New 35mm Films

Recently in San Francisco, there was an in-person estate sale held in which a number of 35mm animated films were available. I was able to work out a deal with the operator to make some remote purchases before the estate sale began.

What turned out to be an amazing find was a rusted metal case labeled "Felix." The operator sold that to me at the same price as the other individual prints. However, inside were two reels labeled "Felix Hits the Deck" and "Felix Plays Romeow." As if getting two Felix cartoons for the price of one was not good enough, it turns out that each reel was 1,000ft and contained two Felix cartoons each. In the end, Rockin Pins and I were able to obtain four Felix the Cat 35mm films for the price of one. We're currently uncertain of the title of the 4th film, but the screenshot above is from the 3rd. Can you identify what it's from?

In addition, we were able to acquire the public domain Popeye "I don't scare" (1956).

I couldn't help myself and received two more films. Bob Clampett's "Book Revue" (because why not?), and the first Road Runner and Wild E. Coyote cartoon, Fast and Furry-ous.

FF, though released in FHD on the platinum collection, has heavy DVNR damage and the soundtrack sounds canned. I'm hoping that I can restore this print to act as a suitable replacement.

I thank all of you who continue to support these efforts. Acquisitions like these (obtaining the print and having a scan done) are not cheap, not to mention the time cost of cleaning everything up.

If you're reading this and not a subscriber, I hope you consider helping support this work.

Also, if you're looking for an alternative way to support these efforts, take a look at https://www.rockinpins.com and buy was cool merchandise.
