When doing a story webcomic that updates page by page, a good rule is to keep a joke or have something happen at least by the end of the page that keeps people still engaged to want to come back and read more. That's why I put so much in each page, cus I also wanted to tell each arc rather quickly. Given that I'm "updating" in chunks on the site, I can give myself some leeway in that thinking. Crange is interrupted by the next page, but you won't see that til I draw it and finish it and etc so forth.
It makes me want to approach a story differently when doing them online. I've worked by updating page after page for so long in front of a lot of people, that now I'd rather maybe work on a story all at once and put that out when it's done. Like a damn author or something. Like a damn cartoonist.
Not saying there isn't room story-based comics online, it's just different how people take it in, compared to a simple gag comic with no previous knowledge needed to appreciate it. It's weird and something I constantly think about w/r/t what I want to do next after Crange closes, BACK finishes, and Pinocchio stops. Where do I want to go from there. Not sure, not sure. Actually, SORTA sure. But that could change within a year, within a month, or tomorrow, depending on what comes my way. Be flexible. That's all I can be for now.
