Introducing Commissions
Added 2022-03-30 17:39:52 +0000 UTCHey Patrons! I wanted to give you an update on something I've been longing to try. Starting next month, I'm going to be accepting custom art commissions! It's going to involve some changes to my workflow, which I'll outline in this post.
Why are commissions being offered?
Simply put, I am feeling more confident about the quality of my output. I'm becoming more efficient and consistent. I'm very impressed with what I'm producing these days, and I'm sure you agree!
Commissions give Patrons and non-patrons the opportunity to order custom artwork from me. It's the next logical step in my evolution as an artist. It'll incentivize me to continue improving my art quality.
What's the difference between commissions and requests?
I launched the Super Fan tier in 2020, which gave members the ability to feed me art ideas. I treated the requests as pseudo-commissions. It gave me the motivation to keep drawing throughout the pandemic and allowed me to expand my creative horizons. I like art requests for their low pressure and creative freedom. I plan to keep doing them in some capacity.
Art requests have a few limitations. First and foremost, the artworks are Patreon exclusives. I post preview thumbnails to help market my page and get new subscribers. Requests are done at my discretion, and arrive "as-is". I tend to do them very fast, so they come with few revisions and may have more artistic mistakes. Requests are also only available to higher-tier members.
Commissions by their nature shouldn't have those limits. The art can be posted publicly after it's done (in fact, I plan to post them to my public gallery). Clients can be as specific as they want, and I'll do my best to oblige. Paid commissions will receive a higher level of attention from me. Revisions can be done if they are reasonable. Commissions can be ordered by anyone in the world.
How will commissions and Patreon requests be balanced?
This will be a work in progress while I determine the demand for commissions. Ideally, I would have an equal balance between the two (i.e., 3 commissions and 3 requests per month). I would probably alternate between doing commissions and requests.
This means as commission work increases, requests will get spread out over several months. I'll maintain an ongoing list of requests, and will pull from the list when I'm ready to do one.
How are commissions ordered?
I'm using Ko-fi for commission orders. See https://ko-fi.com/sleepycomics for how it's done. I like how Ko-fi provides an easy interface for selecting commission options. It integrates with all major credit cards. If for some reason you want to use an alternate payment method (like Paypal), message me and we can work it out.
Prices start at $60 USD for a fully colored piece and go up if you want more characters. Pretty standard. If you ask nicely I'll even offer simple variants for free (not many artists do this!)
Payment is required upfront before I start. If you are unsure I'll accept the commission, message me beforehand. If you order one, and then change your mind (or I decline the commission), a refund will be given.
There will be a limited number of commission slots per month, which I'll adjust as I figure out the workload. It'll probably be around 3 or 4.
Are there any benefits for Patrons?
Yes! Patrons on the $5 tier will get a 10% discount on commissions. Super Fans get a 20% discount. It's a really good deal, on top of all the exclusive artwork you get as a Patron. Message me beforehand and I'll give you a Ko-fi discount code.
Are there any content restrictions?
I tend to keep my artwork PG-13 rated, which makes it easier to deal with payment processors. Just look through my gallery to see what I'm comfortable with. I mostly stick with sleepy and bondage peril and don't really veer into other fetishes. I can also draw non-peril artwork if you are interested (think character designs or pin-ups). I'm very responsive, so just message me if you are unsure!
That's it! Thank you all for your continued support. Leave a comment if you have any questions.
I look forward to the commissions you guys order. Visit https://ko-fi.com/sleepycomics to get started!
