We've got a special guest for this episode of Clocktower. You may have seen her for Season 2 of BOTC Live - it's BECCA SCOTT everybody!

This month, our lovely cast is playing Trouble Brewing On Expert Mode. Surely, ours folks must be experts by now.

I think I have the reverse opinion. I don't like people ragging on his personality he doesn't seem like a bad guy at all just quirky which is fine. But in terms of playing the game I think some of it was a little confusing. When he was executed at the end, he was so okay with it that everyone was shocked that he was the demon. It was such a low-key whatever humdrum attitude. You can bluff that you don't mind dying but give a reason why you shouldn't die! You're the demon! Also turning his last alive minion into the barber so that they'll have to die to benefit which erases any chance of using the ability as an escape hatch (and on top on it they could've been the poisoner instead!) was a bit out there for strategy.

Andrew

Don't get the Sam hate from a mechanical point of view. He played this game perfectly reasonably based on the options available. I understand that he's quite quirky and it can be irritating. But variety is the spice of life and we wouldn't want it getting stale. Also on a related note, I'd love to see Isaac come back.

T Pearson

As someone who is good personal friends with Jon Gracey, I would like to inform his #1 fan that he probably doesn't want you to say things like this about one of his other good friends. - Ben

Blood on the Clocktower

Almost every single game on day 1, Mara: 'Hi (blank) I'm sorry about this, we haven't really spoken'. She could be unintentionally nominating a virgin playing evil, or accidentally get the saint killed. She does this whether she's playing for good or evil and it never backfires πŸ˜… True chaotic neutral

Jellythorpe

And here's me exercising my right to say that you're a bellend. Think of how much more pleasantly this conversation could have gone if you hadn't "exercised your right" to be a jerk to people for no reason. We could have been talking about, say, a board game instead. Oh, to think of what could have been.

Matilda Renman

Yeah, this comment section is insane. No wonder so many people no longer take part in these videos anymore - I wouldn't either, if it meant opening myself up to this kind of stuff for playing extremely normally! For god's sake, we have people genuinely making arguments against "if you don't have anything good to say, say nothing at all" - what is going on here??? Jesus H Christ, people.

Matilda Renman

Hey gang so the cast members read these comments. Probably don't be a jerk <3

Burgundy

I was behind and playing catch up. That means I saw all the Sam comments before watching and I....don't get it. At all.

Lindsay M.H.

lol at β€œJohn Gracys #1 Fan”calling someone cringey.

Hannah Balkovec

I pretty sure Becca is newer to the game as well compare to thr other guest.

Al vs Al according to nrb wiki. Here's link to the script https://botc-scripts.azurewebsites.net/script/3686/2.3.0

Alix Humbles

I don't have "nice" things to say about him, but I can still exercise my right to say he's the most annoying person they have. People can say what they want, don't hate on us because it's true... he's cringey.

John Gracys #1 Fan

I really dont even see how he played that badly tbh no one really suspected him at all for ages.

noob2568 /John Smith

100% agree. Sam has tested me... I've thought about leaving this amazing page because of that guy. Everyone else is awesome, but he's a bad apple.

John Gracys #1 Fan

Totally agree... He is awkward and doesn't fit into everyone else which gels.

John Gracys #1 Fan

It is definitely one of Daddy Ben's quirks as a Storyteller. His Savant information is often extremely difficult to unwind to the point that even with all the information it can take awhile to work out which is the true statement (as both can initially seem true/untrue). It probably helps being able to do that when running a Drunk/Poisoned Savant as you are already well practiced in misleading statements.

Darren Foster

Right?! As a WrestleTalk fan I was watching some of the other stuff because I knew some of the people, and honestly I don't think at this point I would leave personally, but I admit that Clocktower was the sole reason I started PAYING for the privilege. Oh, and now I watch ALL the other stuff🀣

Micah Newby

Without fanfare. We'll be suspicious of the fanfare

Micah Newby

So weird to see people being so mean to Sam, if you don't have anything nice to say shutting up is free! I love having the mix of experiance on the games, it makes it more fun to watch. I thought this was great!

Haley

If they didn't a lot of people would leave as they were the main reason many signed up to the Patreon to start with lol.

Lee Dellbridge

He's not a newbie he plays a lot elsewhere. But sometimes you just have a bad game.

Lee Dellbridge

I really like Becca, would love to see her back in the future.

Paul Thomson

Geez so much hate for Sam just for being a newbie as if we didn't watch every NRB regular start playing awfully at BotC too

NihilismRacoon

I love Sam! He's not any worse at it than some other players, so it balances out.

ElloryQueen

Whats the other script?

