The thing about this episode is that there is a real life relationship behind it. Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy) worked on a soap opera with a very young actress, Michelle Trachtenberg (Dawn). Sarah sort of appointed herself Trachtenberg's unofficial babysitter and years later when the role of Dawn opened up Gellar pushed hard for Michelle Trachtenberg to get the role. They've stayed close over the years, Sarah's husband helped teach Trachtenberg how to drive for example. So when you see two sisters dealing with each other, in a sense you are actually seeing two sisters deal with each other.
