the simulation. You've been running the simulation millions of times, to see how things might possibly turn out, and to find what combination of events will yield the absolute worst timeline. We're currently in that absolute worst timeline.
Anne
2025-08-28 03:52:03 +0000 UTCYes exactly like that.

2025-08-28 03:02:50 +0000 UTCI worked in one for five years and I fully believe they're magic. There are tucked away cupboards and hidden hallways and a single hall upstairs to get to the projectors. It's genuinely a wildly incomprehensible space. Each stadium is like... a triangle block standing on the point on either side of t he hall. Thosee blocks have a long, flat rectangle between them, with a long thin square sat on top of it. In the empty space between the triangle block are usually storage spaces for things like popcorn and cleaning supplies and the long, thin block is the hallway. The long, short block at the top is the projectors gangway. When you get to the secret hallways, I get lost. I was never good at navigating the elaborate ones. I'm not sure how they attach. And there really are so many parts of the building that are actually cut off in some way but aren't storage space. Just... nothing there when you KNOW that the shape of the outside would REQUIRE a room where you're at. Also, the doors are close because they put the doors on the left of one auditorium and the right of the one next to it. It gives them a MASSIVE set of open space to put things like posters and trash cans. But they also do irregular ones sometimes and it's REALLY hard to fit them into a mental map. All of that said? It's magic. Anyone who works in one will tell you it never feels quite real or correct. Like stepping into a fae realm and trying to make sense of it.
Phina O'Neil
2025-08-28 03:01:02 +0000 UTCSame. We had one auditorium that was for whatever movie had almost no people watching them. It ended up getting called haunted because the movie playing with no one in there just puts the hair on the back of your neck up and I can't describe why.
Phina O'Neil
2025-08-28 02:47:36 +0000 UTCI also indulge in magic from time to time. I think the world is better with it, even if it isn't real.
Gingerine Tangerine
2025-08-28 02:16:56 +0000 UTCI worked in a movie theater for two years and they are 1000% liminal spaces. Especially on slow days when no one is watching movies but they still play.
Vince
2025-08-28 01:38:40 +0000 UTCAnd then you swear you’re clearly in an interior space in the theatre and yet, there’s that exit that leads right to the parking lot and you’re just like “whaaat the hell just happened?!”
Raymond Rogers
2025-08-28 01:36:34 +0000 UTCI love the idea of movie theaters being a portal &/or break from the simulation

2025-08-28 01:20:25 +0000 UTCHoly shit yes

2025-08-28 01:14:31 +0000 UTCMy growing crush on you with each new take is another fun thought.. harmless and ultimately fruitless, but fun to indulge nonetheless the less. 😅
Kat
2025-08-28 01:12:06 +0000 UTC"You walk around a corner," yeah, THIS. That corner thing. How are the doors that close??
Sam Quincy
2025-08-28 01:10:57 +0000 UTCYou mean like when I like to believe that fairies live in my garden or by the stream near Cecrit Lake?😁
