Felony Friday - Justified

We have been living in a world on edge. Questionable police officer-involved shootings have been captured on video and gone viral, highlighting law enforcement in a distinctly transparent and often negative capacity. But what happens when those who walk the so-called “thin blue line” are forced with potentially life-threatening lethal force themselves? Are their actions to neutralize those presenting lethal force questionable, or lawful and justified - or in some cases, both?

This is one of my biggest fears, getting a call that my Mom has been shot dead by cops or anybody else because she was having an episode. She too has paranoid schizoaffective disorder and barely stays on her meds and lies to her psychiatrist about how bad her episodes get. She is also an immigrant with a heavy Asian accent that most people can't understand her and it gets heavier when she is manic and escalating. She gets extremely aggressive too. Our systems and safety nets are failing us, and intentionally so. We need mental health experts that work in tandem with cops on these mental health crisis emergencies. Cops need to be trained to de-escalate, stop having every cop yelling different commands that confuses people and stop getting trained by David Grossman that is an ex Ranger that teaches cops "the warrior mindset" and created a psychology"discipline" called Killology. These are a few ideas. Since we pay the cops salaries and their court settlements for a laundry list of wrong doings, we should have a say in how their work ethics should be shaped.

With the status of the world, I am amazed there are even still police officers. It's such a dangerous job in reality and now everybody is all up in arms "us vs them" making it even more dangerous for them. My police officer friends tell me they have a hard time sleeping and suffer major anxiety on and off the job as well as PTSD from the things they've seen. If our country put more emphasis on helping mentally ill people and drug addicted people it would solve so many problems.
