According to scholars, the slow but steady extinction of the Droplhorses might – among other reasons – be linked to its slow reproduction rate. If there is any larva at all, it is usually the only one among a group of adult Droplhorses. Despite its little size, it is far from being defenseless and constitutes a more than beneficial addition to the swarm. Already equipped with the bioluminescence of a Droplhorse, the larva can alter its chemicals to produce a unique poison making the victim more vulnerable to the adults' attacks. If not accompanied by a swarm, scattered Droplhorse larvas are believed to take shelter in deep coral reefs or dense kelp forests.
