Quick(ish) Update Whilst Still Working On Things

Just wanted to say I'm still here for those not really following along especially as I've not been super obvious on social media by not having announced the recent beta & preview builds from the past few months plus I know a fair number won't have been looking at the forum or vaguely keeping up with what's been done on the discord server along with the emails I get.

Currently I'm trying out a slightly different way of working on the builds as part of the fallout from some of the pre...

WACUP Beta Build #21066

Finally the first build of 2025 which is somewhat late in happening against where I'd been planning to be by now but sometimes better late than never. There's around 100 lines in the changelog since the last #20678 beta build.

The aim is for either this beta build or a small update depending on what issues may initially appear with it to go out as the newest preview build early next week (start of March 2025) though it won't be flagged via the update system until later in the month whic...

WACUP 2024 Look Back & Beta Build 1.99.24.20678

After the 'fun' of a month ago I've finally got a new beta build up (changelogs for it as normal are at https://getwacup.com/changelog/). This won't be going up as a new preview build since its too close to the holidays now & there's some aspects needing more testing & there's a few things I've still got to resolve that were reported against build 20202 (don't worry if I've not responded to some of those bug repor...

Me

Last Thursday my body decided to try to replicate the alien chest burster scene which means I'm posting this quick update from hospital.

Am hoping to get home later this week but coding, etc is on hold for a while until I've recovered.

[Edit Thursday 29th]
I got back home late Tuesday & am feeling better for it. My tummy still needs to get back to normal which is going to take from a few weeks to a few months for different aspects.

My hands are sor...

WACUP Preview Build 1.99.22.20202

Last time I'll mention that any build prior to 1.99.20.19994 going back to 1.99.11.18916 will require manually updating to get onto a build that will be able to correctly report there's an update (unless you're "lucky" & are having crashes with those older builds).

Onto today's 1.99.22.20202 builds & ignoring some of the unhelpful distraction from this week, the fortnight of work since the last build makes for a relatively smaller changelog than normal so t...

WACUP Preview Build 1.99.21.20088

Quick reminder that any build prior to 1.99.20.19994 going back to 1.99.11.18916 will require manually updating to get onto a build that will be able to correctly report there's an update (unless you're "lucky" & are having crashes with those older builds).

As for today's 1.99.21.20088, I described it in the beta releases thread notes as "refinement rather than anything revolutionary" which sometimes is what a build needs to be. As such this one has focused on a number of things tha...

WACUP Preview Build 1.99.20.19994

The crappy bit first, the new version prompt has been broken for all of the 2024 preview builds since April which only came to light around 2 weeks ago for which being annoyed with myself is still an understatement.

Manually updating to the new build is required unless you're one of the lucky ones where the build crashes on you & the post-crash prompting is still being triggered. So please let others that might be using WACUP know & my apologies for breaking this when ironi...

WACUP Preview Build 1.99.15.19320

WACUP build 1.99.15.19320 went up last night as a quick fix for an ironic crash from a change meant to avoid crashes (sorry to all for that) & a memory leak.

The continuing releases of the 1.99.x beta builds (1.99.14.19294 & 1.99.15.19312)

A few weeks on since build 19100 went up as a preview build & it's now being replaced with build 19312.

This new build primarily brings changes to how the history & local library db files are saved to resolve the unacceptable number of crash reports that the old build(s) have been generating.

The cumulative changelog between the builds is at https://getwacup.com/pre...

WACUP build 1.99.13.19100 just went up as the latest preview build which aims to resolve the main crash issue happening with the prior 1.99.12.18980 preview build. https://getwacup.com/preview/preview_1_99_13_19100.html details just the changes made between the builds.

The past 3 & a half weeks have been somewhat frantic hence the lack of updates on here with the 3 noted builds along with 2 interim builds that were posted on the beta sub-section of the forum & numerous user specific test builds to finally get to today's releasing of build 18980 as the new preview build to replace 2021's build 7236 at last!

The 1.99.x beta builds (1.9.7.18654 & 1.99.8.18716)

Another month almost done & as a non chocolatey treat there's finally 2 new beta builds (we won't talk about the one that was pulled) which has been a bit of a bumpy one but has also been a hopefully move in the right direction now I'm looking back at all of the changes that have gone into them (especially with this week & the on-going local library plug-in related issues which build 18716 should improve).

Not sure what to call out from the builds compared to the prior be...

WACUP Development Update December 2023 Through February 2024

A 3 month update wasn't on the plans but the end of year update went out of the window & then the last 2 months have flown by so I'll try to keep this update fairly brief.

Since the last update at the end of November, beta build 1.99.3.18106 went up mid January & a lot of the things that were hoping to help do appear to have met my expectations. The build however like any good beta buil...

WACUP Development Update November 2023

If anyone knows where the 2 weeks I seem to have lost this month have gone then I'd be much appreciative as I've obviously not managed to get a new beta build done this month despite the plan of last month's update so I'm a bit miffed with myself.

Things have been progressing though it's been slow going fixing the stuff that really shouldn't have been wrong but sadly was & seems to explain a lot of the odd issues I've not been able to replicate for some time that have been cropping ...

WACUP Development Update October 2023

Unfortunately no treats to play with today as October has been a bit of a messy month from having taken one of the two full weeks I typically take off a year & then effectively spending 2 of the remaining 3 weeks just working through the crash reports that have been coming in from the preview build (so many duplicate reports from some users which make it feel like the issues are worse than they are vs what seems to be the case for the majority of users as best I can determine).

The 1.9.x beta builds (1.9.3.15332 to 1.9.12.16242)

I'm still here & plugging away. Since the last post 4 months ago there's been 10 beta builds, a whole load of interim / dev builds & the replacement local library is now (mostly) loading the expected artwork as of today's build #16242 along with a mass of changes, fixes & a hopefully more stable program than it had been.

There's still more work needed on this new feature as I'm not super happy with the speed of loading the images but it should now be usable to make testing e...

Progress towards the initial 1.9.x beta build

As some of you may have seen, I posted a screenshot a few days ago on social media showing off an in-progress change related to WACUP's non-legacy mode where modern skins will finally be usable under it. As such we're now into the 1.9.x series of builds :)

Since then I've been improving my implementation of the apis that the modern skin engine plug-in (gen_ff) required from the original winamp program exe to work & it's gradually coming together with most of the stability issues I'v...

WACUP Beta Builds #14132 through #14638 (5 builds)

Some might've noticed I've been mostly quiet on social media this year (just not feeling things) but I've been diligently working away at things with 5 beta builds since the start of year (1.8.15.14132 through 1.8.21.14638)

Changelogs for the builds are at https://getwacup.com/changelog/

These builds have also reduced how many supporting dlls from 5.666 are needed for them to work (see 2023-02-24 15:17:18 +0000 UTC View Post
