state of the goon-ion
Added 2014-08-06 21:39:56 +0000 UTCjust want to let yall in on whats happening in my professional life right now. With the ending of Graveyard Quest around the corner, I wanted to focus on another long-form comic idea (besides BACK) and am now pitching some ideas to BoomBOX! to see if anything sticks. Heres my pitches and possible things you might see soon. •Carlo Collodi’s Pinocchio An adaptation of Collodi’s original story, not the disney one everyone knows better. The original, while very much a tale for children, has a dark and absurd air that I’d like to expand on. It reminds me of how Bushmiller’s Nancy today is seen as absurd genius. It’s not going to be a parody or self aware 4th wall breaking farce, but just a more straight-faced adaptation that let’s the original quiet weirdness of the story take the wheel. As the original is 36 chapters long and I feel it could make a good 6 issue mini-series. This could change, as I need to remind myself of the original story, but I feel the most confident to tackle it. •Forest Fwends Based on some characters from my comic Gunshow. It follows the everyday happenings of friends from the forest: Billie the fox, the rabbits, snakes, ducks, Baba Yaga Jr, Edwidge Inkerton (rich philanthropist who owns the national park everyone lives in), Kane the scary park caretaker, Cool Frog, Great Frog, and others. It would be more of a ensemble comedy where they deal with certain things that day. Like a flea market that everyone participates in at the forest or when a labyrinth pops up in the forest with everyone inside it. Or when Inkerton has to sell some of the land to offices and the animals find themselves in cubicles for an issue. Could be an ongoing series or a mini series to see how it feels. •NOIR-PARODY series (no title as of yet) An absurd take on the Noir genre, mostly relating to odd and offbeat crimes that everyone in the world takes very seriously. One story I have written follows a duo looking for a pair of missing legs. Another they could be solving a murder on Mars. Still in a very hard-boiled manner. I would be working on this with John Keogh as co-writer cus I feel I could open his head into some good ideas you can’t get no where else. I would be drawing it myself. John could do some covers, he likes that.

The scene that really sticks in my mind is the one where his head gets caught in a hole in the ground and (iirc) he thinks he's going to die there. I'd love to see it if you end up turning that one into a comic.
