Reese's muttered comment is overtaken by Becca's exasperated exclamation, although both of their tones come through with you stuck in the middle. The back row of your car has never felt this snug. Becca's hand leaves where it's around your middle to point at Reese who has an arm casually looped around your shoulders. You nearly shiver because her natural body heat was something you'd gotten used to, greedily cuddling one of your best friends. It's Reese who you're actually more worried about—his faint tremors that he's playing off with ease.
Preserving your body heat has also fanned the flames of a debate between the two of them.

Is it something hiding in the darkness but is invisible outside of wavering? Or possibly is there some kind of veil hiding whatever is (possibly) watching us? Or is it just the darkness itself being weird? OR are we just super stressed out and the harder we look, the more our mind makes something up to see? Personally, I think the latter is the least likely theory. Considering all of the other Fernweh weirdness, but I bet that is something that may give pause to some believers and perhaps something skeptics may try to cling to.... S is so caring and hot in this writing, the poem, the MC's favorite scents in the bath, no real candles - only electric ones - I love how much time they must have spent on this bath for the MC. And the way they wanted to comfort the MC, but S also needs comforting because she must have been inwardly frantic when all of them disappeared. Your honor, I love her.
