We know you studied history; but what exactly is your academic background? Also, a book recommendation?

2020-08-26 20:51:17 +0000 UTCMaybe this is too personal but I'm wondering if you have family and friends who know of your political beliefs that don't "agree". I'm asking because I have some hesitation with conversations that are political with my mom in particular, as her brother was murdered for advocating for worker's rights in her home country of Guatemala. This has made her very skeptical and jaded towards a worker's movement. Do you have any experience with talking to people like this? Or talking to family about political beliefs. Again, if this is too personal, you really don't need to answer.

2020-08-26 06:37:36 +0000 UTCDo you have any text or videos you could recommend on Allende, Sankara, or Che? (Or if you rather answer a more casual, fun question: any favorite good bad movies?)

2020-08-05 11:05:49 +0000 UTCI live in Dominican Republic and I am noticing some sectors of the ruling and political commentary class trying to ideologically muddle our politics with anti-left rhetoric (calls for the recently winning party to leave the Sao Paulo Forum) and libertarian bullshit (scrutinizing government spending from a stance that needlessly uses communism fearmongering and free market fetish). Points of view that have clearly been imported to the country from libertarian and conservative think tanks in the United States and abroad. I'm obviously all for our government working its way out of corruption, eliminating unnecessary departments and making it work for the people, but I consider fostering this left/right divide into our political discourse could be detrimental to our development. How would you make sure the efforts to improve government are not dominated by a deceptive small government narrative? Specially in a country where most people don't have any idea what efforts like that would lead to nor are most people familiar with these left/right political divides.