Thomas Hauser

Yeah agreed, I really don't get why people are being dicks to the guy. This just feels like a skill/experience difference, most of the cast has been playing for years and Sam strikes me as someone who doesn't have as much experience (at least being evil, which is so much more nervewracking lol). Of course there's going to be play differences there! And that's fine, although I feel for the guy, but I think this is a good group to learn in because it's welcoming and forgiving which is exactly what newcomers need: To be allowed to learn what the best strategies are and how to improvise in this incredibly complicated game. I think the NRB people excel at that kind of welcoming vibe, and it's so beautiful to see in a field like board gaming, which has been plagued by accusations of gatekeeping and elitism for decades now. Unlike parts of this comment section, which seems to think newcomers should begone lest they make a "bad" play, and that they deserve to be ridiculed for it. Jesus christ, go outside and touch some grass and stop saying mean things to people you don't know. It's really not that hard to not say mean things.

Matilda Renman

I got to be honest... Sam is the most annoying person on this... to the point I may even stop watching? I'm sorry to say... but he's cringey and takes away the enjoyment of the game.

John Gracys #1 Fan

Ahh, good point!

Will Seamon

I don't want to pile on Sam here. I like him, and he has good chemistry with the others. He does remind me of Blair though when she first started playing, in that he just needs to work on his bluffing when he is evil because right now it seems pretty obvious. He also kind of got screwed in this game with doing an empath bluff while sitting next to a recluse, and then Ivan getting capped on day one. I still had a good time though, and maybe next time he will get 'em.

Steven Scott

sam see is painful to watch

danstan

It feels since forever that the evil team won!

Adam Ferris

genuinely, for april fool's, you guys should upload a five minute game with lots of fanfare. would be absolutely hilarious. Loved this ep - the first game was so unfortunate in who got which token, because it probably would've been amazing had it played out, but I think so many just got the exact right (or wrong, depending on how you look at it) role for this group to figure out atheist. Holly with slayer, tilly with atheist, blair with investigator... They're not the kinds of people you immediately think would bluff their respective roles. But it's still impressive on the whole group to still figure it out so fast! Talk about trusting the social cues :p

Matilda Renman

I couldn't stop breaking up at the "enjoy your ten minute video, idiots" bits lmfao. you can really tell when this was filmed, love it

Matilda Renman

Thought it was super funny! Hahah

Daniel BjΓΈrge

A bit off-putting for me to have a relatively new guest like Chris (who I actually like to see play these games) make fun of the patrons who complained about the brief BOTC content.

Daniel Taylor

You should've made the "still here" link present on patreon and not just YouTube. It just feels like a weird wall against the patreon subscribers who are also the only people who could access the link and video in the first place

rojowo

amazing game :) i want to see laurie play again

Elucify 𑁍

Tilly getting the atheist token was unlucky for the storytellers. She's not the type to bluff atheist.

Pablo Klimek

Also a bit of meta that expert mode introduce Legion and the Atheist, and the belief was that as a result, they were either playing a Legion game or an Athiest game, and they were able to get, what they believed to be sufficient evidence that it wasn't a Legion game. I think it was Holly killing Tilly that really convinced people, since that verified that Holly was the slayer, and that the game rules were being broken. I think if Athiest had been around in the rule set for a while they might not have been so quick to expect an Athiest game/less likely to believe Tilly.

John

I don't mind getting two shorter games in a video

No Name

Ben ready getting close to the mic whilst Laurie calls him professional ✨✨

Kalle

I like Sam

Xavexgoem

thats not the only reason they did it, that was just them joking about it. there where enough things that made people believe it was a real athiest game. the investigator showing Tilly or Dom as Baron was a massive clue for both of them because if Tilly was evil she was a minion not a demon so wouldn't have died. if the investigator was drunk then tilly cant be the drunk and if the investigator isnt the drunk then one of them should be a minion which makes no sense if you are either of them. there where also 2 empaths and everyone felt good about eachother

Scar Gb

However the other statement was true, as Sam did choose an evil player in the night. Just not for his ability, but to barber swap.

Lian Vervoort

Thank you for the video!

Xavexgoem

Sam seems maybe not a good fit for this game unfortunately.

JB

I feel like wanting to execute STs on day 1 because you don't like playing in an atheist game isn't a great attitude to have, personally. You still get to play the game, but you are on the lookout for clues as to whether your fellow players or your storytellers are lying to you.

Jamison Giles

That Savant info on day 2 of the second game was incorrect. The correct statement there was supposed to be that one of Becca’s neighbors was selected by a Townsfolk the night before, referring to Dom selecting Sullivan, but Dom was an outsider.

Will Seamon

The only reason i sign up for Patreon is getting to be called a "fuck" by John. I truly makes my month!

Daniel BjΓΈrge

EPIC start LMAO

Stuart Reed

I did not realize you were still doing the monthly Patron games post-season! That's very exciting!

Chas Evans

Ah, I’d just assumed there would be public zoom ones to replace the in person ones until a new kickstarter. Thanks for the update!

Pablo Amaya

The public in person games were a limited 6 episode series backed on kickstarter Until they do another kickstarter it will just be the patreon monthly games

Andrew Farmer

Excited thank you! No public one as well this month tho?

Pablo Amaya

Becca is awesome I'm glad to see her on a zoom version!
