Not sure about Elf lifespan mechanics in this universe, but in other series like Lord of the Rings, Elves are basically immortal and typically only die from things like battle. If you've lived for thousands of years, 10 years might just feel like a week passing by. When your time is limitless, there is no such thing as wasting your time, so dedicating 6 months to finding a single flower isn't an issue. There are a lot of things we COULD do as humans, but choose not to, as we deduce that the time spent is not worth the outcome. That scale is completely different for an Elf. Interesting dynamic, especially with Fern involved now
