Wrestling With My Overly Anxious Thoughts

Thank you again for everything. FREE members, you know what to do next.

Comments

Austin, you’ve already shown your value to us, over time, and given so much without a paywall. I chose the middle tier as a way of saying “thanks for everything so far” – the $1 subscription is a deal! (And there is always Bandcamp, folks.)

Tedward Sax

Setting a boundary around the value of your content is 100% valid. Having been self employed myself, it is totally normal to struggle to appropriately value the work you do. (Normal being very subjective here cause society causes this problem but not the point). Normal to have these thoughts, we are consenting adults and making an informed decision.

Aubrey Schwarz

Didn't feed that thought that you're on the same page as grifters for asking for support. I immediately realized that I take advantage of content that I greatly appreciate but never thought how much small donations could help when enough others do the same... Thanks for all you do 🫵👍 that video about supporting people that do good hit so on point ♥️

Edward

Newbie here. Honestly, it’s only fair. I have several of your videos I use on social media, (Congratulations, that was one of the .. and the pronouns song..oh and when conservatives find out woke rhymes with broke) I probably owe MORE money. Glad to be here. :)

Vicki McGuire

I'm one of the new subscribers but I've been following you on all the socials for a while now. I've seen a few of the people I follow get struck by the censorship that has been happening lately. Most of which, funny enough, seems to happen during a live while they are talking about censorship. Anytime I'm feeling anxious or out of sorts, I go to one of your "we're not the same" videos or one of the songs you wrote and it never fails to help. So please don't think you aren't offering enough or that what you do offer isn't good enough. Thanks for always being real and honest with us. Sidenote: Is there a way on here for people to gift memberships to those who can't do the $1/ month tier?

LeftyBlue

Your work is 100% worth the incredibly low price and beyond. I understand the anxious voice you're talking about. I do session singing on Airgigs and I always wrestle with myself on the prices I charge and whether I'm "good enough" or worthy of that amount. Keep doing what you're doing, I know we all appreciate you.

Heather LeAnn Mullins

Your creation of the $1 tier shows such generosity, not only to your viewers but to other creators; subscriptions add up, and this allows your followers to also support others. That kind of support, for multiple creators, is going to be all the more necessary now, in the era of second-wave fascism, so your $1 tier feels like it helps sow seeds of much-needed community-building for the sake of resistance. (The energy of it reminds me of mutual aid networks. Not sure if that makes sense to brains other than mine, since It’s quite different from that in the details, obviously, but there you go.) In short: you’re the literal, exact opposite of a grifter, so don’t doubt yourself. Your generosity is what inspired me to create a Patreon account at all, and as my first ever subscription here, I chose your $2 option (which works out to $3 Canadian), just as a thank you for your excellent content and your generous gesture. Even if you posted only what I was already getting for free on Instagram, it would be enough. 🙏

Melissa

I understand that “I’m not worthy” feeling, but I love your content. I know you are monetized in some places, but we’re all adults. If we choose to join artists on Patreon, that’s on us. And I’m not expecting anything more than what I was getting for free on the other platforms. What you’re doing for free is worth what I’m paying at the moment, I don’t need more if you don’t want to do that 😁 it’s ok, don’t stress, you rock!! 👏🏻

Michelle Jordan

Stay strong Austin. This was a very smart move, and it takes time when you make a direction change. Just make sure you keep advertising the patreon in all of the public videos. You are at the forefront of what is going to be the fracturing of the internet into smaller paid spaces - this will become more and more the norm with Ai gobbling up content and corporations firing all of their creatives and algorithms becoming more and more conservative. Stay strong!

omniscitoad

Nah, never felt like this was a grift or akin to an evangelical scam. I’m a sports fan, and I listen to sports talk radio and sometimes I need to pay a subscription for access to some of the beat reporters I like to follow. I need to pay to read our local publication, the Virginian Pilot. And I’m happy to pay to have more exclusive access to you as I’ve enjoyed your perspective, your content, and your talent for a long time. You’re good, that voice in your head is just you checking in on yourself, but you’re good. Thank you for all you do!

Erik D Leach

Went from free to $5, with pleasure. Keep giving voice to my thoughts and I’ll keep paying you to be a good person. You’re worth it. ✊🏼❤️

Raymond Rogers

I’m so happy to have found your content. You give me new hope for the future.

