Just to say this, I think you should watch a more sports anime after this one. Basketball wise there is Kuroko no Basket, but I think that Hajime No Ippo is more like Haikyuu. You see someone putting in the work, fighting through the struggle on multiple levels.

You can tell he means well when he's telling them to "get the ball higher up". It's dope to see Kageyama leading the team as the setter. Just goes to show how well the development is for all the characters in this show.
