Lol, I can see J tenderly scooping Sparrow up in their arms, unless he bites (which I know he does), then it's over the shoulder time. 🥺🐈

Aelsa Trevelyan

J is such a meow meow. *slides Sparrow over towards them* he's basically a stray at this point.

Oh, wow, I'm actually really glad that this aspect of J came through during the scenes with the TFS dog. It was very intentional on my part to show that J was able to interpret her behavior, using an intuitiveness that went beyond B's fawning or S's kindness. 🐶 I'm not sure if you've triggered J's romanced dog scene, but it also influences some of their reactions with the puppy who seems to have taken a shine to the Detective. <3 You (and Marcie as a friend) believing they are good enough could do wonders for how they can come to see themself. *peeks at something in my notes and then stares at you* Maybe that can come up with JR. XD (Yes, it will come up. It's something R can be in slight awe over while J can soften once they realize more about why R cares about horses, oof.) How you're tempting me to say more about Mal. The use of 'selfless' in regards to them is very interesting; I'm sure you can imagine the remark they would make as if they can negate or explain away that one time they nearly wiped out to check on an animal beside the road. 🥺 It's something that readers may view as a clash or disconnect, especially depending on their feelings about 'the W', but that's why it's important. Bittersweet, heart-aching--yes, those track with Mal. I also can't wait for Marcie to bring Marigold around Mal; it'll be intriguing. There's a high chance that she will get to see their more genuine smile within seconds. Also, no worries! I can see your passion and care for your MC along with the characters. I'm very glad that you liked this question and its responses. 💚🥰

I feel like B would make one of the best parents there is, partially because they take such a genuine interest in their pet's well-being due to a fascination with animals along with considering cuddle-ability (?). I know for a fact you can relate to them! (Also, this is adorable for Marcie and Becca. I can vividly picture this; perhaps, it first started out because a foster home fell through, but then the two of them saw how well they can take care of the dogs, so the apartment became more common? I could see it as a way for them to grow closer as friends too!) (I love how you remember this detail about S! 🐟 Based on my notes, I'm going to say 'yes' and 'no', simply because I can see S also being the type to look out for pets in a given area or neighborhood. They would make mental notes, so it's not quite as intense as Mal who would scoop up the stray or change their entire route back home to check on said animal within the area.) You said it perfectly about how their natural consideration is apparent in how they treat animals in Book One; it's a very S trait. 💙 (Ugh, them keeping dog treats close at hand makes me melt too. 🥰 Also, how S wasn't at all fazed by the TFS's dog's /inhalation/ of said high-quality treats; instead, viewing it as 'sweet', lol.) Ms. Verner would appreciate your stance on the panther; however, R would be fully prepared to counter you with a powerpoint as to why they need a panther and could handle one. (Are they serious? Mostly not.) You're right that R's cat already acts with the gravitas of a wild cat, if not the audacity (as some would say.)Oh, that is an incredible question. We saw in Book One how even R couldn't really bring themself to look at the picture, so... Hmm. On the other hand, it's clear that they hold a lot of love for their father despite the years of loss. That is why they are not only fond of horses, but also vintage cars although someone else kind of helped with that. (You know who I mean!) Some of their passions do stem from remembrance despite how on bad days they don't want to ride in Angelique, let alone look at her. We will have to see how painful the reminders may be. 👀

I can't attach an image to a reply, but I'm thinking of that spiderman meme where two spidermans are pointing at each other in mild confusion. (I bet you've seen it on Tumblr.) I'm grinning at the idea of the MC and Mal just lingering around each other to catch a glimpse. It could actually be adorable! You're both keeping an eye on the other. :D 👀👀😘👀👀

Aelsa Trevelyan

You're welcome. I am certain you will use this knowledge for good to woo them--that persistence is something they'd take note of. 😉

Aelsa Trevelyan

I absolutely adore this fact about you and your husband! That's precious, and I agree that introducing a pet can bring so much joy. 🐈🐕 I'm certain J would feel more sure of themself with you by their side. They have a lot of love in that guarded heart of theirs (along with some hesitancy)--a pet could bring it out even more! :D