Harold

This is my first time signing up for a Patreon and I’m so excited! It feels like a form of resistance, even if it’s small. Thank you for creating the space for us. Your last podcast was so good and made so many good points. When you talked about how they took TikTok away, just to show us they could…wow. I think you’re so right! Anyway, I’m happy to be here even if you only gave us your normal content!

McKenna

I am so unbelievably grateful that your content is available for $1 a month. I appreciate you so much and all the hard work you put into your content. What you do matters so much- so happy to be here!!

Kaci Winckler

Hey Austin buddy, you already are giving us what we paid for. Just do what you do and im happy. You are worth it and im glad youre doing the work. ❤️

Anthony Ocean

I believe in you Austin. You are worth what youre asking for and a lot more, and youre not even asking a lot. Its perfectly OK to ask for help, to ask to be properly supported etc. As always this is well articulated, but the ones saying you should don't for free or expect a certain level of content, dont get it. Youre not a grifter bud, I appreciate you and everything you have to say. There is a ton of value in YOU.

Anthony Ocean

New patreon after seeing your latest video. I'm in the UK so I'm less affected by US politics but I recognise the threat to us further a field. Nigel Farage is becoming more popular here. If that man should become PM here, we'll be in even more trouble. I've never been religious but don't want religion being put above no religion. Offering a $1 pay wall is very decent of you and you shouldn't worry about it.

Herbie

The fact that you’re even pondering this means you’re a good person. We want to support you financially bc you’re a good person and we like what you do. Never doubt that. You are enough. ❤️

Lindsey McAllister

Just get on the soap box and make me feel better about my thoughts and feelings pretty boy

Eugene Ryan

You’ve done MORE THAN ENOUGH…IGNORE THOSE VOICES.

Carter1214

As usual, I think it’s all systemic. Capitalism creates this ridiculous unequal distribution of life’s blessings, and we can only operate within its parameters, else we go move to the forest or something. The best we can do is try to operate as ethically as feasible regardless of the value proposition.

Johnny 5

I get to be here because you made it $1. I’m disabled and we only have one income and NOW prices have doubled. I’ve had to cut back on so many things because it’s simply too expensive. So $1 makes a big difference

Elise Nathan

Same here! I had no idea about the Patreon account. So, so worth it. Really happy to support a voice of sanity ❤️

Jo Hodge

It's important to value your own work. $1 says that you want to make it as available as possible, without completely disregarding the work you put into it. It's more about that energetic exchange that acknowledges your art and creativity. We have to keep art and creativity alive! It is one of the most valuable energies we have as humans... its kind of our purpose... to create. Sadly, it's too often exploited by others, outside of the creator. Money just happens to be what human societies have put value into at this point. Money doesn't have to be a bad thing. It's all about tge energy and intention attached to it.

000

I chose to pay because I feel like your work is important. I don’t want you to stop doing what you’re doing. While I’m extremely entertained by your skits, I think a lot of your serious posts help me to understand my own thoughts and feelings, but you’re better at putting it into words than I am. With so much hatred in this world, you help me stay a good person… because it’s very easy these days to just want to give up and be an asshole like so many others. Keep up the good work!

Jaime L

The man who gave us the absolute bangers Soy Boy and Nobody Cool Likes Tucker Carlson (while also giving me sanity-restorative commentary on the current events super shit show) has anxiety like me? Shush those unhelpful thoughts and take my money Sir. You've more then earned it 💜

Resting Boxface

I hope to be able to offer even more for even less in the near future!

Austin Archer

I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the $1 tier... I've dropped several subs here and on Substack because even $5 a month adds up quickly... Like a lot of people, I'm tight due to bills, and general prices of everything... Especially Groceries... I've had to cut out a lot of stuff I normally treat myself to because my grocery bill doubled over the last year or so...

Dale Allen Platt

New subscriber here. Just wanted to say I've always liked your content but until that last video I somehow missed that you had a Patreon. Go figure. I'm chalking it up to old age. So here, take my money. Gladly. Keep doing what you're doing. You. Are. Awesome.

Adrian Stein

I've made a living working as a lighting technician in theater and dance: I'm keenly aware that without artists and creators I don't eat. Never feel guilty for soliciting support when the alternative is losing your ability to share your passion and perspective. We need more voices like yours, and it would be a steal at 10x the price.

Gandar

Your voice and content deserves to be monetarily compensate and this is more than fair. Try not to listen to that negativity. You are worthy 💙

Roe

$4 adds up fast. I used to pay for others on here but it added up quick and I had to cancel them. So I was stoked to see you put it at $1 and jumped at it. Your content is valuable. You are valuable 💯. It's hard for me to take money for teaching yoga. I don't like it but we live in a capitalistic society. It's hard. For real. Appreciate you.

