Author's View: Turning Over a New… Page?

[Alternate Text: A picture of the interior of a cat cafe. It has an industrial vibe with polished cement floors, exposed stone pillars, and bartop lights in metal casings. Beyond that style, there are also complex wooden structures around the pillars and a freestanding cat jungle gym in the center of the room. There are a few customers seated at benches along the walls, enjoying their drinks while the cats can roam or play in their areas, choosing to engage or to observe people.]

*respectfully averts my eyes while soaking in this detail about Josh* I always love learning which themes (room or TTP) Returning Visitors pick! 💚Maybe I should make a ramble about the grandfather's views on the themes? The one that stays true to his tastes has a nod to the TFS grandmother that's bittersweet. That being said, Josh's theme seems like a good match with those unresolved issues. I'll be eager to see how he handles a particular revelation in an upcoming drop. (It's painful. :D)

don't look at me replying to this after 1 year, but learning which TTP themes that grandpa hates has me going 👀 ...Josh chooses the modern design and I had no idea that grandpa hates it, and he also has unresolved issues with grandpa, HOORAY!!!

Oh, I hadn't realized that it was one of your favorite places in Fernweh, so this makes my heart full that its memories/history stood out to you even during the first book. 📚 (I did like how it served as a coming together/re-meeting point after the intense info-gathering sections.) I'm glad that Turn the Page (along with its future story relevance) has been on your mind since learning about the MC's extended stay in town. That excites me that you're wondering about what's next for the series! As for the shop's theme, I do think that the MC's grandfather would be beyond touched at the MC preserving his original design intent (even if I also like the symmetry of cats for Marcie). He was a very sentimental man; I know you've uncovered scenes that allude to this but even the description of his design highlights it. (It almost makes you realize how much his isolation must have been a self-punishment that took a lot of willpower. >.>) Hmm, I think his own bias--both in taste and how he likes some character more than others--would come into play with the other design themes. Knowing the shop would be enjoyed by the community could curb some of his reactions since Turn the Page having a more modern theme is better than it being derelict. He would have the most problems with the Viennese Coffee House (*sighs* yes, due to R's involvement; plus, it being more classy rather than homey), the Buckbrews Knockoff (he would detest that), and the modern one (he'd think it's too sleek). (I'm looking at what you said about his feelings regarding R due to the absence; I can't say more due to spoilers... :< I do think the TFS grandfather would prefer not to look at R.) (Yes, I know that hint is extremely thought-provoking.) Thank you for such a lovely comment along with well wishes! 💚🥰 I hope you're doing well too.

Turn the Page is one of my favorite places in Fernweh! 📚☕ I remember after playing TFS: Book One for the first time hoping that we’d be able to determine how involved with TtP our MCs would get to be due to their current circumstances, so I’m very delighted this is something you’re introducing in Book Two (with variations to account for different MCs’ feelings). I have a strong urge to choose the Cat Café theme for TtP for Marcie so that her B&B room and the bookstore are both cat-themed. 🐈 But since many of her treasured memories took place in Turn the Page, it’s the one place that feels most like home to her in the present, so her nostalgia and love for her grandfather means she could never change it from his original vision (plus, she favors it over the others as well). (I do wonder how the MC’s grandfather would feel about the different designs and how the others can step in to help with those changes. I have a suspicion that he’d be none too pleased about ‘the Verner brat’ having a hand in helping with the Viennese Coffee House since it feels like such a departure from the cozy vibes of his own design (unless his feelings about the Verner family and/or R in particular changed in the years the MC was away).) Thank you for this peek at how Turn the Page can/will continue to play its own role in the series. Wishing you a lovely and relaxing weekend. 🥰
