Future Direction of 3DBonfire + Houdini especially for C4D-Artists/3D-Generalists

Hi Friends,

I thought a bit about my next plans as a freelance 3d artist and what feels to be the right next step as a youtube/patreon/instagram tutorial-guy/mentor;-).

Let me keep it short: I want to commit to add Houdini simulations to my toolkit! But I´m only interested in adding it´s fluid/softbodies/grains/particles simulation capabilities to my Cinema 4D workflow and NOT abandon Maxon.

C4D will stay my ideal place for 90% of my daily design workflow, I honestly couldn´t think of a faster and more elegant design tool for most of my workflow with clients. But it definitely still lacks some of the really powerful simulation features and I want to bridge that gap with Houdini.

In addition, I also want to keep an eye on JangaFX Embergen/LiquiGen so it might be a combination of Houdini and JangaFX + C4D lessons the next weeks/months, but let´s just see.

My idea is to slowly - but steady - grow 3DBonfire into a good ressource/learning-place especially for those artists who want to stay in their main software (Cinema 4D;-) but like to add Houdini (the most powerful simulation tool) and/or JangaFX Elemental Suite (probably the fastest) into their design workflow with clients.

And the focus should be on keeping those upcoming lessons super-easy and only share workflows that everyone can understand without writing code or crazy complexity that would scare you off.

I actually would love to grow 3DBonfire into a place which will be not just known for it´s easy C4D / design techniques but also as a good ressource for beginner-friendly Houdini knowledge! But yeah, just dreaming a bit and making big plans this morning;-)!

Let´s just see how it goes and it could be that houdini overwhelms me and I have to give up on my idea but at least... I wanted to put some pressure on me!

Alright! Of course I will also have new training for you soon.

Have a nice day everyone!

Markus

Yes, you might be right, I mightjust keep Houdini as some additional content but of course focus on C4D

I know it's probably the right directions. But, I'd prefer staying in C4D and adding Insydium and JangaFX, just to keep it software-focused. I did a deep dive in Houdini six years ago, and it was a 12k investment (me and some studio guys) that sadly failed. I just couldn't get my head around it. Let alone code. It seems to be one of those apps that you need to "live in" and not so much dabble as needed to be good in it. But i do not doubt its power. Anyhow, I'm along for the ride and see where it goes!

Yes, exactly. It´s just the logical next step and I´m also afraid of this VEX stuff and the intense complexity but...I want to make this crazy power easily understandable for artists like you and me!

Great news, I couldn’t agree more I’m very excited to see more Houdini from you.

I'm really happy to see this! I've just begun learning Houdini too for pretty much the same reasons. Its so intimidating especially with the VEX language but determined to continue pushing on as its just such a powerful tool! Looking forward to seeing what you do with it! :D

Great! Yes, I think thats just the best workflow and I´m up for it.

This is the workflow I’m moving towards so I’d love to see you move in this direction and teach about it. I’ve also seen a lot of Houdini artists who like using JangaFX in Houdini, so it must be a good thing.
