I think, pretty sure, he has said the band he went out on the road w, at this age, was The Allman Bros. There’s a story about Gregg Allman changing his mind and deciding he didn’t want the story written. After speaking w Crowe, he changed his mind and gave him his tapes back.

2024-03-24 02:37:23 +0000 UTCJust got a chance to watch this video; fun as always. As others have pointed out, the band Crowe actually followed for his Rolling Stone story was Led Zeppelin. Stillwater was actually modeled after Bad Company (right down to the lead singer's hair and the design of the t-shirt). But a couple things to mention: 1) Alex you're correct, Zep was very stingy about using their music in other projects. However at this time Crowe was married to Nancy Wilson of Heart (she wrote some of the songs that Stillwater played and scored the movie). Zep liked Heart and Crowe, so they allowed all those great songs to be used. 2) Andy, not sure why William's crush on Penny was "cringey"; they are almost the same age. If anything, it's Russell's crush (and sexual encounters) that are creepy since he's at least 10 years older than her (not to mention that her being under 17 makes those encounters illegal. 3) Although I love listening to your reactions, you've got to be a little more careful with your asides. Case in point, at then end of the film, Alex's remark about not sitting in a chair like Russell almost drowned out one of the best lines in the movie. William asks "So Russell, what do you love about music?" Russell answers "To begin with, everything."
