FOA Broke

Hey Folks. Still on a break from things but also still busy? What do you even call that kinda thing? A lie? Well anyway, I got something I should bring up with y'all. None of this is set in stone, but I wanna just be upfront about the road I'm lookin' down.

Doing a longer, serialized webcomic in the year of our lord 2023 doesn't feel or hit the same as it did in the heyday of the internet. Not to say one can't do it, but the nature of being online has changed. Nothing you didn't already know!

But as I think about that and where I wanted to take Funny Online Animals after this past arc, the more it felt hollow to try. The more I just didn't wanna. I brought back all the old baggage from Gunshow that I wanted to leave behind and it was made more apparent when the 10 year anniversary of "This is Fine" happened. And when I posted that last page of the arc to the public, I felt dread that I had to come back to FOA eventually and make something more out of what felt, well, Done. So I'm looking into maybe just laying FOA to rest right where it is now.

Nothing is set in stone yet (or ever) but I have asked the powers that be at Comics Kingdom if there's some kind of work around with my contract I signed with them. Not because they own the strip or own what I do, but because they allowed me room to do what I wanted to and the space to be weird (within reason) and try. I'm just giving them a simple professional courtesy and letting them know where I stand.

I've offered something else to CK in FOA's stead that would still get eyes on their site with comics that are more, let's say, Shareable. But I've yet to hear back how they want to handle it all. I'm in a unique position to try and change, but I feel like I test everyone's patience when I do. And while I'd like to ask you to forgive me, which is my usual M.O., I won't. That's just where I'm at right now. Take it or leave it.