Stacy Walker

if a dollar isn't cheap enough for someone, than no amount would be cheap enough. and like i get that some people just don't have any spare cash to play with. not judgement on that, but they could maybe not make comments like that acting as though you are asking too much. you are not asking too much, you are not grifting, you have put out fantastic content for years that many of us enjoyed for free, you have well more than earned every dollar you get.

Michael Mirantz

Very affordable.

Bryce Rabbits

But even back in the day of only/ primarily broadcast TV, content wasn't free--people seem to conveniently forget that we had 5 minutes of ads every 10-15 minutes during a show or movie. And even now, I willingly listen to/watch ads during free podcasts or while playing free games on my phone because I can't pay even just a dollar a month for all of the content I consume, but the people who put the work in to create the things I enjoy or value deserve to be paid for their work.

Heather Kirchhefer

Thanks, Austin. Plan B did some streaming stuff before so I thought I’d check!

Laura Fisher

What you do is a form of art (and social commentary, and education), and artists/educators/social analysts deserve to be paid for their work. Period. If people didn't value the art & other content you create, we wouldn't be willing to spend money on it. So don't let those thoughts win!

Heather Kirchhefer

I have been subscribed for this whole time...but I switched paypals....my bad 😂

Dylan

Took all the thoughts out of my head!

Teresa

Austin, thank you so much for what you do. A lot of us gain so much value for your hard work, and we know you're an ethical creator. There's nothing wrong with earning a living while you're adding so much to our society, because honestly, what you're doing is priceless.

Apostate Alexei

Hey-thanks for sharing the thoughts you’re wrestling with and please know, $1 per month is not a true reflection of your value or the value of your content. What you do is invaluable and the $1 is beyond a fair trade for the articulate, factual, informative and entertaining content you create. You are the “commodity” and that’s why it’s a struggle because it’s all you. Keep ignoring that voice because you are not your thoughts. On a completely different note, is there anyway we can pay to see your play online? I’m dying to see it but can’t get to SLC during its run. Anyway, you’re amazing. I’m going to go watch People Pleaser now. Cheers!

Laura Fisher

We don't value art and that is a terrible shame. I am grateful for what you do and that I can help to support you in doing it.

Tanya Dailey

you're a small business owner in a (fairly) new industry! you have all of the same responsibilities to keep yourself in a position where you can continue to serve people in the way you do best. we all have to make money . also...i miss hanging out with you and love these because i know we can't have 20 minute conversations every day lol. love you!!!

Sarah Walker

17k, you can do it! 🚀

Sam Quincy

The well was poisoned when people started to take advantage of and manipulate the less fortunate.

Jamey Lauren Ross

I grew up in Southern Evangelical spaces. Never compare yourself to a televangelist. They have no conscience. Keep up the great work you do. You're worth so much more!!

Kelly C

You’re absolutely right - that voice is full of shit. Here’s how I got here - I felt bad for consuming your hard work (content that consistently adds value to my life) for free, and THAT transaction didn’t feel fair - so I’m here, and have been for a few months. I regret that I didn’t sign up sooner. Thank you for all that you do. I plan to be here ‘till the wheels fall off, so…hopefully forever.

Shaylla

Dang ill watch this later, I thought I had more time. Loving this Patreon thing Austin

Anthony Ocean

Imposter syndrome? Nah, man - you’re good.

Shawn Meunier

You deserve this. You are incredibly talented and your voice is so important. I’m sorry it’s 1% you deserve 100% keep it up!

Allison English

IDK man, youve not promised me that I'll go to heaven, so way more ethical than televangelists. Brains can be extra hard on us sometimes. Im excited to see you on patreon!

Christina

You even wrestling with these thoughts is evidence enough of how dramatically different you are from televangelists and right-wing grifters. You're clearly a very compassionate person, and you don't need to prove that to anyone! Real recognizes real 🫡

Taja Sumpter

I struggle with the "I don't deserve..." mindset ALL FUCKING TIME. But dude...a buck a month is so affordable. Everyone watching this for free should join

Katrina Raplee

People will pay $40/month for pr0n. A $1 is nothing to support

Mission

Honestly paying a buck to make sure I see everything you make and make sure no algorithm hides all the shit you do from me.

Seth Hart

I'm new! Glad to be here!
