Given the enrichment of the potential of the plugin and the now vast amount of features, I decided to start a series of behaviors which try to offer a holistic experience where the features of the plugin get together, are improved and act in synergy.

This is what slightly happened in discovery-motion, but in a too fragmented and hardly usable way. Instead, the goal here is to become more and more generic, trying to escape from the specificity of the individual situations (although the latest behaviors were very flexible in terms of animations).

Without using too much imagination I called this first behavior Simulation1, and of course it's only a partial first simulation and it doesn't really deserve the name. But I should start somewhere 😋.

However, it manages to merge mobility, interaction and awareness like never before and explore new solutions to improve all of them. It basically represents the first container of a behaviour that hopefully in the end will be complete and self-sufficient. The objective here is to make the girl autonomous and have the user to be part of the experience more than the external director.

For this reason the experience must be interactive and intuitive, trying to reduce the ui intervention as much as possible. Inn this case you will see some ui sliders during the behaviour execution but they are girl traits and change her behaviour as one would expect from them. I like this kind of diversification and will try to avoid a fruition that requires specific knowledge to be appreciated.
Regolo Engine was born with concepts of anima and girl's traits after all, so I'm happy It's going back there. My idea is to keep on giving behavioural lines halfway between legacy and wanderer system, so anima and stats are surely a part of the old world that I long to recover.

I'm satisfied of this very first step in this direction. It feel like the closing of a circle, where all the improvements of the latest release are used to retrieve the original spirit of the plugin.
Obviously this paragraph exposes intentions behind this release and the future plans. The actual implementations is still rudimental and even if embodies decently these concepts is still very very far from reaching a meaningful status. A lot of work lies ahead but this first step is very exciting.

How it works

So after all this talking some real details on the new behaviour.

So a lot of options that can together create nice variations.

A lot of new stuff

This new behavior is the result of new features that, as I wrote in the 1.21 post, for time reasons, I was not able to insert.  Regarding the walking and the obstacle avoidance, they're  all new and I think it's evident. The walking has improved a lot since 1.21 too.

The new vertical discovery also contains new features that make it so accurate: 

- expansion of perception to parts of the body that were not previously involved (e.g. feet)
- evolution of the touch of the hands and feet
- anti-lock mechanism
- height management

If I hadn't developed them, it would never have worked well because it is much more complex than the previous one.
The old discovery has been reintroduced here with some additions taken from the new one, especially in the touch, but it remained similar to the 1.21 version mostly. The new version and the old coexist in this behavior because they handle different situations (horizontal and vertical exploration).

I added a new room (perception room) in which to test new obstacle avoidance and vertical exploration, and the new behaviour in general. Kinda parkour style, it's fun. The new room has an invisible sofa but it is there, just it doesn't bother as before.

The girl's new abilities are unpredictable and in the right environment can lead to very unexpected results. When she first attempted to escape in the perception room it was a wtf moment. I thought "Hey, wait, you are not supposed to go there!" 😂

Last but not least working on this behavior I had the opportunity to get my hands on the core of the engine and optimize it a lot. I had to do this because Simulation1 is quite demanding on a computational level and perhaps leaving it like this would have given some problems. For now the changes are only active in the latter behavior but if they guarantee appreciable results I will use them for all future releases. let me know if you are feeling better or worse!

How to use it

Regolo Engine 1.22 has been built and tested on VaM 1.20.77.9.

Detailed instructions about dance folder and dance UI can be found in the 1.8 release post.

It's highly recommended to disable soft body physics to enhance the experience and avoid undesirable effects. In fact the many random frictions caused by most of the behaviours generated by the plugin cause unpredictable soft-physics reactions.

Change physics update cap to 1 if you experience trembling issues.

Also an important recommendation: safest way to start over the plugin execution is to clear it, reset girl's pose manually (from the person -> control panel) and then reload it. The plugin tries to automatically reset the pose at every start but it's not always perfect.

Please remember the furniture list known by the girl, below. You can delete and add duplicates but there always must be one and only one couch with the guy over it. Also, don't create steeplechases and create a regular environment as the standard room provided, please.

Limitations and caveats

- Consider always that anima and obsessions are mutually exclusive. Every time you choose one of them you lose the previous settings. You can check your current choice looking at the yellow info box at the lower left corner of the UI.

- The Enchanter room tries to load 500+ audio files at the beginning, but it doesn't need to do that again if you just reset the plugin.  The songs for the dancing load at the beginning too (but can changed and reloaded in real time via UI).

- Being it totally procedural, there can be better and worse runs.

- Some behaviours have really a large spectrum of possibilities, so some unlucky variations are unavoidable.

In the end

And we're done, finally. This release really sucked my blood, I'm happy is over and can start a new cycle. The work done here is massive and 1.23 will take advantage of it for sure.