Aelsa Trevelyan

I love how Mal's response to this fascinated you! ❤ I agree with you that they have a penchant for always swerving or subverting expectations when sharing information about themself. I also hope a pet chooses them; it would be good for the both of them. Lol, you made me smile with the 'SEAMONSTER' mention. 🐱‍🐉 I can see S being open-minded enough for even the most unconventional of pets; a dire wolf or perhaps a baby spriggan would be lucky to have them as a friend. XD You're welcome! This was an awesome question, so thank you for sending it in. 💚

[2/2 J is so responsible and I completely understand their reasoning for wanting to be 100% sure they were ready/in a good position to have a pet, but they should never doubt themself being good enough. I felt like J—whether through their experience on the farm or a natural intuition—read and understood the dog and her intentions and feelings very well; it was also obvious through their actions (and reactions to some of the MC’s possible responses to the dog) how much her well-being means to them. (I also wonder if their fondness for horses is something that J and R can bond over, and on the JR route, if R might feel inclined to plan an outing for the three of them to go out riding (if the MC was onboard with it, of course).) Ah, wow, Mal’s response hit really close to home and made me incredibly emotional, especially how they are the kind of person to feel chosen by a pet (best feeling in the world), but also the uncertainty of getting emotionally attached and feeling the weight of the eventual loss (you know). I love that they will stop for strays, and I feel all soft and warm imagining them seeing a dog or cat and getting off their motorcycle to check on them and/or give them attention and scritches. Although, I also feel sad for them; it must be heart-aching to make the selfless choice to find a good home for an animal, especially when they’re starting to feel a bond developing between them. I’m really looking forward to when the MC (and we) first get to see Mal and the puppy interact with each other. If they both take to each other, I know Marcie would be more than happy to bring her around for regular visits so Mal could have time with her and get their puppy fix in (and Marcie would totally melt over the sweetness of them growing closer). Ah, I’m so sorry; I let this totally run away from me! This is what happens when two of my favorite things get combined. Thanks to LJ for their awesome question and to you for your amazing answer! <3

I absolutely love that B classifies getting a pet with a romanced MC as ‘co-parenting’; this is exactly how my mind works too. It’s really cute, and I can easily see all the B-mancing MCs who love the puppy making all these precious plans to take care of and spoil her with B once they get out of Fernweh. (Even though they aren’t romantically involved/interested in each other, before returning to Fernweh, I imagine that Becca and Marcie fostered dogs from the rescues Becca volunteers with since they rent an apartment together.) Even though S hasn’t really had the recent experience of having a pet (was their beta fish the only pet they’ve had?), we can see how caring their actions are towards animals—how they helped R with their cat, and the way they showed concern for the dog by choosing healthy, high-quality food for her when shopping for the MC’s grandfather—and it’s clear any pet that becomes part of their family will be well-loved and properly looked after. (Okay, thinking about how they carry around treats in their pockets for Marigold makes me super soft for them. <3) I know R’s cat is their bby (also, he should be the closest thing to a panther they need; I don’t suppose Ms. Verner would be pleased with an actual wild cat running amuck in her home :D), but seeing the mention of horses made me immediately think about the photo on Ms. Verner’s desk. I can’t help wondering if R has a soft spot for horses because of that connection to their father. Would going out riding and spending time with horses be something they do with some regularity to feel close to him, or would that be something of a painful reminder? [1/2]

I too can weaken that resolve by being an adorable stalker

“On the other hand, Mal (…) is the type of person to feel 'chosen' by a pet, such that a cat or dog following them or appearing around where they live starts to weaken that resolve.“ Thanks for the tips on romancing Mal, wink wink

A Ba

Omg MAL 🥰 (Fun fact -I got my now husband a pet during our 3rd date because he was a bachelor living alone and that’s just depressing. No man can say they don’t know what they’re getting with me! J would find themselves with a pet before they knew what hit them!)

A Ba

Oh Mal. As always, I am fascinated. I will not rest until I know what happened to them. How even such a light-hearted question has such a, well, bittersweet answer when it comes to them... The mind boggles. But it is incredibly endearing. I hope a pet chooses them 🥰 And S's response did make me laugh. Everyone else is like, "cats, dogs, sth cuddly..." And then there's S who wants a SEAMONSTER. Then again, Fernweh seems to have an awful lot of unidentified "wildlife" so it's not impossible, is it?? There could totally be a dire wolf out there open for adoption. Anyways it just makes S all the more endearing. Thanks so much for this answer 😊
